The last line really messes me up. It is heartbreaking because he has been sitting with this notion that he knows he belongs with Elain but she belongs to someone else because of the mating bond. He is literally suffering because of how much he wants to be with her. You can’t get over something like that, especially coming from a guy who’s been in love with someone for 500 years.
I still believe the cauldron didn't give Elain to Azriel because Az was dying. Elain and Nesta ware both Cauldron made equals just like Cassian and Azriel are equals in power each holding 7 siphons. It would make sense if Nesta was paired to Cass Elain would be paired to Cass's equal.
