As expected, Trespasser and mods do not play happily together. The Word of Mod can only do limited testing at the moment, but so far trying to use all ‘normal’ mods makes the game freeze when trying to start the DLC story, but minimal mods *do* work. This indicates that only certain kinds of mods cause the issue. The Word of mod will do some more testing and update this post. Under a cut, since the information will change as testing is performed. This post will remain spoiler-free. Keep in mind that this is ONLY for starting the DLC itself! There are already reports that even when mods don’t break, they don’t always show up (like hair mods, for PC and Companion both). Also, apparently things like going to Inventory, transitioning maps, visiting shops, and cutscenes (which have been known to cause problems before in DLC) are being reported as crashing. So this list is only to eliminate the WORST offenders. Further offenders will (hopefully) be weeded out with time, just as with the Descent DLC mod. First recommendation is: If you just want to play the DLC without worrying about mods, then play vanilla. At this point we can’t confirm any mod as working all the way through the DLC. Confirmed Incompatible: Companion mods (don’t cause a crash, but not showing in cutscenes either) Female Dalish Keeper Robe Retesture from Dalish Armoury caused a crash when opening the Equipment menu. (thanks for the heads up, fairylaced!) Formal Attire mods seem to be causing freezing, particularly at the beginning - this includes the Invisible Formal Attire mod, as well Hair mods in general are hit and miss as to whether they show up, and it changes between race and gender. And even then, when a hair mod does NOT work in Halamshiral (ie, ‘cutscene-type’ setting), it DOES work while working through combat scenarios (Eluvian network, Deep Roads, &c). When a hair mod doesn’t work, NO mod for that base style will work. ‘Tis quite frustrating. Realistic/Smooth Hair Textures causes freezing of Character screens (inventory, abilities, &c) - doesn’t seem to cause freezes in transitions, though. Still investigating. DE-SHINE MODS seem to cause the freezing, both at transitions points (changing maps) and with stores/inventory/&c. Advise not using those for now with the DLC - NOTE: the lovely arideya has made Trespasser-compatible versions of all their de-shined mods. Check out this post for details! Current Conclusion: IN GENERAL, most mods seem to work as they did in Descent: mostly working within areas, but causing problems with certain cutscenes and transitions (either from place to place, or between different menus). So proceed with caution, and save often. You never know when a mod will cause an issue. Over time, something more definitive will be drawn up, but for now, this seems to be the way of it. Also, note that many mods can be simply disabled for a Trespasser run (such as ‘yes we know about Mythal’ and Transparent Starting Gear, or anything to do with the War Table and earlier events in the game). It’s recommended to disable mods you don’t use while playing a DLC to minimize crashing and freezing. Good luck!
