She recognized that voice anywhere. Roxanne looked over at the woman sitting next to her and she couldnât help but let a smile slip through. Roxanne scoffed and then looked down, âYeah, well, you were like 65% of my impulse control.â She joked with her friend.Â
âWhat? Only 65%? Well... thatâs a little disappointing.â She had been someone who had trained Roxanne and she knew the other was one of the best they had. She had so much heart and put it into everything she did but Ximena wouldnât say that out loud. âYou better not end up killing yourself with overworking or Iâll bring you back myself and youâll never hear the end of it.âÂ
Vaughn shifted his gaze to his momentary companion, his eyes rolling at her response. âPerhaps you should work on volume control, then, if youâre speaking too loudly at inopportune times. We should want sensitive information getting into the wrong hands, now would we?â He swallowed hard, giving a sharp nod of his head. âI can understand what those people are going through, yes. Itâs not as if those who lost their magic are the only ones effected.â
âWhy should I? If I wasnât talking to you then I wasnât talking to you.â She stated calmly with a shrug. Ximena chuckled, âSee.. thatâs the thing. I would be the wrong hands if that were the case.â She was a reporter now and with that came the assumption that sometimes, she was the enemy. Thatâs just the way things were. Not that it bothered her. Ximena wasnât expecting this on her walk home but regardless of the tone of the conversation, it felt nice to speak to an actual person rather to be sitting at her desk writing and editing. âNo, we arenât but I can say from experience, itâs rather shitty thing. Oh, apologies-- there I go with my personal issues again.âÂ
Vaughn stood tight-lipped, his piercing gaze focused on a streetlight in the distance. Heâd gone outside for fresh air, the crisp wind filling him with a newfound surge of energy. Even so, his tolerance for people was limited, as usual. He let out a sharp breath, turning to address a person near. âI must ask that you refrain from weighing me down with any personal problems you may be having. Even I understand that everybodyâs going through something awful right now.â
Ximena furrowed her brows at his comment. She truly was speaking her mind out loud, thinking no one was actually listening. She stopped and glanced over to look at the male, âWell itâs a good thing that wasnât directed to you. My apologies, I assumed it wasnât loud enough for someone else to hear.â She was never someone who spoke about her problems to someone else so Ximena looked down, âDo you really though? You donât appear to have lost your magic.â
Roxanne sat at the bar with her hands extended to show small bruises and cuts. She hadnât lost her magic but sometimes when it came to facing the criminals she caught, wands were lost in the midst of it and hand to hand combat came into play. She had a bruise on her head as well but she felt just fine so didnât pay any mind to it. She probably should go to St. Mungos but they had enough on their plate. Roxie caught glimpse of the other person eyeing her and reached to take a sip of her drink. âI heal rather fast, I think. I figured the healers have more important matters at hand.âÂ
Ximena clicked her tongue as she received her drink after taking a seat. She came in here so often that the bartender already knew what she wanted. Ximena glanced over at Roxanne, âRoxanne Weasley. Always the reckless.â She shook her head as she took a drink from her glass. âYou know, you beating yourself to death isnât going to solve our little dilemma. When I left the force, I expected you to be better than that.âÂ

( she/her & cisfemale )Â
Ximena is the only daughter of Romilda Vane. Being raised by a single mother who constantly had men in and out of her life made Ximena weary of relationships. She never understood when she was little why everyone had a mother and a father and she barely had a mother as Romilda was an important journalist, this meant she traveled often. It only seemed fit for her mother to be among the gossip and write about it.
She hated it, she hated having to travel so often. She often wished she just had a stable home. Ximena doesnât know her father as her mother believes she was a result after a wild week visiting the United States. Ximena doesnât hate her mother but she often finds herself trying not to judge her too harshly but itâs hard when thereâs lingering anger for never having a stable home. Romilda often tends to live in the past, reminding Ximena how good she has it not having to deal with war. She also used to speak so much about the Chosen One, Harry Potter. Her mother spoke of him so often that Ximena canât even stand his name and she didnât even know him until after she graduated Hogwarts.
Being homeschooled and taken care of by care-givers made it a little harder to adapt once she started attending Hogwarts. She was sorted into Slytherin which didnât surprise her mother as she had a way of getting whatever it was she wanted from her caregivers when she was younger. Ximena was in the top of her year with her marks and although many people know of her, she doesnât have many friends. Friendship and respect is something to be earnedâ both ways â and Ximena finds it hard to let down her walls and be civil enough to let people in.
During Hogwarts, Ximena was Slytherinâs chaser as well as a Prefect.
After Hogwarts, went on to become a hit witch as she had that dream for as long as she could remember. She was pretty good at what she did and often helped in training others.Â
Loves animals. All animals. Cats especially. She has her own cat named, Oliver or Ollie.
People often think someone broke her heart and thatâs the reason behind why she is so anti relationships or anti love but truthfully itâs because of everything sheâs seen her mother go through including abuse. The truth is she rather keep to herself than be around people because often times people see her as âmeanâ. She knows she can be over bearing and she knows she can be too much and she is trying very hard to change that because she knows people are not at fault for how her life turned out but again change is hard and sometimes she cares so much and doesnât quite know how to show it.
The few people who she does consider friends, she is very loving and loyal to.
She is constantly exhausted and she knows itâs because of all the anger she holds however she doesnât quite know how to let it go nor how to forgive even years later. Itâs something she is trying to learn.
When she began to notice traces of her magic weakening, she went into a panic. Magic was all she knew. Magic was all she felt she was good at. She tried to pretend it wasnât happening until one day during training new recruits, she couldnât cast a simple defense spell and ended up with a concussion. Her magic was gone.Â
She didnât hesitate to quit after that. She was useless. She could be no help and she refused to drag people down when there was such an immense issue at hand. She wasnât that selfish. Romilda pulled some strings with some former colleagues and got her a job helping write for The Daily Prophet.Â
Itâs a job and sheâs thankful for it but regardless, she feels more empty and lost than before. Ximena has switched herself to autopilot and she knows it. She tends to keep up to date with the news events going on since she now works for the Prophet but she mostly writes about other things to help people keep their minds off what is happening, like Quidditch and news about creatures and so on.Â
