Illyria's playfulness earned her a smirk from Harley. "Well-" She let out a sigh before glancing down at what she had written and then back up at the other woman. "Have you ever considered that the woods aren't the crime scene? Maybe jus a dumping site? I mean, if there is something or someone out there killing people, maybe everything isn't taking place in the woods." She said with a shrug. "I've also looked at photos of past animal attacks and the ones happening now are different. Like, significantly different. The lacerations and bite radius are much bigger and deeper all of a sudden. That doesn't just happen overnight...I don't know. It just seems like we aren't getting the full story here."

elena and katherine were out enjoying the night, lots of vodka and lots of blood ( in moderation of course. ) but the indulgence, the high it put her on, the fun. it was all consuming, euphoric even. the brunette swayed her body to whatever music was playing, readying herself to get some more vodka. walking backward in her inebriated state she didn't realize someone was directly in her path, bumping them. ❝ oh god. ❞ she made a face, waving a hand as she did. ❝ i'm so sorry. low inhibitions, lots of people. cocktail for this kind of thing. i didn't spill anything on you, did i? ❞
Aethelwulf barely reacted when she stumbled into him, his hand steadying her arm more out of instinct than care. ❝ You didn't but, careful. The night tends to swallow those who don’t watch where they’re going. ❞ His gaze flickered between Elena and Katherine, something dark and unreadable settling behind his eyes. For a fleeting moment, he had expected something more … SOME ECHO OF HIS MOTHER ... But it wasn’t there. Not in the way they carried themselves, not in the softness of their strength, nor the fire that once made his mother feel like a Valkyrie among mortals. His grip loosened as he looked down at Elena, voice low and indifferent. ❝ You should pace yourself, ❞ he added, almost idly, though his tone held an edge. ❝ Or don’t. Roxanne's facial expression softened when she realized who it was. "Hey Davina." She returned her smile and dropped her shoulders. Roxy was just now starting to see how tense her thoughts were making her. Mentally and physically. "That's what everyone says before they finally give in." Turning her attention over to the display she pointed at one of the pictures. It was a small bouquet of flowers that had more of a minimalist vibe. "What do you think of that one?" She asked nodding her head towards it.

