i've seen at least 3 people on twitter saying something to the effect of "ben shapiro agrees with chimamanda ngozi adichie so i know she must be wrong"
like i hate ben shapiro as much as the next regular person but what i hate more is the way people are emboldened to be proud of their own ignorance to the point of proclaiming it on a public platform. to have zero shame about your lack of curiosity or compulsion to make decisions based on your own reasoning or moral judgement. and lbr all of these lefties denouncing chimamanda ngozi adichie know exactly who she is and what she stands for. pretending that she's comparable to ben shapiro in any way is purely disingenuous. but even if that wasn't the case, even if their one and only frame of reference for her writing was "this person i like/dislike disagrees/agrees with her", it shouldn't fucking matter!!! you should want to be informed before making judgements, for your own fucking sake - or if you're going to be ignorant, at least own it and acknowledge that you don't know what the fuck you're on about. nobody benefits from living an unquestioning life. it's a silly comparison, but, i wouldn't walk the plank simply because ben shapiro had declared the ship seaworthy and he must be wrong about all things - i would fucking check for myself! and the irony is that this proud lack of critical thinking is exactly the sort of attitude chimamanda ngozi adichie was addressing in her essay...which these people will never know because they won't fucking read it!!
"obscene" only just begins to describe it

i feel like teenagers specifically shouldnt be allowed on the internet i feel like children below the age of 10 actually listen to adults more an adult will warn them of the dangers of strangers and theyll be like okay wig stranger danger but you tell a teenager to be careful on the internet and theyll go out of their way to interact with every man over the age of 20 on the internet
If u are under that age of like 15. You should not be on the internet.
Too many of the people on this site are prominent examples of what happens to your children when u let them go unsupervised on the internet and don't pay attention to them.
Some of you were not loved as children and it shows.
Not your fault or anything. But you then go on to make it everyone else's problem.
Which leads to e-begging for the validation of internet strangers and anyone u meet in real life. Because you crave the attention you never received as a child.
You got exposed to too much too early and no one cared outside of meeting your basic necessities for survival
You can not handle criticism, different opinions, constantly begging for internet validation or real validation and then cry or throw tantrums when someone refuses to acknowledge you or whatever micro internet identity you came up with or adopted from The Three T horsemen of the apocalypse social media sites.
Tik Tok, Tumblr, Twitter.
Go heal from your childhood trauma. I am begging.
Cause yall are fucking annoying.
hi!! obviously it's not your job to educate a white girl, so feel free to ignore this if you do not have the energy or something. however, as an eastern-european 17yo i don't always know how to best support the women of colour in our community, and that's why i wanted to ask, do you know what are the biggest mistakes white radfems make? and do you maybe have any specific ideas what to do, or what not to do, or who not to engage with on radblr...? i'm just looking for clues, but it's totally understandable if you don't have the time or don't want to reply. i know this question is really... abstract. love your blog, hope you have a great day<3
i think the best ways to support us is to:
listen to us when it comes to issues pertaining to us
look into issues that affect us (misogynoir, racism & how that plays into sexism for other woc, struggles in our countries) to educate yourself on our experiences (this can be done passively thru following blogs that speak on issues relating to, for example, east african women) + be considerate of our sometimes different needs
do not have any tolerance for racists. i dont expect white people to magically know if someone is racist but a lot of the time, racist ppl are called out by various woc & one issue i have w radblr is that white women on here will just.... scroll past it basically
be mindful when it comes to stuff regarding race
don't justify racism, including when its against men. i get it, none of us are fond of men, but racism is wrong regardless of who it's directed at
do not dismiss or belittle racism, and PLSSS im tired of seeing posts where white women act like racism is taken seriously simply bc people virtue signal or dont use the n-word as casually as misogynistic slurs
those are just off the top of my head. as to who to not engage with, i can't tell you what to do there but i do have an entire tag filled w receipts on racism from diff women on radblr. u can go thru it and come to ur own conclusions
if any woc have anything else to add, pls feel free to!! š
also this might a little unpopular but stop using our struggles solely as headlines to own the TRAs like? I mean sure you proved the point that sex based oppression exists but you too didnāt know about Nepali Menstrual Huts up until a week ago... I think thereās a difference between caring and having solidarity with south asian and middle eastern women over just using us token points. Making jokes like tell that to the female fetecide rate in India or how women in Saudi cant even leave their houses without male permission... not cool to me and Iām saying this because Iāve seen it.
Not so much as a woc point but a third world point but sometimes western radfems only care for us as long as they argue a point... make an effort to read up the a 2014 sexual assault statistics from pakistan article everyone shares, see the new developments in local feminist organisations... try to atleast sympathise if you canāt relate.
Sex based oppression exists and white women in the western world are oppressed in the patriarchy, use more relevant and relatable examples cause Iām sure youāll find them and it wonāt be as alienating as it looks.
