The way that I love Borderlands feels so different from the way the rest of the fandom loves Borderlands and that's strangely alienating and makes me feel like I'm doing it wrong

i cannot think about the last few missions of bl2 + fight for sanctuary bc i will just explode about mordecai and lilith's friendship. it is so so important to me. mordecai's anger and fear towards potentially losing lilith at the end of bl2 and lilith's worry about him in fight for sanctuary, plus her talking about how he comforted and supported her after roland's death,,,, agh. im so normal about them.

i CANNOT think about how technically mordecai was with roland the longest, since lilith went into hiding and brick was cast out of sanctuary for several years. can't think about how we don't really get any dialogue of anyone supporting mordecai after roland's death. the bl1 vhs make me ill

If I may add to this...

I think the beginning of the Fight for Sanctuary DLC is very interesting, when we see him say "Not making a choice is still a choice". It feels like he's at his wits' end with her, and he hates that. Because she's his friend. Hell, she's basically his kid sister at this point. And I honestly think she's what kept him in Sanctuary for so long after BL2. He doesn't want to be done with her, he doesn't want to be as angry as he is with her, and I think we see that with how excited he is and how quickly he jumps at the potential to work with her again in BL3 that he still cares a lot. The fact that he comforted and supported her while also still trying to process all that had happened himself, on top of being newly sober, tells me he's the type of person that will light themselves on fire to keep someone else warm. He cares so much and so deeply about his friends. But she's quickly approaching the limits of what he can handle. Her indecision is getting people killed. It almost gets him killed. And for sake of not only his survival, but for the others' as well, he has to step away. And there's a real tragedy in how badly he wants people around him that he cares about, only for either bad decisions or bad luck to rip them away from him.

Look, I have feelings about this man, and have done a lot of analysis on his character (I really should write a character study on the BL1 VHs, I have a lot to say). I'm literally learning an entirely new form of media (Writer, learning to draw for the first time in over a decade, in order to make a webcomic) so I can give him an ending that fits and where he's happy and loved as much as he loves others.

there is something so so important to me about the fact that throughout the games, mordecai is presented clearly as someone who cares deeply about the people around him. btw.

like obvs there's his birds, but it's the people that gets me. he's the only bl1 vh who remains close with his group throughout the games. when lil and brick were taken and in hiding, he was roland's right hand for years. after roland's death, he was there to comfort lilith and grieve him with her. hes the one that gives you the mission in bl2 to find the tapes of jack abusing angel, and he's fucking pissed about it. he takes an active role in raising tina, and from the dialogue in fight for sanctuary, it seems like he is the only thing by that point keeping lil and brick in contact with each other. he's also the one encouraging brick to branch out, to get him interests and hobbies outside of fighting as we see in fight for sanctuary (even if brick's gardening still involved violence, lol).

and while we don't get to see their dynamics really play out in the games, from the way moxxi talks about mordecai its very obvious that he loved her deeply even though they were only together for a short time and their relationship ended messily. nevermind the fact that in bl3 mordecai takes up training grace and raising her up to be a vault hunter, and her death hits him hard. we get an entire funeral mission for grace, a character we've never been introduced to, just for mordecai.

idk!!! it's just really interesting to me that as the character who is usually seen as the solitary sort of loner/scout, he actually has such deep connections to the people around him. such a guy

i wanna get HIGH with my f/o, i wanna have weird conversations that we think are brilliant in the moment but are complete nonsense later. i wanna spend the whole morning shopping for snacks and drinks, and the whole evening feeling elevated and giggly. i want him to tell me about his favorite stars! and planets! and i'll draw silly pictures to make him laugh! we'll temporarily forget about the dangers and strife in the world. no weight of responsibility weighing us down. just soft blankets, dumb jokes, and yummy snacks.

on the list of little comic ideas i have, brick comparing me to a dog and mordy being confused and a little irritated about it. 😔

i'm assuming mordy has never met a dog, probably only knows about them because of brick. neither has my s/i, since they've never left pandora, the closest thing to a dog they've ever met is a skag. but yeah brick comments on their doggish personality and mordy is like "what the hell is that supposed to mean"

brick's like "no wait, watch" and calls to my s/i. "yo red!!! you want a TREAT?"

s/i drops whatever they're doing, probably sitting somewhere doodling. head shoots up. big smile. "TREAT?? WHAT KIND OF TREAT!?"

brick thinks for a sec. "uhh...HOW BOUT SOME JERKY?"

"HELLS YEAH, SAY NO MORE MY MAN" fuckin scrambling to their feet, speed walking over, just SO ready for TREAT

mordy still just looks confused but also charmed. shakes his head a little at my s/i, who paused their jerky devouring. mouth FULL.

"whah? WHAH HAPPEN?"

i have spent like...FOREVER trying to figure out how my s/i and mordy met and i think i definitely wanna base it around bloodwing

my s/i is an ex bandit who, after some stuff happened, was like "ahhh FUCK you guys what the HELL, i am outta here" and they end up getting caught by a crimson raider

the raider is a pretty chill guy though, after an immediate fight doesn't happen, he's like "why don't we get you somewhere safe since you're not like...a complete murderer, just come with me" and my s/i at this point is pretty tired and sick of bandit shit and agrees

probably is at sanctuary for a few days, mainly hanging around the raider who brought them in cause they feel comfortable with him and one day, a big scary ass bird flies by and lands on a perch near them

s/i, being an artist and also VERY enthusiastic about wildlife, is like "holy SHIT what the fuck is THAT"

the raider is like "oh god don't get too close, that thing will bite your hand off"

s/i and bloodwing make eye contact for a bit

before s/i can whip out their journal and start sketching, blood takes off

this probably happens a couple of times

one day, s/i hears the bird respond to a loud whistle, decides to follow. funnily enough, bloodwing seems to know she's being followed, sometimes slowing down to see if s/i is still nearby

s/i loses track of blood for a bit but can hear voices and wing beats very close by

turns a corner

sees bloodwing hanging out on the arm of some tall, lanky ass guy wearing goggles and carrying a fuckin sword

he's facing away from them but blood keeps turning to look at them so the guy asks her something, and then also turns

s/i and mordy make eye contact

s/i goes "woag........that is the coolest fucker i've ever seen............."

mordy is like "yo, who tf are you"

and then they were in love forever and kissed and got married and mwah mwah mwah-

Having a comfort character is so weird

Like, oh they're 'not real'?

Well I love them as an entire being who I trust with every ounce of my personhood and soul on such a level that they resonate within me a frequency of comfort and peace unparalleled to anyone who has ever walked this Earth ever
