Welp

Looks like everyone’s busy with their lives outside of deviant, and I’m not any different. 6 weeks into the semester and I’ve got my hands tied in ways I couldn’t imagine. I think this isn’t the best time to commit to an rp, no matter how lovely it is.

And I mean it when I say it’s lovely. It has a beautiful concept and everyone I’ve met here has been nothing short of wonderful. I’ll think of this place often, and if I find myself with more time I might rejoin later on.

Thank you, everyone, for being such a supportive and endearing community that encourages me to be a better writer. You are all wonderful <3

The riots are turning the once peaceful city square into a destination of chaos. I lack understanding for this situation, there’s just too much violence. Why were the humans responding in violence? There must be a better way. However, I’m thankful I don’t have my LED. I might be seriously affected if people saw-

Wait, where am I? Why are there so many androids standing around me? I was alone and away from the chaos a moment ago, but now it seems I am in the thick of it. I hear so much screaming. About 4 meters in front of me stands a policeman, armed with a gun and shield. His gun is pointed directly at me, but he doesn’t look happy about it. I close my eyes and I hear his gun fire.

Now I’m alone again, standing away from the riots like before. What did I see this time? Whose memory was I peering into? That certainly couldn’t be a memory of mine, but why did I see it?

That policeman. He must know something. I must find him.

I’ve updated Lyra’s relations and timeline pages to reflect the new encounters and interactions she’s had. Lyra’s relationship with Haneul has moved from neutral to friendly. (The relations page changes depending on the information Lyra discovers about each person~!)

Additionally, I’m working on a self-para related to the event. I’ll also be working on my reply for Kassian ~

His head was pounding. When it comes to a fight, there is no honor, no code. All that matters is the win and letting go of all frustrations kept locked away behind a facade. As was the case for this hostile stranger in front of him. Jinwoo brought forward his arms as a shield, bracing for another strike. It never came. His eyes focused towards his savior from the brutal attack, and he couldn’t help but ask, ❝Why help me?❞

Lyra was heading towards a grocery store a slight distance away from the city square when she heard the riots. Her audio processors quickly became overloaded with the sounds of agonized screaming and enraged roaring. She was about to enter the store to reduce the noise when she heard a sole cry for help above the muffled chaos. “Please, I am not your enemy!” the distressed voice screamed.

She quickly looked around to find the location of the voice, and that’s when she saw it. On the ground lay an android, the familiar blue thirium dripping around his mouth, the LED on his temple flashing red. Before him was a human, mercilessly throwing blow after blow upon the poor android who didn’t even attempt to retaliate. He was innocent. How could a human behave so aggressively towards an innocent being?

[HELP HIM]

The directive couldn’t be any clearer. Lyra moved towards the aggressor from behind, grabbing the nearest object she could find, and swiftly swung it at their head. The human fell immediately, the force of the hit knocking them out. She blinked rapidly as she tried to re-stabilize herself. She was always meant to help humans, not hurt them. But there was nothing human about the aggressor’s behavior.

Lyra then hoisted the wounded android up, slinging one of his arms around her shoulder as she guided both of them to a secluded and safer alley. He weakly asked a question, which she only replied after gently setting him down behind a large garbage can. “I’m one of you and I couldn’t watch you die,” she spoke in a hushed voice. “Are any of your biocomponents damaged?”

He scratched his cheek embarrassedly. “As for reality, you have a point there. Everything we see as a norm is societal. Kind of a dumb question for me to ask, huh? I agree, though, it’s a precarious way to look at things. Majority doesn’t mean objectivity and people often forget that. It’s a problem humanity has never quite gotten rid of. I… wonder if things would be easier for an android? Then again, input will always come from subjective sources, no? I mean.” He cleared his voice. “I’m sorry. I probably should talk to an android or an engineer about that,” Haneul apologized. “AI is a very fascinating topic I’m afraid I’m not very well-versed in.”

