James was glad that he was able to make at least ONE person smile throughout all this. He desperately wanted to keep the positive vibes going but he knew that was difficult when everything around him was a mess. “Please. I really don’t want to be here right now.” He was worried but he didn’t really want to express that out loud right now but it was probably very evident on his face.
James didn’t need to ask him twice before Xander began to lead him away from the crowd. Where would they go? He had no clue but anywhere was better than here at this point. He looked over his shoulder at his friend who was evidently having a rough time. Xander reached over to place a hand on his shoulder to let him know that he was there. “Take a breath.” He advised him.

This… this was not what Cassidy had signed up for. Barring the person who did it, she doubted this was what any of them had signed up for, and she could only imagine the chaos that would ensue at the Prophet next time she went in. There were a lot of things she would do to jumpstart her career, but hanging around the scene of this crime was nowhere on that list. “You got it. I’m not going to try and fight through this crowd on my own,” she said to Xander, trying to not let her eyes linger on the foreboding sight in the sky. “That… symbol is what I think it is… right?”
Xander didn’t want to even look up at the sky anymore at this point as he didn’t waste any time to start walking past the crowd with her to get out of this situation. He felt like he was going to get a panic attack any moment now and he knew he just needed to breathe but it was not coming easy. He looked over at her, “It is.” He confirmed, “I never thought we’d see one in our lifetime other than in books.” He confessed, wondering how his parents would be affected by this news.

Really, James shouldn’t have even been at this celebration considering it was celebrating the win of his rival team but James was never one for missing out on any kind of fun. The only thing his plans had consisted of tonight was getting drunk and maybe going back home with a cute boy but THIS certainly wasn’t on the agenda. He could hear a calm voice and when he realised the voice was speaking to him, James pulled himself out of the daze and ripped his eyes away from the Dark Mark in the sky, looking towards the voice. “Uh — yeah, yes. Okay.” He swallowed. “So much for a celebration, yeah? Should have known any party celebrating the Wasps would be shitty.”
He could understand why the other had said that. They were rival teams. Xander tried his best to mask the shakiness in his voice. He didn’t like such negative feelings and he didn’t want to deal with them if he was being honest. To see James here was a relief. Xander laughed at his commentary, “It sure was full of surprises.” He noticed that people were taking off in a hurry and cleared his throat. “Should we take the party elsewhere then?”

“We would hardly miss a Magpies match, even if they had to lose this time.” She peered around her, not seeing her sister’s familiar face anywhere. She was also an adult that could take care of herself, but she would always be Isla’s baby sister. “I would say splitting up is not a great idea. Ugh, this is such an annoying event to happen.”
“Oh, I forgot. They’re one of your favorite teams, huh?” Xander began walking but he made sure not to get too far away from Isla. It was an unusual friendship that he had with the sisters but he didn’t mind it. He considered them both good friends to him. Xander chuckled, “What a way to ruin a party, huh?”

Isla frowned at the glowing green sky. People were whispering, starting to crowd together in an effort to get away. She looked around and folded her arms across her chest, pulling her blazer closer around her. “Hmm?” she said, her eyes focusing on the boy next to her. “Okay,” she said, her tongue feeling thick on the word. “We should find Eliza. Make sure she’s okay.”
“She’s here?” Xander said with worry in his voice. Xander hadn’t seen Isla while he was here and now that he knew she was, his eyes were darting around to see if she could be spotted. Xander nodded. “Alright. I’d say let’s split up but I think considering the chaos that everyone’s in right now-- that’s probably not the best idea.”
Panic. That was his first thought but his body wouldn’t move. He was glued to the spot he was in and he could stop staring at where the dark mark was not too long ago. What did it mean? What was the purpose of ruining such an incredibly fun party? To this day, he could never understand why people were cruel or had such horrible intentions and he had escaped from it. Xander cleared his throat, hearing some people telling others to go home. “Well, I guess that’s our cue. Walk with me?” He said, trying to put what just happened to the back of his mind. He was always good at blocking things out as if they didn’t happen.

The celebration had turned cold the moment everyone realized what was in the sky. Still in her Magpie shirt (the only time she would wear it was if she couldn’t support her own team) she tried to make her way through the crowd. She saw two teenagers starting to fight and she pulled the pair apart. “This is the last thing you should be doing. This is not the time or the place. Go back to your families. Now.” Recognition of who she was flickered in their eyes before one ran off, the other moving slower away from her. She let out a sigh, trying hard to keep her emotions in check.
There was obvious chaos and Xander understood why. There was fear and people didn’t know how to deal with him. Him included. He had an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach as he did whenever he saw that mark, whether that be textbooks or here now, standing in the streets where he had been celebrating not too long ago. His birth parents both had that mark on their arms. He heard a familiar voice and turned around, feeling relief as he spotted her. “Eliza!” He called out, “You alright?”
No one will know the violence it took to become this gentle.