^^^ yes all of this.
also, the most important thing to me is how white women respond to themselves Being racist - because itāll happen.
growing up in a racist society thereās always gonna be shit to unlearn. it feels horrible to realize you said or did something racist, and we donāt like feeling horrible ofc... but u gotta practice getting thru that.
dont self deprecate, try to not be awfully awkward. if you hurt a woc and feel bad abt it, your feelings of embarrassment isnāt what should be centered. i donāt wanna hear you go on about how horrible you feel, then iāll either feel obligated to cheer you up or feel mean for refusing to. make it as easy as possible for woc to bring up racism - i donāt LIKE making you feel like shit. while racism should be taken seriously, it doesnāt always have 2 be a whoole thing
truly what hurts more than friends being racist is friends unable to take accountability. and i think that when you divide people up strictly into Good and Bad it becomes very very difficult to acknowledge that you have some Bad traits. but fucking up doesnāt change you from Good White to Bad White. this is also why i hate white people making white people jokes, cause it doesnāt do any good to remove yourself from whiteness&racism. obviously thereās a difference between violent racists like white supremacists & allies* but deciding you think racism is bad doesnāt delete ingrained racism from ur brain.
*ally isnāt rlly something u are but something u do
also to expand on point 3. from @menalez
iām tired of āalliesā not going hard out against racism when it does happen. esp IRL or in group chats, when i speak up abt something and get no reply iām not gonna assume ppl think iām in the right. i get itās a difficult topic to navigate and iām saying kinda the opposite as i did above rip, but both a lack of response and a too big response sucks. situations are different lol. what it comes down to is; are you responding based on your own comfort?
are you going hard out against racism for woke points/to feel like a Good White? are you apologizing for your own racism in a way that centers your own feelings? are you glossing over a friends racism cause itās awkward to deal with and you wanna keep the good vibes going? self-reflection on things like this are actions of allyship
thereās this common consensus nowadays that only people w lived experience should talk abt stuff but i fucking Hate that. because while it does lead to marginalized voices being lifted up it also puts it all on them. calling out racism is exhaustingggg and id appreciate it if people would share the burden. absolutely listen to wocās voices but still use your own. and for gods sake donāt pull the libfem shit of refusing to think for urself because fun fact there are millions of woc in the world, the whole āOnly parrot every opinion from ppl affected by the topicā thing doesnāt work š¤·š½āāļø
also racial gaslighting is 100% a thing look it up or send me an ask for further explanation
both great comments on this here!! thank u two for ur additions š
idk if you follow ani twitter/cosplay drama but a famous cosplayer and crunchyroll embassador was outed as a "terf " and weebs are going wild
OMG??? I HAD NO IDEA i never go on twitter
is this it!? i just searched "crunchyroll terf" lmao. what a MOMENT we love to see it actually. actually same sex attracted people rise up!!!
anime terfs rise upš¤š¤š¤
WE LOVE TO SEE IT
QUEEN?
theyāre calling her biphobic too, wtf?
I saw a tweet that called her that and showed the above screen shot as evidence. She litterally says that she would never invalidate a bi womans OSA and just talks about the very real reality that a lot of lesbians face from bi women. Like she legit explains that these bi women parade themselves around as gay women and then participate in heterosexual relationships which is far from what actual gay women do and only serves to fuel homophobes saying that lesbians can fall in love/date/have sex with a man which we have been fighting against for litteral centuries for fucks sake. Nowhere does she openly say that she is biphobic or express ill will twords bi women, shes just calling out the homophobic ones. Which you know, to genderists is apperently being biphobic.
āas of now, i'm dissolving ATS due to irreconcilable differences. @mostflogged is no longer part of or affiliated with the business in any w
Even her clothing brand partner is joining the witch burning, and I bet crunchyroll aint too far behind them. And TRAs think this helps show how oppressed they are??? How many male celebs have said/done problamatic shit and all they get is a pretend slap on the wrist or a "time out" at best? How many of them have their content still being consumed and/or supported? How many still have huge fanbases?
Why is it that this women, when she expresses justified rage at homophobes taking over pride and at homophobic bi women, is put on a stake and socially crucified? Why is that she, along with other women like JKR and even Amber Heard, are the ones that get the physical and real "punishments" and not their male counterparts?
^^^^^!!!
this is the rest of her āinsaneā rant. shes amazing and absolutely went the FUCK off. she absolutely did not miss. its genuinely strange to see everyone talking about it reposting these screenshots where she is so clearly speaking facts and calling her an insane bigoted biphobic terf like jesus christ. people are going to be so embarrassed about this literal braindead cult behavior in the future. iām glad she was able to say this because people are going to see it and agree even if silently for now
iām gonna say it
having teenages and ppl in their early 20s with little to no experience with irl sex, dating and LGBT communities lead online discourse on what is sexual orientation and what labels mean has done incredible damage to our community
so much of the shit that has come out of twitter and tumblr in the recent years literally sounds like a homophobic fever dream but if you dare point that out you will be sent death threats by a swarm of teenagers who have never talked to a lesbian offline
me: online-only LGBT communities end up developing really out of touch and homophobic mentalitiesĀ
online-only LGBT communities:
hot take but- what if everyone here started holding andrew accountable for all the shit he did instead of putting up excuses for it
Okay, so like. Genuine question here. What do people mean when they say to "hold x character" accountable?
