He really got his revenge by biting me (pathetically) and then made an effort to prove his worth. I think we’re basically best friends now

are there any apps like merlin but for frog calls that you would trust?

I don't know of any apps that can auto-identify frog calls, no. Merlin has some frogs in it, but not enough. I think you have to do the hard work yourself, which means going to xeno-canto.org, looking up the area you are in, and comparing calls you hear to ones recorded nearby.

Scanning out-of-date science books is going to make your AI worse. Scanning out-of-date geography books is outright stupidity. Plate tectonics wasn't even accepted science until 1967. Two years before we landed on the moon.

Also also: language evolves. Do you really want your LLM digesting text written in a style nobody writes or speaks anymore? Try reading a newspaper from the 1970s and you'll occasionally stumble over phrasing. Now try the 1930s. And that's less than a century ago.