At the mention of the plaque next to the painting, Lyra’s eyes darted over to it and she let out a sheepish laugh. The android was so engrossed in conversation that she failed to notice it entirely. That didn’t change her mind about the man before her, however, as he continued to prove how insightful he was with his following commentary.

“Oh, sure! That sounds wonderful,” Lyra smiled at the other’s invitation, happy to have the opportunity to get to know him. The pair continued talking as they headed towards the nearby café. "... here this person is, making art of the dark place they’ve been at.... it’s proof that there is still hope.” The words he spoke resonated with her as she learned how human creativity is so powerfully driven by emotion and experiences. “Sometimes, expressing your emotions is the easiest and most effective way to deal with tough situations. It’s a relief that the artist found their outlet to do so,” she mused.

The two sat at a table by a window as the male brought up the subject of androids and artificial intelligence. It seemed like this human was definitely not hostile about androids, in fact he seemed just as fascinated with androids as Lyra was with humans. “Hmm. Androids were all created with a specific set of directions - to follow the orders of their owners. So I suppose their input is indeed subjective. I don’t really know either,” she commented.

“By the way, I just realized we’ve been talking for a bit but I don’t even know your name!” the android exclaimed with a little laugh. She held her hand out to the male. “I’m Lyra, and you are?”

“I… sometimes, I feel like I’m not my own. Do you know what that feels like? It’s like I’m peering into the memories of someone else, yet how is that possible? The whole thing was becoming too much to bare in just a short amount of time, with Soojung not having any idea of their behavior or how they even worked. She found herself rubbing the ring on her finger, belonging to her late mother ━ it had become a subconscious habit of hers whenever she felt under pressure or stress. Soojung contemplated whether she was indeed ready to have an Android following her around her home, pointing out her flaws, and uncovering her past without any emotion. She felt lost.

Walk tall, my sweet daughter. Her mother’s words echoing in her mind making her repress any wavering thoughts. ❝Are you ready for your new life to begin with me, Lyra? I must warn you though, my place isn’t nearly as classy as that case of yours.❞ She let out a breathy laugh with the small jest.』

“Soojung. That’s a lovely name!” Lyra enthused. From what she could tell, Soojung seemed unsure about how to talk to her - this meant Lyra was probably her first ever android. Humans who weren’t used to her kind would often be nervous and apprehensive when first encountering one, and this human seemed to be no exception. She noticed Soojung rub a ring on her finger and made a mental note to check whenever she does it. It could be a nervous habit she has. “I’m more than ready to begin a new life with you. Don’t worry, I’m sure anything is better than that cramped up case!” the android responded to her joke with a grin.

And so, it was settled. Lyra was about to experience life with an owner, and fulfill the mission she was made for. The directive in her programming made the mission clear : befriend, earn the trust of, and help this woman. Soojung is her top priority. The android was quick to act on the directive, as if she was eager to do her job. Are androids able to be eager about something, though? Isn’t eagerness an emotion?

“So, tell me stuff about yourself!” Lyra spoke as the two headed back to Soojung’s house. “Like, what do you do? How old are you? What are your hobbies? What’s your most favourite food?” She paused for a moment, noting the slightly flustered look on the other’s face. “Was that too many questions at once? Sorry, I’m just very excited to learn things about you.” Lyra smiled sheepishly.

It is the 725th day since my activation. I face the same scene once again: humans are ambling around the store, their features illuminated by the white fluorescent lights from above. They gaze into the different cases, each one containing an android like myself. But today, a woman approaches me and makes a purchase. I can now do what I am made to do.

Suddenly, I can’t see my surroundings. I’m definitely not in the store, but I don’t know where I am. Before me stands a man who is tall and thin, wearing an expression of utter indifference on his face. But then the man looks at me, and I sense intense sorrow behind his eyes.

The next moment, I am back in the store. The woman who just purchased me is standing there, looking at me with a slight uncertainty. Why did I see a man just now? I’d better do a system check.

[RUN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS]

Diagnosis complete: All systems operational.

Perhaps I’m just a little defective from being in a case for 2 years.
