The Doctor crouched down to study the mosaic, squinting at it slightly. What had this been? An experiment, a prelude to Manhattan? Or did the Angels have other motivations? Why would they build an entire city -- establish a civilization -- and simply allow it to blossom until its collapse? How had it collapsed? Too many questions. He hated having too many questions.
Meant he didn’t have enough answers.

That feeling of DREAD was starting to wash over him, replaced by a certain confidence -- an I can handle this feeling. Although after losing the Ponds, he wasn’t sure he could handle much of anything. He’d failed them, hadn’t he? His closest friends.
