I can see Richie being close with his mom when he was younger. He grew up watching his mom preparing offerings and lighting incense for the Buddha and their ancestors, which served as a gateway to his interest in spirituality (and tarot) when he got older. Also. As a kid, he used to be afraid of the monster in his closet (which was, of course, empty), so his mom told him to pray to Amitabha or Quan Âm for protection.

As an adult he doesn’t consider himself a devout Buddhist (and was never formally initiated into the religion lol), but he still prays, partially because he wants to maintain a connection to both his mom and his culture.
