I saw someone in the ATLA subreddit make the observation that Aang's focus was taken away in favor of Zuko's in Book 3.

And I just... They're so close to getting it. They're on the very edge of realizing how underdeveloped Aang as a character actually is and how incomplete his arc was. But the fandom babies and favors him so much that actually making that observation in the main parts of the fandom will never actually be conceptualized, and if it is it will never be accepted.

That's why the fault is being put onto Zuko in this particular instance. They can't admit to Aang's failings as a character so they're looking for a scapegoat to blame instead.

The actual truth is that Bryke disrupted Aang's Book 2 arc because of their own biases towards him. That's why every iteration of Aang after the original has been increasingly worse. They aren't doing what's best for his character, they're doing what's best for their own wish fulfillment

You know what's really shitty about the art style for that new Avatar movie though. Its not JUST that they made everyone's ethnic noses skinny, upturned, & pointy, but that they can't even use the excuse of "it's just the art style", because we have THIS character who was allowed to have a wide nose in the same movie

#it's so racist but what did i expect when lauren montgomery directed this #bryke even invented a fake script that superficially looks like chinese

Is the most 'Here Damn!' moment of this movie since it's not explored and everything revolves around Aa//ng

#it's so obvious they are aware of the criticism regarding katara's character and this was their lazy attempt to address that #at least it's better than their original plan where she is heavily pregnant and never mentioned to have any career #she gets killed by an anti colonial earthbender that her manchild husband trusts over her #and she is forced to leave the action and become a damsel in distress when she needs to give birth near the end of the movie #(katara being pro-colonization toward republic city and a settler were still kept though)#(her dying and reviving were also kept but now it doesn't look as bad because she isn't pregnant)
