"We don’t have to do this. You now that, right?”
You silly little girl, you think you’ve survived so long that survival shouldn’t hurt anymore. You keep trying to turn your body bullet proof. You keep trying to turn your heart bomb shelter. You silly thing. You are soft and alive. You bruise and heal. Cherish it. It is what you are born to do.

Damian frown and shook his head. “No I’m clean. Promise.” He held his hand up. He then noticed something. “…But you’re not.” He backs away a bit.
She’s bitten. But why hasn’t she turned yet?
{ — ➶ ;; } "Hey now, it's..." (...S h i t----) "...It's not what you think."
"We had this discussion before— you ain’t ready for one yet."
{ — ➶ ;; } "Ugh... You're such a stick in the mud. I can handle it, Joel."

{ -- ➶ ; } She’s alone, her only companion being the darkness. It’s not a pleasant sort of darkness either; nothing about it is cooling, soothing, or quiet in the least and it seems as though there’s no escape from its hold. Rather stifling it is, effectively drawing the air from laboured lungs and creating a shiny varnish of sweat along the plane of her back. Uneasiness taints frontal line of thought. She feels that at any given point this approaching congregation of collective shadows could swallow her whole, erasing any remnants of prior existence. Apparently said dark mass has also stolen away her voice as well as the air from her very lungs because every attempt to scream for help has ended in futile.
Joel!
A single syllable begs to burst past the confinement of parched lips, yearning for tangibility. Normally he’s right there, never too far away. It seems as though that’s not the case any longer. This is the moment where her entire being seems to grow limp, essence slowly succumbing to the black wall of obsidian.
She’s gradually disappearing from herself.
"A-Ah!”
Petite frame flies awake, dark chocolate hues blown wide. Another nightmare has plagued her rest (or what little she could scrape up), and violently interrupted such treasured moments of peace. Despite the frustration ever present, Ellie’s relieved to be free from her mind’s disturbing imagery and she can’t help but heave a sigh. It’s over and once heartbeat returns to a semi-normal pace, the back of a pallid appendage reaches to wipe away the steady stream of sweat from chestnut brows. It’s about 2am, she assumes, and the silence is overwhelming.
"Fuck…”
Defeated sigh falls into existence, as covers are pulled away and feet swing to drop onto the floor. There’s not a chance of her being able to rest easy, not unless she’s given the relief of loneliness. So with that, Ellie let’s quiet footing echo around her as makes leave of her sleeping quarters. It’s against the rules, she’s quite aware of this fact to be honest, but emotional distress has been placed much higher on her ‘things to care about’ list.
Not far this journey takes her, Ellie almost immediately reaching the door of her interest. Hesitation seems to seep along conscious forefront, physicality freezing in its entirety; she can’t find it in her to merely raise a fist and knock. Something’s holding the young girl back.
….
Tap Tap
And she’s found the strength to smash through deafening silence, now waiting for some kind of response from the other side. After enough time has passed and she’s gained no sign of life, the door slowly is pushed open and Ellie peaks her head inside.
"Psst… Joel?”
Not but a whisper fills the air, the bright eyes of a young girl peering into the darkness. It certainly is quiet for a desperate cry of help.
