Water Lilies, 19th Century. Detail.
An old and cherished excerpt from another time and place
My dear lover surprised me many hours earlier than I had expected to see him yesterday afternoon. I understood exactly the kind of personal sacrifice he made simply to be there for me at that particular time, and as I reached out and held him, I told him I appreciated not only his being, but his doing more than he could ever know. And in that moment I saw how deeply content he was and realised, of course he already knew.
It was only a few weeks ago that our unwavering love for each other had been wildly swept under a blanket of dense, suffocating pressure; a dark, malevolant force of his past rose up like a cobra to strike venom into our passionate hearts. So for him to come find me when he did was significant in the decisiveness and devoted love of this somewhat simple and ordinary act, and for the outcome of the experience we shared together yesterday, my gratitude knows no bounds.
We lay entwined on the couch as the sun filtered in through the open window and past the climbing plants, warming our mind, body, spirit, as we spilled our secrets of the day we each just had. We slowly and teasingly undressed each other, touching and admiring and adoring each other. I climbed upon his face whilst he made himself cum, and I clapped my hands and beamed with joy at the excitement of having witnessed the intimacy of his self-pleasure. We then took ourselves to the beach to worship the dance of the ocean, the sand and the sun, to cleanse ourselves of the toxic stress that had been plaguing us in previous weeks. We were love, we were death, and we were reborn again.
The waters were crowded like we had never seen before; it seemed it was a perfect day for everyone involved. We swam past the waves, past the holiday people until it was just us and the alluring blue-green of the ocean, just us and the soft peach of the horizon. We stayed out there forever and slipped under the gentle waves from sheer exhaustion. We took a peaceful cat nap in the shade of a cave, only ever waking to say, I love you. I love you too. We had our salty picnic dinner on a grassy hill overlooking the vast, deep blue.. and I felt mother nature move freely through my scared web of veins. Breathe in and breathe out. I honour this moment. Thank you, my love, for a perfect afternoon.