his eyes fixed on her for a second longer, a hint of suspicion seeping into the depths of his chest. people did not return to a place like beacon falls... at least, not without a reason, and klaus mikaelson did not appreciate it when things were done without his knowledge of the reason why. “strange time to come back into town,” he finally spoke up, his voice smooth but with a hint of wariness. his eyes never left hers as he studied her face. “animal attacks, frightened people, rumors everywhere...” his voice trailed off for a second before his eyes took on a hint of intensity. “so, tell me,” his voice dripped with coolness, “why exactly have you come back?”
❝ ⸻ Oh, Klaus… you say that like I’ve ever needed a reason to go wherever I please. ❞ Katherine drawled, lifting her gaze to meet his with a slow, knowing smirk, her posture relaxed despite the sharp edge in his tone. She let the silence linger just long enough to be intentional, swirling the whiskey in her glass as if his suspicion amused her more than it concerned her. ❝ I do love a bit of small-town chaos. Keeps things from getting … boring. ❞ Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly, studying him just as carefully, masking the flicker of something behind her eyes, subtle, gone almost as quickly as it appears. Because for just a second ... She almost tells him the truth; That she didn’t choose this. That something dragged her back.
But Katherine Pierce doesn’t give Klaus Mikaelson that kind of power. Not again. ❝ If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were worried about me. ❞ A soft, almost breathless laugh followed, but there was nothing warm in it ... only certainty. She did know better. Klaus Mikaelson didn’t worry. He calculated. Controlled. ❝ But since you’re so interested… ❞ Her voice dropped, silk over steel. ❝ Why don’t you tell me what you think I’m doing here? ❞ A faint smile tugged at her lips again, sharper now. More dangerous. ❝ I’d hate to disappoint you if you’ve already built a theory. ❞
after regaining all of her memories from compulsion when she turned, elena knew that no matter what katherine said - there was a part of her that wouldn't truly harm elena or let her get hurt. the memories from when she was a little girl were very fresh in her mind, but she hadn't found the words yet to ask katherine about it. ❝ yes, i want to go out. ❞ the younger doppelganger hummed, lifting the glass in her hand to her lips and swallowing the merlot in the glass. ❝ this town, you always run into someone you know. that used to be the charm of it, but now..❞ she trailed off, shrugging her shoulders before running a hand through her long dark locks. ❝ i just want to have fun for a while. ❞
Katherine’s eyes lingered on her a second longer than necessary, searching, measuring, like she was trying to decide which version of Elena was sitting in front of her now. The glass, the tone, the choice to be here … it didn’t go unnoticed. ❝ Fun, ❞ she echoed softly, the word tasting foreign on her tongue before it curled into something sharper. ❝ That’s a dangerous little game for someone like you. Fun tends to come with consequences. You remember those, don’t you? ❞ She reached past Elena without asking, reclaiming the bottle and pouring herself a glass this time, as if reestablishing some invisible boundary.
❝ I DON'T WANT THE SALVATORE BROTHERS OR YOUR SELF-RIGHTIOUS LITTLE FRIENDS CRYING ABOUT HOW I CURRUPTED SWEET INNOCENT DULL ELENA. But if you’re so desperate to escape your tragic small-town spiral, ❞ she continued, voice lowering just slightly, ❝ I suppose I could be persuaded to entertain you. part of elena could appreciate the fact that she and katherine had the same face in instances like this, when she wanted to get inside the place katherine was staying she could do so easily. the younger vampire let herself in, sat waiting on the couch with some wine until the elder petrova finally got home. ❝ i want to go out, not just mystic grill beers and shots go out. the way we did after i turned. ❞ seeing stefan dredged feelings she had been pressing way down and truthfully, she didn't want to deal with them now. ❝ i've even poured you a glass to start, we're pregaming. ❞
Katherine didn’t bother hiding the flicker of irritation when she stepped inside and found her. but seeing like that, if anything, it sharpened into something almost amused. Her eyes swept over the room ; the open bottle, the poured glass, Elena draped across her couch like she belonged there. It earned a quiet, humorless huff. ❝ ⸻ Letting yourself in, touching my things without permission … ❞ Katherine slipped off her jacket slowly, deliberately. ❝ You’re either getting brave , or asking for a death wish. I’m not sure which is worse. I know I said come here when you want but still ... didn't think you ACTUALLY take the invitation ❞ katherine was very touchy when it came to her things.
She moved closer, heels silent against the floor, gaze locking onto Elena’s. ❝ You want to go out , ❞ she repeated, voice flattening. ❝ Not your usual sad little Mystic Falls routine . ❞ A faint smirk ghosted across her lips. ❝ What what exactly are you running from tonight, Elena. ”

Katherine doesn’t flinch. doesn’t even blink at his laughter. If anything, it amuses her. ❝ ⸻ Oh, Stefan … ❞ she sighs, almost bored, almost fond, but not quite. She steps a little closer, voice lowering, silk wrapped around a blade. ❝ I didn’t force you to do anything. I nudged. You spiraled. Big difference. ❞ a soft, breathy laugh escapes her, but there’s no warmth in it. ❝ And let’s not rewrite history … your father pulled the trigger, not me. ❞ She leans in just enough for it to feel personal before pulling back again, already detaching.