Like, what are you gonna do? Yell at them? Tell them what they did was wrong? They're not real. They're fictional.
If the argument is "Hey, creators, don't romanticize problematic behavior." then like, okay, that's a conversation worth having. But that means holding creators accountable. Not characters. Because, again, characters are not real.
I can see why you'd want to prevent people from glorifying bad behavior, but I also see this argument used A LOT to bully people who just happen to like problematic characters. And that's not okay.
I LOVE Andrew! And I have never once bothered with excuses for his behavior; I KNOW a lot of the things he did were screwed up. I simply don't let those things make him a bad person in my eyes. His flaws are just another part of him. And I think that all of them make him an even more interesting character, at least to me. He did a lot of messed up things and I believe he'll spend time after canon trying to fix the relationships he might have damaged. And why'll I know this doesn't excuse ANYTHING, I remind myself he did everything out of love. He also made real efforts to fix himself. So no, I don't make excuses for any of his actions, but rather choose to add his flaws onto the list of things that makes him a compelling character to begin with.
@cakegatedisaster I also really like Andrew! He's probably my favorite character, and a large part of that is because of how morally grey he is, at least when we first meet him.
Honestly, I fully believe that if every character were written as Unproblematicā¢ļø then they would be incredibly flat and boring. Flaws are what make characters interesting.
On another note about Andrew specifically, his flaws are just his virtues, taken to extremes.
He's protective of his family, which leads him to exert a toxic level of control over them.
He is true to his word, which means he will go to extreme or even morally reprehensible lengths in order to fulfill his promises.
He doesn't care what people think about him, which causes him to behave in socially unacceptable or even harmful, self-destructive ways
He lives life without regret, which means he doesn't apologize for the things he does.
These are all arguably positive traits that, taken to extremes, become negative. Which is just good character writing. It's why he's so interesting.
It goes both ways
theyre made by and for the same audience
being strong enough to survive in the wilderness and having abs to show for it isnāt comparable to being a skinny girl in half a bikini whose only purpose is to look sexy for the male audience š
thereās a huge difference between a male power fantasy and objectification of women
call me up when men are soft and deathly skinny and put in thongs and lingerie while women are jacked muscular badasses who could crush watermelons with their thighs and are in functional clothing
Donāt make me upload the comic-book-store-comic about batman
How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man
thatās not even unrealistic, itās completely anatomically proportionate. iāve seen a ton of guys with that body, sports stars and athletes have that body, gym rats have that body, with hard work, almost any male can get that body without surgery and it only benefits them, it makes them stronger.
compare that to female expectations that are largely anatomical impossibilities without surgery and photoshop, require starvation to get anywhere near it, and hold no benefits to the woman, only that men find her more fuckable.
look at the above, then look at this.
(only fine character is the one from a little kids game)
these are all largely the most popular female characters in video games/female characters from the most popular games. maybe you donāt see how warped they are because weāre so used to seeing them, but realise - their waists are the same size or SMALLER than one of their fucking thighs. thatās not normal, if that was in real life, theyād be barely functional. you canāt find that in real life human beings, only with photoshop and EXTREME surgery that sees an early death to the woman. not even kim kardashian, with her fat and silicone injected ass and thighs have bigger thighs than waist (and these are extremely waist tight pants as well)
look at these women then look at the video game dude in opās post.Ā
The fact that I thought āsome of these arenāt that badā before you pointed out the thighs to waist ratio is beyond fucked up. Weāre way too desentisised to these images, and I donāt even play video games!
Men literally have the testosterone to get a body like this through hard work and patience. Having big boobs, big ass, tiny waist is pretty much impossible unless you have the genetic makeup to - and even then, it wouldnāt look nearly as exaggerated as those. Will there be women who find these male characters hot? Sure. But are the female characters specifically designed to be hot, or even fetish fodder and to be made porn of? Fucking yes.
after being raped, do you know what gave me a sense of security? my access to abortion. my access to emergency contraceptive. even in my shaked up state, I knew for a fact: I can do something to avoid becoming pregnant. and if that doesn't work, I have something to do about it. i have the right and the PRIVILEGE, to be able to afford these procedures when and if I need them.
I think a lot about how being assaulted was what essentially led me to understand how crucial these are for women's safety and health.
my heart breaks for all the women in countries, where these important procedures are banned, illegal, or can only be done in a very few cases.
we cannot talk about women's rights and women's safety and women's liberation and womens health, without safe and accessible abortion and (emergency) contraceptives.
