okay i don’t wanna sound delusional but I just finished the Crank Palace bc I only found out it existed a few weeks ago, and my god I didn’t need this.

Say about Thomas’ devotions what you like idc, but Newt in the end clearly had one emotional centre and that was Thomas.

The way he stole a knife from Thomas just to remember him by something.

The way it’s always “Tommy and the others”.

The way he refers to his existence without them in the Crank Palace as “Post-Thomas life”

The way he sees his whole world tilt before his eyes but it’s actually just Thomas falling to the ground.

The way he thinks Jonesy definitely deserved getting hit by the launcher for attacking Tommy.

The way he thinks 20 miles is a far way to walk and then thinks Tommy would agree with him but still get it done anyway without complaint.

The way the last thing he thought about before dying was Thomas. “Tommy will understand” .

Also not Newt calling him Tommy in his head whenever he thinks about him.

Even when it’s “Tommy had shot him.”

I hate it here. So much.

it's okay, it's okay and tommy—, in my objective opinion, deserve way more attention than the please, tommy, please gets, especially if it's about the films (tho i also in general prefer their fight/newt's death from the film rather than the book)

been seeing so many people argue how Newtmas is not even present in the books and that it’s just Dylan and Thomas looking at each other like they’re in love in the movies but i just can’t agree. Like yes shippers can be annoying af and a lot of what is being thrown around is just fanon and reduces the characters a lot, I get that it’s annoying. I know Newtmas isn’t canon and I’m not even arguing that because yes again, I know.

But Thomas says shit like Newt being one of the few people he actually liked. Is glad to have Newt around even when Newt is being miserable. Is relieved at Newt’s presence. Breaks out of a fear freeze bc Newt’s in danger. Really liked Newt and didn’t know if he could handle it if Newt turned on him. Is reassured by seeing Newt smiling. Etc. And that’s just Thomas’ side of it. Just the first book. If I remember correctly, Thomas talks about how he’d missed Newt literally within the first 10 pages of the second book.

Like I do think their bond was special and a lil different from other relationships. And there is no way they were not extremely important to one another. Just let me have that.

This is probs common knowledge, but i've always considered Newt to have one of the quickest reaction speeds amongst the gladers. it makes sense, considering he used to be a runner, but there's plenty of examples of it throughout both book and film series. he reacts to Thomas shouting at him that the doors are shutting pretty much instantly in the books, and almost catches Thomas' shirt when he runs into the maze in the films. there's the bit in the books where they're all hiding from the grievers in the homestead and Newt is the first up when he hears a noise, as well as the first to run to Gally when he starts pulling the planks off of the windows. he's also, as far as i remember, typically the FIRST person to reach thomas whenever he collapses throughout the series - the griever sting, when he's shot in TST book, when Ben tackles him in the films and Newt also then knocks Ben out quick, too. in tdc book he also grabs ratman at one point and shoves him against the door before he can finish a sentence, or react. and when he punches Minho in the face, it's described as "quick as a striking snake." he's quick!!

He probably lied on that floor in pure agony and hated himself more than ever because he had given up when everyone else was still doing their best to survive, and not even then was he granted what he’d wanted. Even in death, he’d failed. Not even that he could do right. Not even that he could fix. And then he just persisted in that life he hated, never trying to end it all again because he accepted the fact that he just didn’t get the things he wished for. So even when he continued to suffer every day after, he probably thought it was what he deserved for being selfish because he couldn’t see that he was just a kid pushed too far, and he continued to quietly do his part just so everyone else could maybe be a little less in pain than he was.