I’m done playing the villain in your little redemption story. so, whatever little martyr mission you and Damon are on ... find someone else to drag into it. elijah's ears perk up. she wasn't who he'd expect to be there, examining his chaotic violence. no blood hardly spilled and yet there were lifeless bodies at his feet, scattered around the chair in which he sat, examining the book he was after. his expression is almost soft, his features not matching that of a man who had ended the lives of a small house population just moments before. if anything, there's amusement in his expression. ❛❛you do not know the half of it.❜❜ elijah tells her, head tilting, ❛❛friends of yours?❜❜

the words echo in elijah's ears as if a gong had been rung right next to his head. it just continued to ring, and ring, and ring, with no apparent end in sight. his expression is flat. as lifeless as elijah mikaelson was, in a matter of speaking. ❛❛i've seen plenty of faces over the years. can't say any particular one stands out for one reason or another.❜❜ elijah lied. the more or less upside of being as old as he was, was that he could handle the occasional steady of a lie that could be hardly detected. at least... not outside of family. but he had remembered the other's face. he'd only seen it from a distance for years, marking it to memory, holding onto the guilt for being the one who had ended his mother's life.

HE WATCHES HER WITH A RARE CURIOUSITY. not so much given these days; she smells human with a hint of something extra. something earthy. something electric. something familiar in his brain but he hasn't put his finger on it yet. his existence was always going, going, going, GONE. now so more than ever these days. the only rare time he manages to stop, it seems, is when he and his siblings are all in one location. home. he listens to her, allowing her to work through what it she hears. eyes narrowing just slightly with the occasional glance into her world. his stance is relaxed. ELIJAH MIKAELSON WAS HARDLY EVER NOT. but it's not threatening at the moment. distant, but close, as if he needs to be to hear what she has to say. his jaw flexes like a tightly wound rubber band when she speaks the last word. you. ❛❛i apologize for my echoes,❜❜ elijah tells her kindly. genuinely. ❛❛they're hard to keep silent these days.❜❜ and it's true. he carried them with him, little reminders of reasons, of pros and cons, of walking away from an existence that wouldn't let him. that wouldn't shake him. he knew what he'd done was wrong... but when you could exist for forever, you had eternity to mull it over. ❛❛may i offer you a cup of tea? it may help you shake it.❜❜
Lydia doesn’t look away when he speaks. Most people would. Most people would feel it, even if they didn’t understand it, and step back, put distance between themselves and whatever clung to him if they knew. Instead, her gaze lingers, studying him in a way that feels almost invasive, like she’s trying to piece together something far older than the man standing in front of her.
❝ ⸻ Don’t apologize, ❞ she says softly . ❝ They’re not loud. just ... clear to see for someone like me ... ❞ someone who can barely control her powers . At his offer, something flickers across her expression. surprise , maybe or amusement. It lingers just long enough to soften the tension in her shoulders.
❝ Tea? ❞ Lydia repeats, one brow lifting faintly as she finally lets her eyes meet his properly. There’s something curious there now. Not fear. Not even caution. But Interest.
❝ That’s your solution? ❞ she asks, a hint of a smile pulling at the corner of her lips. ❝ Centuries of… echoes , ❞ she gestures vaguely toward him, ❝ and you’re offering herbal remedies ? ❞ She steps just a little closer. not enough to invade, but enough to test the space between them. Enough to see if he moves. Her voice lowers slightly, quieter, edged with something almost playful now.
❝ I don’t think tea is going to fix what I’m hearing, ❞ Lydia says, her gaze holding his. ❝ But… I’m curious what you’d try next. ❞
Roxanne felt an eerie energy begin to creep up into her system. One that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. "Hear what?" She was a wolf. Surely if there was even the smallest of noises, she'd be able to pick up on it...Right? So why wasn't she picking up on anything now? What concerned her the most was the look on Lydia's face. She seemed so sure, so certain. Yes people heard things all the time but this was different. Roxy could feel it. She turned her head to look over the area and stepped in front of Lydia as she did so. Roxanne was already a naturally protective person but even more so when it came to humans. "Tell me again what you heard?" Her eyes were now on Lydia once more.
The moment Roxanne steps in front of her, it’s like something snaps. The whispers cut off. The pressure in her head fractures. Reality rushes back in all at once. Lydia blinks, her expression shifting from distant and hollow to sharp. Her gaze drops briefly to where Roxanne now stands too close, too present.
❝ ⸻ do you mind? ❞ her voice clipped, stepping slightly to the side to reclaim her space. Her hand lifts instinctively, brushing her hair back like she’s grounding herself, but her composure doesn’t fully settle. There’s still something lingering behind her eyes … something unsettled.
❝ I heard… ❞ she hesitates, the certainty faltering now that the silence has returned. Her gaze drifts past Roxanne, back toward the darkening street, like she’s trying to catch it again. ❝ nothing ... i was just thinking ❞
LIVE FOREVER AND YOU HEAR PLENTY OF THINGS. it's nights like this that elijah feels something that he shouldn't. a deep seated regret that makes him want to disappear against the wind and fade away. maybe in another life, he does. turned to ashes, scattered in the wind. but in this life? he only faced whispers he couldn't escape. ❛❛i think it depends on what you heard.❜❜ elijah spoke, coming to a dead stop now. his darkened hues scanning their surroundings.
but as he listens, he doesn't hear his thoughts or past creeping in on him. it's something else. something he might not hear... ❛❛go on. what do you hear?❜❜ he asks, noting the other's pale expression in the half moon light. she hears something he can't. that's never a good thing.
The sound doesn’t stop when he spoke to her. ❝ They’re not whispers, ❞ she says softly, almost absently. ❝ They’re echoes .... ❞ Her gaze flickers to him and then everything stops. The noise cuts out so suddenly it feels like something has been ripped away. The street falls into a hollow, unnatural silence, pressing in around her ears until all she can hear is her own heartbeat and his steps towards her.
But it’s not quiet. Not really.
Lydia’s breath stutters as something else replaces it . something older and heavier. It clings to him, not seen, not heard, but felt. Her eyes landing on the handsome vampire now, truly seeing him for the first time. Not just a man standing in the fading light, but something wrapped in centuries of loss, of violence, of lives ended and carried like a shadow that never quite lets go.
❝ ⸻ you ... ❞ she breathes, edged with something uncertain. It’s not accusation, not fear, but recognition.
With the tiniest of smirks playing at the corners of her lips, Harley playfully rolled her eyes. She then let out an exhale and opened up her notes. "Well-" She started. "It's mostly just theories of what the police could be missing. Things they haven't considered or taken into account...Assumptions being made...Things like that."

