People have asked for a den tutorial, so here you are!
This is what I'm starting with, as you can see quite messy. Messy nest = Bad, so let's reorganize.
First, strip your bed down to basics. I like to use a delicate technique known as 'throw everything haphazardly off of the bed'. Then take your biggest blanket and lay it over the sheet.
Next, take all your pillows, blankets, and other soft materials and lay it out in a circle, leaving a hollow spot in the center. Body pillows are really nice, but just use what you have.
Optional, but I like to make a mini nest inside the big nest for my egg, and the dragon plushies I have. It makes it feel like a community nest rather than just mine.
Next, get all the softest blankets you have and lay them around on top of the walls of the nest. There's no way to really explain this, most of nest making is instinctive for me. Just fiddle with it until it feels right, let your creature brain take over. It knows what to do.
This kind of requires a bunk bed, but I hang blankets around my bed to simulate walls. I've done this since I was a kid, it just always made me feel more secure. Make sure you have good ventilation; I set up a small box fan in the corner by my head so I don't overheat.
Remember, this is my personal method, what works for my kintype may not work for yours. For some this may be too much, others too little. See this more as an invitation to explore nest building, and a starting point. I hope this helped, and the most important thing to remember is this:
Listen to your kintype. At the end of the day, nests are largely instinctive. It may look strange to humans, but they aren't made for them. Your instincts will guide you, and have fun!
