i'm personally less interested in the concept of "doomed love" meaning "being in love before the death of one or both partners" — because love continues after death and your love isn't doomed if one of you dies because i mean we're all going to die and our love doesn't have to go with it... it shouldn't at least

and i think doomed love is more tragic (for me) when the love itself is doomed. When love was so warm to have with someone until something happens, turns that love from something sweet and comforting to something painful or sour or destructive. doomed love meaning love that will die and then leave you with its ghost. its memory between the two of you, making you wonder if it is still love, if its still alive. love that was always doomed to fall apart no matter how nice it used to be. the feeling of being left with the corpse of love and dragging it along with someone, wondering and wondering if its dead, refusing to let go

Something about the whole "Eming is born of Hua Cheng's desire to live and Rouye is born of Xie Lian's desire to die," and then how Xie Lian wears funeral colours and Hua Cheng wears wedding colours. God oriented towards death and stillness and self-denial. Ghost oriented towards life and hope and happiness.
