âWeâll rip her out root and stemâ - Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones 8x04
âAll Daenerys wanted back was the big house with the red door, the lemon tree outside her window, the childhood she had never known.â âšâ George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
âShe looks up. The roof is missing and snow falls from the sky. [âŠ] At the far end of the room, the Iron Throne waits for her, dusted with snow. Her dream made manifest.â â HBO Script, Game of Thrones

List of reasons why Jon and Dany will survive
I used to have these on notes on my phone to give me reassurance whenever I worried about their survival. They are super summarized as Iâm linking them to their respective sources. (I actually just started an Instagram account about their survival!). Requested by: @sylviebell ! <3 Here you go, dear!Â
The final version of âTruthâ and its convergence with the GOT main theme, which Jordi Maquiavello analyzed so well in this video.
The similarities with the War of the Roses.
If they die, the ending would be straight up tragic, not âas bittersweet as happyâ as Martin says.
Martinâs allegations that the tone will be similar to the one from LOTR.
The symbology in their scenes leads to their fate being tied together. Hence, if one lives, the other one must live as well.
Their âtogetherâ mindset also hints that their fates are tied.
Also GRRM himself said that, after all, the story is all about them both (then, why would only one survive?)
Their plots about learning to rule would be useless if they die. They havenât been trained to only be saviors of humanity, but rulers as well.
Also, they have to teach their child everything theyâve learned about ruling and politics in order to assure there will be peace for future generations.
Their fervent wish for a family and a home: what would be the point of killing off their lover yet again? Why would only one of them get to raise their child and not the other?
Jonâs prophetic dreams about feasts (cheers @tomakeitbeautifultolive !).
Emilia and Kit have been seen in Belfast during the filming of episode six (the finale).
The ridiculous amount of parallels (would all of them be there for them to just fall in love and die?)
Martin has made clear how they share the same values and complement each other perfectly. What would be the point to mold them all these years to be perfect for one another, if itâs not for them to live/rule together?
It seems like ASOIAF is about light after dark, about The title of the last book, âA Dream of Springâ, hints that ASOIAF is about light after dark.Â
If they die, the message of the story would be pure nihilism.
If they die, the ending will be the repetition of a scenario thatâs happened a thousand times: an important character dying. Wow. Shocking.
âSo you donât want anything to surprise you for surpriseâs sake. You want everything to feel earned and to look back and go âokay, yeah, I could see how they were building to that.â And from that I know from the final season, it does that.â James Hibberd, EWâs Game of Thrones Weekly podcast.
Feel free to add some if you have more ideas! Iâll keep on editing this post as well!
Hereâs a great video that argues against the theory that the House of the Undying vision in the show means Dany will die and/or never become queen - giving an alternative take. (The title of the actual video is sarcastic btw!)
And in this video, the last one Javi and Friki have uploaded (two weeks ago, to be exact: 15/feb/19), they were asked what the probabilities were for Jon and Danyâs survival. Without hesitation, they both answered 100%. :)
TRANSCRIPT OF FRIKI AND JAVIâS ANSWER (for @smoldany ) [POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]:
Question: âWhat are the possibilities of Jon and Daenerys surviving?â
Javi: 100%, I think we know it.
Friki: I think theyâre still together, I think theyâll have a daughter and a son. I think theyâre not in Tyrionâs trial because they will be âcalm/quietâ in Dragonstone. Dany will be giving birth. There will be a âconstellationâ, a bunch of events. I donât think they will be dead.
Javi: I am sure. I must say, after season seven, I was convinced Dany would die, and I still think her death would make sense with her characterâs arch.
Friki: Remember weâve been told she has a near-death experience and that is connected to her vision in house of the undying.
Javi: I used to think it made sense for her to die, sacrificing herself, fighting against the others. But I also think it makes sense for her to survive, because sheâs been learning to rule, she knows how to rule, and the book Fire and Blood shows us that every time a Targaryen woman wanted to rule, her power was taken away from her. [âŠ] How cool would it be for the saga to end with a Targaryen Queen ruling Westeros? Yes, with Jon Snow by her side, but nevertheless, a Targaryen Queen.
Friki: You know, I think that wonât happen. I think the âbreak the wheelâ phrase was there for a reason, which is a Regent Council.
Anyway, they seem super confident in the video about their survival (although not about their status as monarchs). No hesitations or anything about it. I donât think theyâd be this confident if those were speculations only, they must have strong reasons behind!
Since weâre adding reasons, Iâll add mine as well. Though to be honest, I donât really think a lot about Jon surviving, only about Dany. But I think that if one survives, the other survives as well.
For Jon, he has a lot of foreshadowing for being king in the books. One could argue that this foreshadowing is just to give hints to his true parentage, but I donât think so. Thereâs a meta about this here.
