After making their way to Tony’s and spending a pleasant time together, Bonnie had to admit that while she was feeling a lot better than before, she was still a bit down thanks to that letter her papa had sent her. Her gloominess must have been noticed by Andi, as the blonde nudged her against the shoulder and pointed up. Wondering what she was referring to, the designer noticed a mistletoe. Her eyes furrowed in confusion. “But it’s still November” she commented, turning back towards her friend. Why would Tony’s hang a mistletoe when Christmas wasn’t here yet. Andi shrugged, still smiling gently at her friend. “Seems like they are getting ready for the holidays early” was all she replied. “But you know, rules are rules.” Andi added and Bonnie blushed a bit. She then nodded, smiling a bit as she did so. “I suppose ya are right, rules are rules.” And with that, she leaned over and kissed her friend.

“It’s a mistletoe, how lovely.” The moment her newfound friend pointed up at the mistletoe before them, the designer found herself smiling a bit. She knew what it meant to be standing under the mistletoe with someone, although not wanting to test her boundaries, she wasn’t going to go and outright kiss India. What she didn’t expect, however, was for the other woman to take slip her arms around Bonnie’s waist and pull her in for a kiss. “?!” Startled, the designer’s eyes were wide for a split moment until they slowly closed as she kissed back. A few seconds later, and they finally pulled back. “Dat was- unexpected” she let out a breath. A bigger smile soon formed onto her face. “But good. Ya’re a really good kisser, India.”

The thought crossed her mind once more how hard this must have been for Bonnie to have to hide from everyone. And it must have been even harder when every one of those whom she had told had left. Even if they hadn’t left because of her, it still had to have stung because those who had accepted her were no longer here for her to spend time with. It was a rare thing in this world to find people who weren’t blinded by their own closed minds and harsh judgments and when one did find them, it was important to keep them. “Who else knows, if you don’t mind me asking?” It was none of her business and Bonnie didn’t have to tell her, but she was curious. “Well, that’s not true anymore,” she countered, her voice gentle and eyes shining with kindness. “You have me.”

Although her tears were starting to lessen a lot more now than they did before, Bonnie continued to cry happy and relief tears because this whole thing had finally turned for a better. Of course this still wasn’t how she expected to spend her birthday, but having a close friend like Vik accept her for who she is, was probably the best gift she could ever ask for. “Ya can ask, it’s okay.” she let out a faint laugh before replying once again. “Kyung-Won was da first to know, as I told them not long after I moved here. Than there was Rudy and lastly, Johanna.” She was nodding her head as she said each of her friends names, remembering exactly how each of them reacted to once they found out. Bonnie smiled. “I know, and thank ya.”

“Yes, ma’am. Got a place for it already and now I need to get it all decorated so that will be fun.”

“Hm. Are ya considering on hiring someone to decorate da place for ya or are ya planning on doing it all by yarself?”

“After knowing them for so many years, it gets difficult to know what to get them, because you pretty much bought everything you might think they like. Plus, I’m not as close to my cousins as I used to be, so I’m not exactly sure what they would like anymore. We talk maybe twice a month, if that?” He explained to her, shoving his hands into his pockets and shrugging his shoulders. “Well, they’re both true – and they know lately I end up waiting the last minute because I never know what to get them.”

“Okay, dat’s very very true. But I like to think dat there are times were ya can still surprise someone no matter how many things ya already got them. After all, new things are coming out every single year so ya can’t exactly get them everything they want unless they don’t want anything dat’s new. And have ya ever considered in contacting yar aunt or uncle and asking them what they like?” She asked, tilting her head at him. “So, it’s something dat ya don’t even bother to hide, huh?”

