i haven't posted anything here omg kinda nervous... but here's zutara in traditional javanese wedding attire šš»āāļø commissioned this from my friend she's amazing šāļø
some facts about the attire! āŗļøš
The headwear these babies are wearing are called Blangkon and Cunduk Mentul, Blangkon is a traditional headwear worn by men usually in Central Javanese and Yogyakarta (especially the one Zuko is wearing!) The word Blangkon itself is said to came from the word 'blanco' referring to the blank cloth used to make the headwear, tho there are soo many theories about the origin of both the headwear and the name itself cause sadly there aren't many records about it :(
The headwear is also used to represent wisdom and class because back then, these were used to differentiate the nobilities from the commoners (wr don't really do that anymore dw). The Javanese people believe that your hair, head, and face are the most important and treasured parts of your body, so these Blangkon are used to protect those parts. We also believe that Blangkon represent self-control, since Javanese men tend to keep their hair long back then and keep them loose when they're in a state of 'conflict' such as battles or war, representing uncontrollable flow of emotions so keeping their hair up and covered is seen as an act of self control.
As for the Cunduk Mentul, these pretty headpieces are typically worn by brides on their wedding day! They represent 'the sun that shines over the universe' and also... well, it depends on the number of the pieces they use, usually it's 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, each representing a different value. 1 is used as a symbol of God's singularity, usually worn by muslim brides, 3 is for the Trimurti or the Trinity of Hindu Gods that deeply rooted in Javanese values, 5 is for the five pillars of Islam, 7 symbolizes 'help' or 'aid'- the Javanese believe that 7 is a lucky number since 7 is 'pitu' in Javanese, so, yeah, 'pitu' for 'pitulungan' or help and aid in Javanese language. 9 represent the Nine Saints/Wali Sanga, 9 saints that have a major impact on the growth of Islam in the island of Java.
Their clothing respectively are called Beskap and Kebaya 𤩠Beskap is more of a modern version of Javenese traditional clothing, for it was adopted from the modern suits worn by the Deutsch during the colonization era. The word Beskap came from the word 'beschaafd', meaning civilized (oh!)
Kebaya, on the other hand, has no specific area origin cause each region has their own styles and versions! The one Katara is wearing is a Central Java Kebaya tho, famous for the velvety fabric and dark colors along with the gold motifs. The history of 'modern' Kebaya itself started in the 15th century when Dutch first settled in Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia!) The clothing had taken inspirations from different cultures (like Chinese and Indian) along the way since Indonesia was (kinda still is!) One of the centers of trade routes for both Hindia and Pacific Oceans.
Damn I'm getting tired of writing this, but next š is Kain Jarik! A piece of fabric with Batik motives wrapped around the legs :))) these babies have RANGE, like they could be used daily, for traditional dance attire, sacred rituals, weddings, even used in funerals š they're usually 2 to 3 meters in length and more variations in width, easy to customize! They also usually have dark colors like dark brown and light brown motives, but i asked my friend to draw them with red and blue and gold motives cause why not š
Anyways I think i went a little overboard cause my fingers are hurting from typing this lol.
redraw of smth i did 2 years ago :ā) ik i fell out of atla, but i still love & cherish zutara. always
Slow af, but Iām going to get thru this prompt list. š
Zutara Month, Day 1: Fire Lady Katara
April 10, 2022
Sky High x Zutara Collab with @do0hwa
Literally took me an eternity to finish my portion (she was finished in like a weekend rofl) but here's the completed scene!! I'm really happy with how it all turned out and despite me repainting mine so many times, I feel like I got back into the groove of digital painting and it was pretty therapeutic āŗļø
Zutara Month Day 25: Modern AU
I'll be honest I had a completely different drawing planned out for this prompt but it's a bit more complex and I've been so tired from school I didn't really feel like working on it shdjsjdhjd
So instead I decided to do something more fun and simple and completely self indulgent š¤ zk cute domestic vibes with cute cats and cute foods because I deserve it š¤š¤š¤ also because I saw some cute cat onigiri and my first thought was zk would definitely make food that look like their cats akjdkkskkdkf
N e ways I hope you enjoy the doodles!! Drawing the food was really fun :DD I'll work on and post the original drawing I planned some other time :>>>
You can have a lil sneak peak tho as a treat ;>>

Ooh, loving that Top 5 Katara Moments asks of yours.. how about the Top 5 moments of her adoring Sifu hotman this time? š
Thank you for the ask, and Iām so glad you loved the Top 5 Katara Moments! This oneās tricky with not much time left in the series after she forgives him, but I think I can find five moments of Katara adoring Zuko (if weāre being a little loose with the term adore lol)
1. Katara is the first to notice Zuko not in the hug and invites him in
-She does this so easily, like it was never a question, but she also gives him a reason. Itās a āthis is just what we do,ā and it gives him room to not have to face an internal struggle with companionship and trust.
2. I wish I could add tone to gifs, because when Katara thinks this is Zuko she absolutely melts at his baby picture
-(and admits to teasing him, which is my favorite love language tbh)
3. I mean this whole sequence is so soft, but pay special attention to the body language and expression here
-Because she has been down that road with Zuko, thereās no doubt in her mind that Iroh will forgive him. Sheās smiling, then she tilts her head down, and itās just SO knowing that Zuko, who has been slouched and defeated, now has the strength to sit up taller. Itās a respect that she would meet him at his level and have faith in him, and it shows his respect in her that he believes the words.
4. Katara notices Zukoās unease and, assuming itās about the impending fight, reassures him of their abilities as a team
-Without him saying a word, she picks up on the tension and tries to comfort him. Itās not a comfort like with a child. Sheās strong and confident in them, and it conveys in how she speaks to him as an equal.
5. I mean... come on
-I think this one speaks for itself.

Quick meme redraw I saw on Twitter

Family Time
I had no time to do any of the animatic ideas I had for Zutara Week and I still regret it because their images are still floating around in my brain⦠so I figured I can have messy rough idea panels for potential animatics thatāll never come to pass as a treat. =u= I just love the idea of simple family moments and soft loving looks at each other as they revel in the peace theyāve achieved together. Bleh, Iām a sap. (Slipped some solid starts-ing with the baby @shmafo lol)
But yeah low effort here only lol first draft, last draft get it out the door.
Please do not repost!
Celebratory Zutara Sketch because I finally finished all my Zutara week submissions, but cannot stop drawing these two.
Iām super excited to show people the animatics I made (and I guess my drawings but to a lesser extent because things got very experimental when I got a bunch of watercolor brushes for my iPad haha) Looking forward to everyoneās stuff! I have been stalking the Zutara tag so much, endlessly obsessed.

This prompt inspired this whole animatic in my head, and I just HAD to get it out. Dedicated to my best friend from High School and my fellow Zutara comrade, @bekahknotmarley-blog. Also SOUND ON!
