"Really? What is it?"
"I swear I'm not a drunk, it was just one drink! And my dad can't know about it.."
"What is it then?"
"I wasn't following you, prmise. It was more of just me being lost, and far too stubborn to ask for directions... I figured eventually we'd get to a place I'd recognized."
"I'm not entirely sure how to explain it - but its not what you think!"
The vast variety of Elizabeth's emotions.
"How did I get stuck here?"
Elizabeth somehow got wrangled into running the kissing booth because the other supposedly had a cold.
"Um...never heard of personal space?"
"Shit, sorry," he said, taking a step back.
"S'alright." Elizabeth said nonchalantly, "Just watch out next time?"
"It is much more peaceful out here," he nodded. "I donāt know if Iād say Iām not a people person, but we do all need our time alone."
"Indeed we do." Elizabeth gave a small smile and shrugged. She took a deep breathe, getting fresh air. "Glad to find someone who agrees."Ā
"No, donāt apologize. A bit grumpy? Well in my opinion we should all get a bit grumpy once in a while. Mind if I ask why you are feeling like that?"
"Ohh Iām Isabelle by the way."
"Ideally, everyone would have their grumpy days. According to my father though, mine come too often." She gave a slight giggle, "I don't know, I think its because my father has been worrying himself sick lately and won't let me make sure he takes care of himself."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Elizabeth."Ā
"How lovely! Iām not used to being of much use to anyone. Iām glad that I got to change that, even if only by a little."
"Thank you." Elizabeth smiled, "That's really kind of you."
"Oh, Iām just going for walk. Iām trying to enjoy this weather while it lasts. What brings you out here?" he asked, before realizing it may not have been the best thing to ask.
"Its away form people, mainly." Elizabeth chuckled and looked at him. "I'm just not much of a people person lately, I guess. I like nature though, always have loved nature."
"Oh," Doyle muttered sadly. He couldnāt imagine having loved and lost at such a young age, especially in a relationship with such a serious commitment. He was hesitant to ask, but he had to at least try to understand. "Can I ask what happened? I mean, an engagement seems⦠well itās such a big promise." When she spoke of the way people talked, he offered a sad smile. "People do like to judge, donāt they?"
"Well, it was set up between my father and his. We were both alright with it though. I mean, he was a good man. He just- I guess I wasn't Ā the kind of girl he imagined marrying. One day he just backed out of the agreement. The court members mainly say its because of me, that I wasn't proper enough for a guy like him. He just, he changed though and no one is to blame for that." She wasn't sure if she was trying to convince him or herself more.Ā
"I- ⦠Iām sorry⦠I didnāt mean to⦠I- I just thought ā¦"
"Iāll go ⦠if you want to be aloneā¦"
"No, no!"
"Its fine, you don't have to, no worries. I'm just a bit grumpy today." Elizabeth giggled, "Sorry. "
"Um...never heard of personal space?"
"Oh Iām sorry. I was a little distracted and didnāt realize how close I was to you."
"Oh, okay..." Elizabeth nodded and bit her lip. Taking a step back she rubbed her arm. "What's got you so distracted, if I can ask?"
"Might it help to talk about it? Sometimes it can take some of the weight off of your shoulders."
"Well.. for starters, I'm only nineteen and had my first divorce. I mean, technically we were just engaged and he left me, but it might as well be the same with how most people in the court are talking about it. " Elizabeth wasn't one to normally care about people's words but when they started upsetting or hurting her father, she couldn't help but feel some shame.Ā
"I⦠thatās understandable. I wish I could help you, but I uhm⦠Iām not very good at that either."
"As strange as it might be, you already did."
"I'm not very used to venting, and that was just enough to feel better... So thank you, I guess." She let out and uncomfortable chuckle.Ā
"Um...never heard of personal space?"
"As long as itās alright with you."
"What do you want to talk about?"
Elizabeth smiled lightly and gave a slight nod.Ā
"I don't know...What were you doing all the way out here?" she shrugged, awkwardly trying to make conversation.Ā
