end of summer.
Just in case any of you have missed the pictures of the beautiful sunflowers I've been posting for a week now...
Really talented Austin musician. I dig this guy's music. Plus, I'm pretty convinced we're related...
"So leave the ways that are making you be
What you really don't want to be..."
Nick Drake would have been 64 yesterday. Another great one, gone before his time.
Love the Thunder. Love OKC artists. Love OKC.
I'm a big Record Store Day fan. My husband and I have a decent collection of vinyls that we've gathered from my parents, garage sales and various record stores across the country. Sure, digital music is easier, but there's something about spinning that black circle.
Mehendi Rachi is a song from the album, Dharohar Project, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons that was released on Record Store Day 2011. Admittedly, the first time I listened to the album, I was confused. I love Mumford & Sons, but this was nothing like I had expected. I put it away and didn't listen to it again until Record Store Day this year. And this time, I haven't stopped listening.
the only reason to go anywhere, do anything, bother being alive at all, is to bring pleasure to those who are dear.

autumn
teach us how short our time is; let us know it in the depth of our soul...
show us how precious each day is; teach us to be fully here.
and let the work of our hands prosper, for our little while. [ps. 98 -- stephen mitchell]
oh, how i love this time of year. oklahoma doesn't always get great autumns. sometimes it's far too windy or much too wet, and sometimes the weather seems to switch from summer heat to winter cold in a matter of a week. but this autumn has been beautiful. the leaves on the trees are spectacular colors, the weather has cooled just enough.
the coming of autumn reminds me to live. it reminds me that things change, and that things that are here one day may not be here the next. so it reminds me to love. and things like football parties and friends gathering on the patio and holidays with family give me the perfect opportunity to do so.
I am a human being. Nothing human can be alien to me.

One of my favorite things about Oklahoma....
This song has the same name as my blog. AND it's a really good song. AND one of my all-time favorite bands, Over the Rhine, recorded it on their new "The Long Surrender" album. This isn't the Over the Rhine version though. This is the original Kim Taylor version. Love it.
under the steps...
you
today's your birthday. you would have been 34.
if you were still here.
you've been gone a few years now, but few days pass that i don't think of you at least once.
i wonder about what you'd be doing, where you'd be visiting, what you'd be seeing.
you showed me how important it was to live well. to look outside the boxes we so often find ourselves confined to.
you told me, "i hope as time passes, we don't stop opening boxes. life would be too dull."
i try to remember that. i try to remember to live life as openly as you did. i try to remember that people are more important than anything else. i try to make other people as happy to be alive as you made me.
thanks again for everything.
here's to you, my friend.
Once conform, once do what other people do because they do it, and a lethargy steals over all the finer nerves and faculties of the soul.
Virginia Woolf, "Montaigne"
It’s a patio night.
My god, how I wish it would rain.
But the cumulus clouds build just to our east,
seemingly just to spite me.