MY LITTLE SHERLOCK ❞ illyria teased the mundane girl as she motioned having the famous sherlock mustache . wondering what could she have possibly come up with. If she didn't mention anything supernatural ... well , that's going to have to change, right ? after all, she wondered how would she react if she just KNEW
"Yeah, they do." She replied. "Though most of them don't always end up with their guts ripped out of their stomach, so there's that too." Growing up focused on fighting, killing and staying alive, didn't really leave her much time to work on her social skills. If she was going to keep a low profile in Beacon Falls and require info from others from time to time, that was going to have to be something she needed to work on. Her features softened. "Oh, nice. Same here, I've only been in town for about a month. Nice to know I'm not the only newbie around."

There had always been something about this woman Harley couldn't put her finger on. Something...off putting. But something that intrigued her at the same time. Most would be surprised Harley would let Illyria even get away with calling her little Becca. "You of all people should know that I'm allergic to doing what I'm told." No matter what anyone said it was impossible to throw Harley off of a trail or theory once she'd found it. "Trust me when I tell you I'm doing a much better job than the police. I'm always careful. That won't happen."

"You'd think people would eventually learn to be less stupid." Everything Anora said about mountain lions pretty much went in one ear and out the other. Violet wasn't interested in that right now. All she wanted was answers, or at least to be pointed in a direction where she could get them. Unfortunately to get those answers, socialization was necessary. Though the young hunter would much rather keep to herself, continuing on like that wasn't going to get her very far. And it certainly wouldn't help her complete her mission. "So, this whole people getting mauled thing, that happen a lot around here?"
