Y'know, as a long time Salem resident, I can understand the frustration other locals have with how Salem leans so heavily into the capitalist promotion of the witch trials and how tourists don't treat our city with respect. I agree that there needs to be more done to mitigate the way our downtown gets trashed during season.

With that being said, it was illegal to even speak of the witch trials in Salem until the 1850s, or something like that, and the last accused wasn't exonerated until 2022. If people are fascinated by the history and want to move here and talk about their time as a Salem resident, fucking let them. Jesus Christ, have some fucking whimsy in your life, if you don't like hearing about witchcraft and the witch trials in a city INFAMOUS FOR IT, then fucking move out.
