overpopulation is a capitalist myth. pass it on
housing crises dont just happen. theyre designed.
Everyday people should not take majority of the blame for greenhouse gas emissions
Famines are political, not natural disasters.
overpopulation is not a capitalist myth. particularly in developing countries like the philippines in southeast asia. small land mass but a family can have more than 10 children due to inaccessibility to contraceptives since the catholic church has influence on the laws there. ignorance is a big issue there and overpopulation is a problem so access to sexual education, contraceptives, and family planning programmes should be enforced. I’d even advocate for a one-child policy unless you’ve passed an income bracket and can support having more children due to how it can go out of control there. Poverty is such a huge problem there and overpopulation is a factor
and yes, the housing crisis did happen as a result of adverse selection and moral hazard created by banks through the subprime mortgages. i wouldnt call it designed but the banks’ greed did lead to the financial crisis
I think it’s more how the idea that people need to stop making more people as a solution to resource and wealth inequality is the myth part. The fact that there are population centers way over full is absolutely an issue but it’s all entwined with housing costs and poverty etc. The whole mindset of blaming poor people for overpopulation was formally codified by known bastard Thomas Malthus who argued against charity because you need to let “nature” take it’s course and for the excess population to starve off. That’s the piece about overpopulation that is false. But I’m glad you added your comment because sometimes progressives do have too shallow of an awareness about poverty
Like we’re literally just….endorsing eugenics right now??? Is that what you idiots are doing today? Did you wake up and go “I’m gonna endorse eugenics by saying poor people shouldn’t be able to have more kids”? Also I love the idea that like….being poor and being wealthy are not seen as a result of a purposeful move to literally cause things like famines and starvation which leads to death. None of what that crackhead said was true OR morally sound but I guess we’re Eating At Eugenics tonight.
i meant to say two-child policy, which i edited after 10 minutes posting that thing but this version got reblogged instead. but i just mean a form of population control but yeah, do you have any better ideas than a population control policy to solve the overpopulation problem in the Philippines which has also been a precursor to the neverending increasing poverty rate. and Eugenics is far from what I am advocating for and I dont support that idea so please have better reading comprehension
like there are evidences that population control has helped east asian countries in solving their population problem. Vietnam is an example.
but yeah, go give me a better argument or prove me why i’m wrong. how do you solve an overpopulation problem. to give you an idea of what you’re dealing with:
the Philippines’ population is at 104.9 million as of 2017 occupying a land mass of 300,000 km²
the United Kingdom has a population of 66.02 million occupying a land mass of 242,495 km²
SO TELL ME A BETTER SOLUTION. and yes, I HAVE STRONG OPINIONS on this because I have seen this issue affect relatives and family friends who have many children and little finances to support them. I have seen the slums in the Philippines and how a family can have more than 10 children sharing 1 food to eat so the children suffer. like GO watch Philippine documentaries on poverty before you call me whatever the fuck that is for advocating for population control for a country that has an overpopulation problem. im not even proposing anything in the line of eugenicism like the reach
but yeah, I will wait if you have any BETTER IDEAS. like go change my mind. i am aware of the pros and cons and i think the pros of population control plus access to contraceptives outweigh the cons and there are evidences that support that

it’s wild sliding back into depression when you’re self aware from being through it before because your brain starts telling you all these mean things and you’re just like “wow we’re doing this again huh”
