Seeking Inspiration

A worn notebook and an old pen find comfort on the nightstand. Sun is fading behind the trees, and the smell of freshly ground coffee permeates the room. She turns on some music, choosing wisely and carefully. Something instrumental, maybe electronic for this evening. The notebook waits eagerly in anticipation and the pen wonders what story it will tell tonight. 

She sips her coffee slowly, allowing the caffeine to do its job. Still, she stares blankly at her guitar that is missing a string... "When will I get that fixed" she thinks to herself as she reaches for her notebook and pen. She never knows exactly what she will write, almost as if the notebook will speak to her, hinting at new words she hasn't used yet. 

The music moves her, as it always does and the words begin to flow from the pen. The usual suspects begin to show their faces. Sadness and love in the form of heartbreak control the theme, as if they are coercive tyrants on an unrelenting mission. She changes the song hoping it will invite new inspiration... mission failed. She is convinced now that she is an instrument for heartache to tell it's story, so she gives into the peer pressure and writes another ballad. "One day" she thinks to herself... I'll conquer you.
