Finding deals on ModCloth (and similar sites)
On December somethingth, 2015, I started a Tumblr called modclothforcheap. I really enjoyed the kitschy, Ms. Frizzle aesthetic, but I could not afford the clothes. However, I did have a penchant for internet research, so I decided to post my findings. I uh, no longer do that. (Incidentally, the username modclothforcheap is now available, if anyone wants it.)
HOWEVER! I realized that not everyone knows the tricks. Since I will no longer be posting deals, here’s how you can look it up yourself, from most to least effective:
Google Image Search*: Save a photo of the item you like or copy the URL. Run a reverse Google image search on the photo, and Google will find other sites that have also listed that item.
Google Lens*: This is less exact—occasionally you’ll get exactly what you’re looking for, other times you’ll get stuff that’s sorta similar or not similar at all.
Search by Brand: If the brand name is listed on ModCloth, then open a new tab and Google it. Often times, you can find the brand elsewhere, although sometimes you cannot. (Sometimes, it is a private design label that has only sold to ModCloth. If this is the case, then go ahead and buy it if you really love it and can afford it.) With shoes, I just zoom into the picture of the shoe. More often than not, the brand and model is listed right on the sole.
Just Browse: This is definitely the hardest method, and unless you’re already a fan of the brand, it can be difficult to find it being sold elsewhere. For this, usually I will just search a description of a dress I like. For example, when I saw the Record Time Dress, I searched “cap sleeve dress with peter pan collar.”
EDIT: *Reverse Google image search and Google Lens are apparently now the same thing. Back in my day, these were two separate functions. Just gonna leave the mistake up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
