Thinkin about the emotional harmonics between decaying/inaccessible technology and "magic is leaving the world" type stories. Like say we fast forward 50 years from now and things Do Not Get Better and fuel becomes fuck off expensive and the climate goes to shit and telecom infrastructure crumbles from lack of maintenance, walled garden ecosystems, or AI saturation. It is now economically or technically unfeasible to utilize so much of the advances of the last hundred years. You're going to see far fewer planes if it costs one william dollars to fly in one, far fewer people are going to bother with the internet if it requires paying to punch through 30 subscriptions to make a google search or filter through genAI fodder. It's not an abrupt apocalyptic change, just a slow decline only visible as the years go on. You don't see many dragons anymore, your mom got to see a plane once. The wizard's college is struggling to find novitiates, the internet requires increasingly specialized knowledge to navigate effectively. We don't have the resources to run those medical machines anymore, this requires elvish medicine there's nothing I can do.
