Hey legit question: why is the GK fandom so prone to painting Tanigaki as an incapable, dependent man?

He’s literally one of the best goddamn shots of the series, as well as terribly hard working man with just ethics. So. How come? What’s the thing I’m missing? Why are people robbing him of his agency, and all his skills?

Sure, Noda likes to throw in a little fanservice from time to time and he’s all the more valid to do so, esp if Tanigaki is his fave character, but what in that fanservice has made it Tanigaki’s sole character trait in the fanon? Other characters get fanservice, yet this is not happening to them at all. Furthermore, Noda depicts and reminds the readers of Tanigaki’s impressive goddamn skills very frequently ( as in, information, negotiation, advice, melee fighting, marksmanship, chores, group cohesion, hunting, tracking, survival? ring any bell?), but it looks like these are overlooked. Isn’t that a bit unfair?

It also doesn’t seem to be Noda’s intention, either. Tanigaki Genjirou’s a tragically underappreciated complex character, I guess. Poor guy...

Hey, here’s a rec of pretty much the only ongoing fic I’ve been keeping up with in the Golden Kamuy tag! It’s the main fic of the Siren AU created by both @xenongazella and myself, written by @xenongazella ! This comprises the main fanfic of the au, carrying a majority of the plot and worldbuilding, as well as a good mix of romances, slow burn or otherwise!

They’re a damn good writer and manage to juggle multiple in-character povs flawlessly, along with a good mix of action, fantasy, and some slower paced, fun moments between characters! I definitely cannot recommend this fic enough, and as the co-creator of the au, I happen to know that the plot and worldbuilding are going to be getting even better soon! ;)
