pull your boxers down we need to talk
"art can be so good for your soul." she agrees, reflective look on her face before the topic shifts back to the issue at hand, movies.
"i get that. you're more free with your body- and that's so powerful too." being liberated from society's expectations is a big thing. one way or another. "but i get her pickiness. i don't want to give anyone too much of myself. things i can't take back." and men especially can expect so much so fast. she's not in the habit of giving just to give.
"i can understand and respect it, but eh, shoes are more of a commitment, no?" rae smirked. what she didn't want to say was that she understood a little more than clementine even knew. she didn't want to spill her guts, but she found herself slipping. clementine was so open with her, after all. rae sighed, not approaching the counter yet. "i did...a lot of things when i was a teenage girl that i wish i hadn't, and it messed with me, so...i sort of get that."
Abilene looked up from her bible study notebook the moment she heard Raelynn's voice. Her gaze lingered for a second too long, weighing the request as though it required deliberation. Truthfully, it did. Raelynn had a way of existing that Abilene had never quite understood. They shared a uniform and not much else. "It's a free country, isn't it?" Abilene replied, lifting one shoulder into a shrug. She gestured vaguely toward the empty chair before returning her attention to the page in front of her, though it was abundantly clear she wasn't reading anymore.
"I'll admit, I didn't expect you to ask." Brown eyes finally met Raelynn's. "You don't exactly strike me as someone who's particularly interested in my company." A beat. "Or my opinions." Abilene decided then to close her book completely. No point in pretending.
"So, I'm assuming you didn't come over here because you've developed a sudden appreciation for modesty, Bible studies, or waiting until marriage." Abilene quirked a brow. "What do you want, Raelynn?"
raelynn shrugged, "look, at the end of the day, you're still my teammate, and i don't like how we left things," she said matter of factly, sitting across from her. "i appreciate that you have convictions and that you are strong in your faith. i genuinely wish that i had faith to carry me through stuff. i don't, and i don't think i can change that. i also didn't wait til marriage, and i can't change that either - i don't think i want to change that, anyway." maybe she would want to change the circumstances, but waiting til marriage still seemed like a nightmare." she sighed. "i think we live very different lives, but i also don't think that means we shouldn't be friends, or at least try to work on being teammates."
the blonde wasn't usually so camera shy. in fact, she loved attention. but it was different during media week. when everything was recorded and you had no control over how people presented you. seriously, she'd watched enough reality shows over the years to know how important your edit was. but with how intense coach steele had been lately, goldie knee she was going to be paying close attention to how goldie represented the cheerios. "i'll definitely be hidin' behind you." she muttered, thankful for how much shorter she was compared to raelynn. "wait, why did you strip on the basketball court?" she wasn't judging, just curious what the story behind that was.
"i'll protect you, princess," rae said with a grin, shielding her with her body jokingly, "but no, seriously, if you get overwhelmed, i can distract them from you." rae was used to pulling focus, anyway. "oh, the stripping - so when i was a senior in high school, me and my cheer girls protested our new, longer skirts by stripping down our uniforms during our dance. it didn't really accomplish much, except i lost my scholarship to temple. note to self: nudity is not always the answer, even though you'd like it to be."
who: josie & raelynn @wtfraelynn where: video star
"can you do me a favor? it won't take super long, i promise." josie sets her wristlet wallet down on top of the dance dance revolution machine, numb to the clattering that comes along with the action -- so used to hearing the numerous keychains smacking together that it doesn't phase her at this point. "i'm trying to beat my high score, and i want to film myself to see what i'm doing wrong, but my phone keeps falling down. could you do it for me? i'll buy you nachos after."
rae smiles at this chaotic, petite girl. she's cute, and she's not sure she's ever talked to her before, but suddenly she'd follow her to the ends of the earth. "hey, yeah of course. how about we share the nachos?" she offers, "and let's throw in slurpees, too. i like the blue ones," she says, taking her phone. "i'm raelynn - well, rae - what's your name?"
mason glanced over at the sound of his name, his attention shifting from whatever he'd been half-heartedly watching on the other side of the bar to the familiar face approaching him. "rae." he greeted, pushing himself off the bar enough to turn toward her. he gave her a once-over, if nothing more than for a visual update since the last time he’d seen her, before taking another sip of his drink. "i'm gonna go with the extremely compelling answer of 'i wanted a drink.'" his eyes flicked back to her, a sip of his drink sliding down his throat easy. "what about you?"
"wow, you're right, that is so compelling," rae says with a little laugh, bringing her old fashioned to her lips. "i think you could sell that story to the news, maybe sell the movie rights," she nods. "well, usually when someone has a drink all by themselves, they have something on their mind. not me, i'm just enjoying the atmosphere - but how about you?"
who doesn't love a good old fashioned girls night? clementine wasn't going to say no after what's been going on lately. and raelynn no longer even knows the half of it. cheerios and the musical both seem to be a place full of mess and potential threat.
maybe it's best to just get her mind off it all. plus- being in public is a great way to protect yourself.
"let's do it- it's so sad everything she's been through... she was so talented." it's a shame people had to ruin her life. "i hope she's finding joy again." she finds herself musing aloud.
but rae doesn't need to hear the negative thoughts right now. "i can always go for a clueless moment- i feel very deeply connected to a girl who doesn't realize who she wants even if she feels so strongly in other areas in her life."
rae nodded, "god, all i want is for her to be happy, but last i heard, she's been making art and having art shows, so that's good, i hope she's healing, as much as any of us girls can truly be healed." she pulls the DVD from the shelf, and then clueless as clementine speaks. "i relate to cher but, i also don't? i love the way she dresses and i love how much she loves her girlfriends, because same...but being as picky about sex as you are about shoes? nope, not me at all."

