rollercoaster: *gets stuck at lift hill for like ten minutes*
news outlets: HORRIFYING: BELOVED ROLLERCOASTER stuck for HOURS leaving RIDERS MORTIFIED FOR THEIR LIVES AND EVERYONE DIED ON THE SPOT
on the one hand, I get it, rollercoaster scary. ! sure! I've been rollercoaster scared before!
On the other hand, rollercoaster wouldn't be so scary to so many people if we didn't make a big deal any time normal breakdowns (due to safety features) happen
roller coaster: [stops on lift hill]
news explanation: this HORRIBLE BROKEN-DOWN ROLLER COASTER STOPPED AND STRANDED RIDERS FOR 15 MINUTES
bag-holder explanation: see this is why i dont go on coasters, they're always broken
coaster enthusiast explanation: roller coasters are full of safety systems to keep people safe. the ride probably encountered an error or sensed something wrong and stopped the ride. this is actually a safety system working as intended
actual reason: operator stopped ride because someone wanted to stream on IG live from a handheld phone and threatened to call the police on the operator when they told them to put it away
it's all fun and games not counting credits until you actually tally them up because someone asked and it's looking like you might have hit 100 without noticing
ok it's looking like i'm sub-100 thank god
ok so before this i would have estimated 30 but it turns out i'm sitting at 87. wtf. that's a scary number. there are thoosies who flex lower CCs. what happened

story time: before I moved to the state I'm in now and worked at the park I work at now, I used to work for a park that's now under the six flags chain. I did not like this job. I mean, I liked it enough that I still work in parks, but that's a lower bar to clear than it sounds. Anyways, I forget exactly what prompted me to do this, but I decided to buy a huge order of mini trans flags and put them up, one at a time in the control both in guest- visible corners. (Not like the booth had many places to hide them, but I went out of the way to make sure guests could see them.)
I was kind of secretive about it, but it wasn't a huge secret. Guests liked them. I was always careful to make sure they didn't take any visibility away from the operators; usually they were behind the cameras or the actual control panel. So the crew didn't mind them. If anything, they thought it was fun to have around.
This started in June and it mostly stayed up for the month of June. Then the park manager came in and threw it in the trash.
The thing is, though, what she didn't realize was, I bought a pack of 20. So I would just immediately put another one up.
Anyways I just found the pack of flags. Here's to pissing your boss off and also HRT. Happy June.
I forgot the funniest part of this story: she (PM) was a complete corporate kiss-ass and Six Flags still fired her. Happy June

really funny to me when i see thoosies making fun of cga for being named great america and being usa propaganda bc i cant lie i lived in the bay for 20 years and worked at cga for 5 and i regularly forget that it was genuinely supposed to inspire national pride. like i know it as a historical fact but like. your average bay area teenager treats cga as their local six flags park (bc it is), and the second largest subset of bay area teenager goes there to make lean in line for mass effect
there are only three remaining things at that park that truly count as usa propaganda to me:
the piano covers of patriotic music in the little city square area in front of patriot
flight deck specifically, a ride which was constructed as top gun (propaganda), ironically in the first era of the park where they truly broke away from the concept of the park being america-themed (as evidenced by like. the entirety of action zone. and survivor the ride specifically???)
they play the national anthem at opening but i've seen a lot more rushing to get paperwork signed off to that anthem than i have seen people saluting to it
btw, i'm sure it was motivated by the proximity to EA, but mass effect famously isn't even american. it's canadian. neither the USA nor canada even exist in mass effect.
given that patriot is a walk-on 90% of the time i'm not even sure it counts. its effects as propaganda are weakened significantly by the crazy downgrade in color scheme going from vortex to patriot. and the fact that it's honestly one of the tamer rides in the coaster lineup of the park

New "thing, Japan" just dropped: posting a video of Eejanaika captioned "We need coasters like this in USA"
like i need you guys to understand that the only rides of this type are in USA, japan, and china in that order. this is an incredibly rare ride type and USA is one of three countries with one.

It says a lot that I have more pictures of my boyfriend mad asf than I do of actual rides at cedar point
Maybe it's because I miss the sun, but the lights of the boardwalk truley are one of my favourite things.
i actually think my most controversial cedar point take is that i fucking love that steel vengeance has lockers, & i don't care how small those lockers are. obviously larger lockers are better, but from working locker attractions, it gets to a point where quantity is what really matters. most guests don't need to store large bags; giving people space to put phones, wallets, keys, hats, and glasses is more than sufficient for most guests. i definitely prefer it to the millenium force strategy of "bring all loose articles on the attraction and hope they make it back in one piece"
the guest flow is a nightmare, though. actual improvements i would make:
larger lockers in the same space as smaller lockers for guests who don't know the lockers are there & how small they are
the lockers are either in the queue or they aren't. isolate them entirely, or have the exit detour to the lockers. or completely force the queue through the lockers like most recent UDX attractions & tron.
the four-way intersection in the entrance side of lockers is a complete joke lol
i've had cameras get bricked by parks that force you to bring loose articles on attractions & don't offer any loose article storage at all; no lockers, upcharge or not, no cubbies in the station, not even "toss it on the floor in the station". so i'm really biased against attractions that force you to bring loose articles with you.
i've also worked attractions that would really benefit from dedicated attraction lockers (my old invert) where we didn't have money or space to install them. so honestly, a park having the $$ to install lockers in the first place is a privilege. i think people overlook that when they complain about having to leave their stuff in lockers lol
torn between "you people will call anything forceless, if you think millenium force and steel vengeance are forceless your sense of thrill has been completely thrown out of whack and you need to spend a year not riding anything" and posting "top thrill 2 is forceless" for the ragebait and logging off
mind you i did not like steel vengeance all that much, i just recognize game
