[Shakes his hand] Nice to meet you. And it’s nice to meet you as well, Sawyer. [Takes Sawyers hand and shakes it gently. She grins] How old is he?
[smiles down at the baby while she shakes his hand] About three weeks.
It is. American History.
Good. American History, huh? How big is your class?
[Smiles] He looks like you. Oh, how rude of me, I’m Kylie.
Not rude at all. Nice to meet you, Kylie. I’m X. [holds out the one hand that he isn’t holding the baby in] And this is Sawyer.
You should, your kid is adorable.
Thank you. [takes Sawyer out of his sling and holds him in his arms] He gets all his good looks from me. His mom is beautiful too, but still mainly from me.
If you were in one of my classes, I’d be too amused to say anything.
That’s a good thing, right? I am taking it as a good thing. What classes do you teach anyways?
Probably. I’ve seen other people do it.
Really? Okay cool. Imma do it then.
[is carrying Sawyer in one of those wraps/sling thingys] Do you think my professor would be chill if I went to class tomorrow wearing one of my children? ‘Cause honestly I’m really enjoying this sling thing and I kinda feel like a mama kangaroo.
She slowly got out of the wheelchair with Sadie in her arms. “We have babies.” Raven kissed Sawyer on the forehead, then Xavier on the cheek. “I love you two men, and my little girl.”
Xavier smiled when Raven kissed his cheek then made it to where he was holding Sawyer carefully in one arm, so he can get the keys out of his pocket to unlock the car. He open the door to the back seat for Ray, then went over to the other side of the car and strapped Sawyer into his carrier. “We are about to take them home.”
“I will make sure to let them know that their dad has very strict rules regarding their height.” The crying wasn’t a surprise to her, that was a very common thing among babies. “He for sure saw you that time!” It seemed like it happened quickly seeing as they were already making their way outside. That’s when it hit her, “Xavier. We are taking our babies home.”
“Thanks, babe. If they do become taller than me, I might have to start walking around in slits.” Xavier got Sawyer to stop crying once they got outside. He smiled and looked down at Raven. “Yeah-- we are. We have babies and they are coming home with us. And they will always be home with us-- for the next eighteen years.”
“Mhm. Our little guys are smaller than average, but that’s okay because I am sure they will grow up to be tall like their dad.” The wheelchair began moving slowly, and though there was no need for it Raven held Sadie even closer to her body. “Plus they can only see like eight inches away because babies have crappy eyes.”
“They aren’t allowed to be taller than me, though.” He laughed a bit. “So like should I put my face in front of his for him to see me?” Xavier did it anyways without waiting for Raven to respond. Sawyer began to cry a bit. “Oh-- Oh god, okay. Shhhh, it’s okay. I’m sorry. It’s okay.” He said trying to sooth the baby and hoping Raven wasn’t giving him a judge-y look.
“Oh no, these guys are very little. Their brother was much bigger when he was born. But premature and twins makes for very little babies.” She reached up to tuck the blanket around Sawyer more securely. “He looks so tiny in your arms.”
“So most are like a little bigger than this, yeah?” Xavier leaned down slightly so Raven didn’t have to stretch so much to fix the blanket. He then stood back up straight when she was done and proceeded to walk. “Right? No wonder he has had his eyes closed this whole time. I probably look like some big scary giant.”
“I am going to try my best to make sure that’s actually true.” A familiar nurse walked over pushing a wheelchair for Raven to sit in. “Xavier, do you want me to hold the both of them since I will be sitting down?” Raven carefully sat while holding Sadie close to her body.
Xavier looked down at the baby and adjusted him in his arms a bit. “Nah, he is fine. I got it.” He cooed at Sawyer and looked over at Ray. “Are they actually suppose to be this small?”
“Rocket?” Raven looked down at the baby in her arms. “How about that, Sadie? Do you like the name Rocket?” Raven gave her a small kiss on the forehead before giving one to Sawyer. “Sadie loves her new nickname, and she says that you’re the best dad.”
Hearing what Raven said made Xavier blush a bit so he looked down at Sawyer cause he is manly and doesn’t blush. “Well, Sawyer says you are or the best mother there ever is and I think Sadie would agree.”
“Thank you very much.” Raven shook her head, but gave Xavier a warm smile. “Well, I guess if Sawyer doesn’t mind being called Rip-Jaw then I won’t day anything. As long as my little man is happy.” Raven stopped at the nurses station, quickly speaking to the man sitting at the desk who then told her that they would get a wheelchair right away. “Sadie needs a cool nickname too.”
“Your little man is happy, and so is your son.” He stood quietly and rocked Sawyer a bit while Raven talked to the nurse. “We can call her like Viper, or Rocket. Rocket and Rip-Jaw?”
“When you go through over a day of labour, then I will get you a wheelchair and push you around for three hole days.” Raven was much slower, still feeling tired from the first week of motherhood. She shook her head, “Sadie, do you like daddy’s idea?” Raven paused before speaking to Xavier, “She says she likes Sadie and Sawyer.”
“Fine, fine... I won’t complain about not being wheeled out.” Xavier let out a little laugh, making sure not to be too loud. He slowed down so he wasn’t ahead of Raven and instead walking next to her side. “What’s that Saywer? Hmmm? Oh, okay.” Xavier turned to look at Raven. “Sawyer said as much as he loves his and his sister’s name, he is gonna let his dad call him Rip-Jaw.”
She leaned into him, resting her head on his chest as she looked at their two tiny babies. “I can’t believe we finally get to take them home. They still look so tiny.” She reached down and picked Sadie up, holding her carefully. “Will you hold Sawyer? The nurse said she will meet us at the nurses’ station. Something about all mothers being discharged get a wheelchair ride down to the car.”
Xavier looked down at the babies and smiled wider. “Yeah, I got him. C’mon lil’ guy.” He scooped the newborn into his arms. “How come you get to go out in a wheelchair? What about the fathers?” Xavier questioned jokingly but in a tone that made him seem dead serious. He walked out of the room towards the nurses’ station, every now and then glancing down at his son. “I still think we should have named one of them Rip-Jaw.”