Bon, Bon,  Since you’re a designer, I figured you’d appreciate designer things for Christmas. I forgot the name of the bracelet but it’s very fancy and when I saw it, it screamed your name, so I had to get it. I was going to stop there, but then I saw the two other gifts while doing my other shopping and couldn’t resist buying them for you. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas because you deserve it. “It wouldn’t bother you even a bit? Because I find that hard to believe. I kind of understand what you mean. I’m an obnoxious trust fund baby, so losing money never really feels like losing money since there’s always more where it came from. If you were serious about that, I would think you mad. Not that being mad is a bad thing, necessarily, but I’m just saying. Technically admitting that you are one isn’t the same as saying, “Hi, I’m ‘insert name here’ and I’m a shopaholic, so you’re still balancing on the line between admission and denial.”

“Hm...okay, so maybe I would have a lil problem with it. But not by much, because even though I shouldn’t let anyone waste da money I worked hard for to get, I am also da type to not care much about money because money isn’t always everything. Haha, yeah I really don’t want anyone to take my credit cards away. Okay, so ya want me to go off and say “Hi, I’m Bonnie Raines and I’m a shopaholic.” There, I said it.”

“The fourth?” She had to admit that she was surprised by that piece of information, but she was also happy and relieved to know that Bonnie hadn’t been keeping this information to herself the entire time. It couldn’t have been easy to hide this from the people that she loved, but it also couldn’t have been easy to tell anyone either because of how her father treated her over it. Now that she knew, she honestly thought Bonnie to be one of the bravest women she had ever met. Hearing her friend’s next admission, her expression fell just slightly and she placed her hand over Bonnie’s, finally understanding part of why she must have been so terrified to share the truth with her. “That’s why it was so hard for you to tell me, wasn’t it? Because the others left and you thought I would, too.” She gave her friend a small smile. “I’m glad it makes you happy and I’m happy that you shared this with me, Bon. Thank you for trusting me enough to share this with me. It means more than you know, really.”

The designer nodded. “Yep, ya’re da fourth to know.” she repeated, her smile widening a bit more. It felt good knowing that there were some people out there who knew about her and accepted her. But it did hurt that three out of the four were gone now, not that Kyung-Won, Rudy and Jo left because of her secret or anything. In fact, she still keeps in contact with both Kyung-Won and Rudy but sadly not much with Jo. Feeling Viktoriya’s hand over her’s, she smiled at her once again, and was about to shake her head before she paused. She wasn’t going to lie to her friend about this, so instead she slowly nodded. “Yeah.  I mean, da others didn’t leave because of my secret or anything, but— since they are gone now, I don’t really have anyone to be open with anymore so...” Bonnie allowed her words to trail off, shrugging her shoulders as if it meant anything.

The hug caught her by surprise and a soft squeak left her as the other’s arms wrapped around her. She immediately returned the hug, however, using the hug as a way to repeat everything she had just said about accepting her friend. She was here and she was not going anywhere. Sure, she may not have the best reputation for staying or for keeping promises these days, but this was a promise that she would not break because she did not want to hurt Bonnie more than it was obvious that her friend had already been hurt. “You don’t have to thank me for not judging you, Bon. That would never be something I would do,” she reassured, squeezing her friend just as tightly so she would understand that she meant it. As the other pulled away from her, a smile formed on her lips. “I may not know how much it means to you, but I can see that it means a lot and just know that I didn’t even have to think about this for a second. Me not accepting you was not and is not a possibility ever, okay? I may be an asshole, but I’m not that kind of asshole.”

A part of her couldn’t believe how accepting people were around here. Viktoriya wasn’t exactly the first person who Bonnie decided to admit she was trans to, that title belongs to Kyung-Won as she told them about it not even a week after knowing them. But even though a few others already knew about it, that didn’t mean the happiness she felt over her friends acceptances wasn’t any less than the happiness she felt after she came out to Kyung-Won, to Rudy, to Jo. Having more people knowing about this, it made her feel like she could relax even more around them and not have to pretend anymore- she always have been pretending, even when many doesn’t realize it. Still, despite the other telling her that she didn’t need to thank her, the designer felt the need that she had to because she was, well happy. “Ya know, ya are da fourth person as of now who knows about me in Darlington.” She decided to bring up, leaning back against the bench. “Well, first person as of yet since three of them are gone but...it still makes me happy dat ya accepted me, Vik.”