Itâs not as easy to find foreshadowing for Dany as queen, because she already is a queen, so her being referred to as queen doesnât really say anything. But Dany is doing many of the things Jon is doing (mentioned in the meta above), their training to be rulers has been similar. Plus, I always felt like this quote was foreshadowing for Dany as queen of Westeros:
Her brother smiled. âGood.â He touched her hair, almost with affection. âWhen they write the history of my reign, sweet sister, they will say that it began tonight.â - Daenerys I AGOT
I always interpreted it this way: Viserys is thinking that people will write about him as king of Westeros. But it will be about Danyâs reign that people will write about, her reign that began that night.
I also donât think Danyâs character arc is about sacrificing herself. She has been selfless from the very beginning of the story, so to me, deciding that she has to sacrifice herself in the end is not character development, itâs stagnant, because Dany always was self sacrificial. I think she has learned about ruling, thatâs her character development. Even her choice at the end of ADWD, of choosing war and fire and blood, that people use to argue that Dany could never be a peacetime queen, is in my opinion simply part of her character development to have a more mature view of peace and war and be a better ruler, not a sign that Dany can never rule in times of peace.
I also wrote why I believe Dany will survive in different posts:
This one talks about how Dany will bring social change to Westeros, and how i think she and Jon are the only ones that could do that.
This one and this one talk about the positive interviews about the showâs ending.
These are my observations about the trailer and why the trailer makes me think Dany will survive. Besides, Dany is very likely pregnant. I think there must be a reason for all the baby talk in season 7, and if Dany will be pregnant, then she canât die before boatbaby is born. But Dany is not showing in the trailer. This means that not a lot of time has passed in the season, and that Dany will only give birth later in the season. If sheâll only give birth later, then she canât die in a battle before this. And I donât think Dany dies in childbirth. So to me, it looks like Dany will survive to have her baby in the end.
Also, in GRRMâs original outline, Dany and Jon survived. Many things in the outline changed, of course, but many stayed the same. GRRM was asked if he ever changed the ending of the books, and has stated several times that he didnât change the ending (though Iâm really lazy to look for the interviews, but I did watch interviews with him saying that), so itâs a strong possibility that Dany and Jon will survive.
Though, of course, itâs still unclear how similar the books and the show will be. He said in a recent interview that there will be differences (and in other interviews as well). But he did tell D&D the ending, and in a recent interview, he did say that some of the things in season 8 are based on what he planned and that he got emotional about it 20 years ago. So Iâm expecting that, while there will certainly be many differences, the major plot points will be the same. So because I expect Dany and Jon to live in the books, I also expect her to live in the show.
Thank you for your additions, guys! @rainhadaenerys i absolutely love your interpretation of Viserys quote! I had never thought about it that way and it makes perfect sense!
Still updating this!
Iain Glen and Natalie Emmanuel, who are huge Dany fans, are happy with the ending.
THIS NEW INTERVIEW where Emilia states that Jon and Danyâs ending is epic.
âSheâs going to have done all this work only to die so that we can watch a man get the credit? The throne?â Excellent mini meta by @early-sunsetsâ
Another bunch of good reasons for Danyâs survival by @rainhadaenerys <3
âJon, did you ever wonder why the men of the Nightâs Watch take no wives and father no children?â Maester Aemon asked. [âŠ] âSo they will not love,â the old man answered [âŠ] That did not sound right to Jon.Â
This seems to hint that, especially for Jon and Dany, duty wonât win over love this time.
People have woken up today with panic and paranoia about Dany dying, so let me add a few more reasons to calm yo titsss:
Ramin has confirmed Jennyâs Song is an analogy to Jon and Dany:
Many people fear that this means that Jonerys will have a similar final fate to the Jenny/Duncanâs. BUT whatâs important about this interview is that Ramin says that heâs comparing the âconflictâ (love vs. duty) and âTHEIR DECISION TO COMEâ (not their fates)âŠdoes this mean they will choose love over power? That they could go away to live by the waterfalls like they hinted in 8x01?
(For the ones who donât know: Duncan Targaryen (a targ with dark hair)Â quit his duty to the Throne to be with his gf Jenny.)
THE NEW OMAZE VIDEO:Â Emilia explains that you can donate to participate in a raffle to watch with her the LAST EPISODE (8x06), and she says: âIt will be the last time youâll get to see this muggins *points to herself* with the dragons!â So, apparently, she just confirmed she and her dragons survive to episode 8x06. Now, would Emilia want to watch an episode with her fans if she dies in it? I mean, itâs quite a horrible thing to watch with others lmao. (credits to @thebronzefury for noticing this)
Michele Clapton (Costume designer) liked this comment like a year ago about Danyâs wedding and coronation dress:
(credits to @got-addict for that last screenshot)
I refuse to get in the Dany pessimism boat that so many people are in right now. Those who are with me can keep on helping me out with the listÂ
The guy who leaked ep 3 and âleakedâ that jonerys would have a tragic ending backtracked and said that it was only speculation of his own.
In the video where they prank Kit, Emilia is with him in KL.
Frikidoctor has said YESTERDAY in his live video with Acevedisimos (01/may/2019) that he STILL BELIEVES IN JON/DANYâS SURVIVAL (hasnât specified any leaks, only that he believes so, but still bruh)Â (âżâ âżâ )
All my life, Iâve known one goal: the Iron Throne. Until I met Jon.