"listen, you've had a rough couple of days so i'm paying for lunch, i don't wanna hear it," rae said, wrapping an arm around savannah's shoulder as they walked into the diner. "plus, i get an employee discount," she did not, in fact, get an employee discount, as she did not work there, but no one needed to know that. as far as anyone knew, she worked the graveyard shift at this diner a few nights a week.
they sat down at rae's favorite table and perused the menu, ordered drinks - a cherry coke for rae, and then rae weighed what she would say next. "is your grandma faring well without you being home?" she asked.

where: trouty mouth
rae was done her shift at work, but she would be damned if she ate at that place. she'd seen how clean the kitchen areas were. no thank you. she decided, instead, to hit up trouty mouth and maybe get a drink and probably make a bad decision in the back of someone's car.
she was just ordering her drink when she saw a distinct possibility leaning up against the bar, "oh, mason tucker! hey doll, what brings you out here tonight?"

rae was really only at fabray's to get a picture of her eating a pink cupcake to send to some weirdo on onlyfans. she didn't expect to see abilene, although maybe she should've expected it, granted that this place was like catnip for cheerios.
things between rae and abilene had been tense, to say the least. they didn't seem to have anything in common except cheer, and that had been enough for rae in the past. things with the team were rocky right now, though. she felt bad about the things she said, and whether or not abilene felt bad about what she said, she felt that it might be worth it to at least come to some understanding.
"hey, abilene...can i sit here?" she said, gesturing to the seat across from her.

raelynn and clementine were both feeling extremely disenfranchised with how, to put it mildly, heinous the group chat had gotten. rae knew she wasn't innocent, that she'd let it get to her when she shouldn't, but clementine didn't deserve the bullshit that had been spewed at her. she was a damn good person and a damn talented dancer, and she was going to be there for her. so tonight, the two decided that they'd rent a DVD like it was the year 2003 and have a girls' night.
"what do you think of what a girl wants? paired maybe with...she's the man? amanda bynes double feature?" rae asked her with a smile. "let me know what you think. what does your early 2000s heart desire?"
who. goldie & raelynn @wtfraelynn where. before cheerios practice
goldie sat next to her fellow cheerio in a deep stretch, looking up to see numerous news teams and sports journalists watching them like a hawk. she always liked media week in the past. loved being the center of attention and getting to talk in front of a camera, or have a feature in a magazine article... but now it felt different. being apart of glee and the thread of being kicked of the team looming overhead meant goldie needed to be ON during this week. she couldn't give coach steele any opportunity to doubt her skill and commitment to the cheerios.
after all, her ability to stay at saint rivera depended on it. "i feel like we're in a fishtank. ya know, like in nemo?" she told raelynn, looking over at the brunette as she came out of the stretch and moved into another. "like they're all watchin' to see what we do next. it's makin' me nervous."
raelynn nodded in agreement, "it feels exactly like in nemo, at least the first few days, but then it's not so bad, i sort of start to forget they're there." rae shrugged, "i mean, you're talking to the girl who stripped on the basketball court of her high school. eyes on me isn't really new. let me know if you need to hide behind me, queen. i'll be your knight."

where: les affamés.
raelynn didn't work at les affames. she told everyone she did, which was stupid. she should've pretended that she worked out of town. however, the lie was too big now. every now and then, though. she would make sure she was seen there after her real job with a bag that could be holding her server uniform (instead of her real uniform), eating a meal that actually was her first meal since getting off shift! PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY, that is what it was all about.
she was just getting her chicken cesar salad when she noticed georgia come in. she tried to look tired, which wasn't hard, because after dancing for a bunch of pervs for hours with barely any time for a drink break, she was exhausted. she halfway didn't even want to engage with georgia - not personal, she wasn't sure if she wanted to talk to anyone right now.
still, after the hell that had been raised in the group chat, she felt like she should wave a flag of surrender, or at least extend an olive branch. it couldn't be easy for georgia to have been away so long, and rae had missed her. contrary to what some might have been thinking, she did care for most of her teammates, even the ones who drove her crazy.
rae walked up to georgia, "hey, are you meeting someone? you can come sit with me, if you want. i'm having a late, late dinner."