“Oh without a doubt. One of my favourite Holiday traditions when I was a kid was my mom taking us to orphanages with food and gifts, we should totally do it. Throw all the gifts to the pile, let’s make others happy.”

“I am completely down with dat idea if ya are. I don’t even remember da last time I visited an orphanage, and making other people happy would honestly make my holiday...Ya know what, we really should do it, no questions about it.”

“Oh, I wasn’t worried. It isn’t my money, but it really would be shite to have money stolen before Christmas. Every cent counts, so I wouldn’t want anyone spending any amount of money on my cards. You could, but what if they already spent it before you realized they were stolen? That’s money you’d never see again unless you have a good card company or bank. There are worse things to be, so don’t feel too bad about it. The first step is denial. I learned that in A.A. so I know what I’m talking about.”

“Once again, I’ve spent way too much on my cards that it wouldn’t bother me as much. Of course, I understand dat every cent counts, especially during this time of da year, but I am always getting work so I guess losing a few cents wouldn’t be too bad. But really, it’s okay- not like I was actually serious about wanting someone to take my credit cards away. Hm, does dat mean I’m in denial dat I’m a shopaholic? Because I did technically admit dat I was one...”

“You are correct,” he informed her with a chortle at the end, shaking his head, knowing he was terrible at this whole thing and usually ended up waiting until the last day to actually finish his shipping. “But at least they would know that they liked whatever it was and wouldn’t have to return it during the madness, or re-gift it. I guess that is some sort of luck. Gift cards are too impersonal, right?”

“Dat is not a good thing, hun.” She gave him a look, placing a hand against her hips. How anyone could wait until the very end to finish their shopping, she’ll never know. “True, but dat still cancels out all da fun in shopping for them. Besides, shouldn’t ya already know what they like? Yes, yes they are. It’s not bad to give them a gift card, but it would also look like ya either waited until da end to buy for them or ya didn’t have a single clue on what to get.”

How fearful Bonnie looked while awaiting her reaction made Vik wonder how many times she had told someone and they had reacted badly. The ignorance of the universe angered her and she would never fully understand it. How could a father or a mother not accept their child for everything that they are? The only jobs of a parent were to love and protect their children, but it was a sad truth of the world that not all parents treated their children the way that they should. Seeing the smile form on Bonnie’s face, Vik allowed her thoughts to drift to the back of her mind. It was a relief to see her smiling. The tears startled her, but she could see that they were not tears of pain. A smile pulled at her lips as she squeezed her friend’s hands once more. “Of course I accept you,” she replied, as though it were absurd for anyone to think that she wouldn’t. She could be– and had been– called a lot things, but close minded was not one of them. “The person you are, that is who you have always been inside and only the ignorant would tell you any differently.” She shook her head. “My perspective of you is the same it always has been and nothing– especially not you sharing this with me– is going to change that.”

There had been so many times in the past where Bonnie had been hurt because of this. Where she thought that she could trust them with this information and not get hurt, yet in the end she did. That’s why she never was open about this. Not because she was ashamed to admit that she was transgender or because she didn’t think that there was no need to let anyone know about this, but because people who she thought were her friends– people who should have had her back regardless on whether she was born biologically a female or not, all decided to leave her once they found out. Her own papa was in denial about this whole thing, and Bonnie’s been open about being trans since she was seven years old. But Vik was different. She accepted her just like that and because she was so accepting, the designer couldn’t help but lean over and pull the older woman into a hug. “Thank ya! Thank ya! Thank ya! Thank ya so much!!!” she tightly held onto the other, fearing that if she lets go that Vik would suddenly disappear and that her friend accepting her for who she was never happened. But a few seconds later, she pulled away. “Ya really don’t know how much it means to me dat ya accepted me, Vik.”
