âNope, stop right there. Before you say anythingâ this is just as confusing for me as it is for you. Scratch thatâ this is way more confusing for me. So just- donât say anything stupid, alright?â
âYeah, greatâ âwelcome back to the land of the living, letâs make it even weirder by making you your daughter.â I feel great, thanks for asking.â
Hey, J, give me an IR scan of the room, real quick. - The wall to your left.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
âMy brother may have created a team to figure out my murder, but it looks I chose the right time to kick the can. Iâm glad to see death is still so messy.â
âItâs not simple anymore, ainât that frustrating? People canât die and just stay that way anymore.â
âIâm sorry â can you repeat that?â
âItâs nice to have you back, kid. It just feels pretty weird saying that so soon after everyone was saying it to me.âÂ
âSo you wrecked the President and got a bunch of memory swiped mutants in return. Iâd say, not a bad trade off.âÂ
âNot exactly what I would have liked to get into right after being brought back from the dead, but it was relatively satisfying. Iâll give you that.â
thewxspâ:
âOh, wow. Youâre here. I mean, of course youâre here. They said you would be. You and Agent Romanoff, that is. Hi.â She bounced slightly. âCoffee! Dopamine. I love it and you got it.â Nadia had to strain on her toes slightly to reach a mug. âIâm Nadia Van Dyne. Well, Pym. Hank Pym is my father but Janet adopted me. Iâm talking too much, arenât I? Sorry.â
Her rambling made him smile-- genuinely, too. And not one of the forced smiles he had been practicing lately. âDonât stress yourself, kid. Nadia, is it? You remind me of someone else.â Peter. Tony still hadnât talked to him yet. âBelieve it or not, I used to be young and smart and talk too much. Donât let the world get to you like I let it get to me-- thereâs your piece of unsolicited advice for the day.â
ripleyryansâ:
âI was actually waiting for a thank you here. Itâs not like I resurrected you or anything.â At his request, the blonde sighed before pointing at the table in front of Stark. Coffee, she commanded. âThere. Happy? See, Iâm just here to make your life better.â
âYou know, Iâve been trying this ânew meâ thing where I try and âdo betterâ and not get on peopleâs nerves but right now Iâm not in the mood. Thereâs no way in hell youâll ever get anything resembling a thank you from me.â He blatantly ignored the coffee she had set down in front of him. âAnd if you ever even get near me with that Stone of yours, youâll regret it.â
formerlyfalconâ:
âIâm going to warn you right now that itâs not very good coffee.â Sam was trying to keep his tone light even though there was the double oddity of the fact that Tony had recently been dead and before that they hadnât been on best terms. ââBut here you go,â he offered him a cup. âHowâre you holding up so far?â
âI think itâs a rule that previously-dead people donât get to be beggars and choosers when it comes to coffee.â Tony took the cup being offered. He was trying his best to be.. good. Being brought back was a lot for him but it was also a lot for everyone else. âNot that thereâs much to compare to, but fine I think. I think Nat is handling it better than I am, though. And youâve got the shield now, huh? Steve seems to like leaving it wherever he feels like-- glad it was you that picked it up this time.â
xanndraâ:
ââI do not wish to be rude, but I do not know how to make coffee.â Xandra was pretty sure she had never drank it either. A strange sense of sorrow was filling the air, a telepathic scent she had not yet learned to turn off. âYou are sad.â It was a statement. The feathers around her face ruffled as she moved to sit across from him. âThis is because you died. Anthony Stark?â The Empresses head tilted to the side.
Tony gently waved off her apology, preparing to get up from his seat and get a cup for himself. But her next words caught him off guard. He glanced to her as she sat down, blinking a few times before his brain caught up and he was able to answer. âBeen a while since anyoneâs called me that.â In fact, the only people that had ever used his full first name were his parents. And it was usually when he was about to get scolded for something. âItâs because I died, yeah. Well, I guess itâs because I got brought back after that. Otherwise Iâd be feeling a whole lot of nothing right now.â There was a pause, and then he cleared his throat. âYou see many resurrections back home?â
wreakhavkâ:
âI know itâs not exactly something you want to hear right now, but itâs good to have you back, sir. A lot of people have hope now because of you. Hope for what? Hell if I know, but itâs nice to not have everyone in constant doomsday mode anymore,â Alex leaned against the doorway, a understandable distance away from Tony. If anybody shouldnât be talking to the recently resurrected Iron Man, it was him. But good judgement was never one of Alexâs strong suits.
âAnd coffee â got it.â
At first Tony stayed silent, a bit thrown off by the other manâs words. Usually he would have been jumping at the chance to claim something that was such an ego-boost. But he was tired, and it was easy to give in to the side of him that believed he didnât deserve that. âThatâs nice of you, kid. But seriously, knock it off with the âsirâ.â His tone was light. âI was hoping that there would be less of a mess after I left, but it seems that my wish didnât come true. Iâm not sure what good I am now.â
whitewidcwâ:
âNo, no. Iâm going to stop you. I donât care, and Iâm not getting you coffee. I was looking for my sister.â And instead she had found the other resurrected. Yelena didnât actively have any negative feelings against Stark other than the fact that people seemed to give his death more attention than Nataliaâs, but that was rather moot now. âWe havenât met. Youâre the other one who died.â
âIâm not quite up to speed with everything just yet, but Iâm guessing you must be Yelena.â Tony shifted in his chair, turning sideways and draping his arm over the back of it. âTurns out she did have family, huh? We always wondered about that.â
blackxwidxwâ:
âGuess dying for them wasnât enough then.â Natasha wasnât bitter. Not really. She had made a choice but now had unexpected side effects. âBruce.â His name was a sigh. âIâm glad heâs okay. He just hit a rhythm with his new form. Guy deserves a break.â He had spent two years locked inside of the Hulk because of her. Nat would always carry a sliver of guilt. Her nails drummed against the table, shoulders leaned back to slouch in her chair. âWe did it. Funny, isnât it? We did it. Iâm happy. Donât get me wrong, I am. Itâs just overwhelming.âÂ
âYeah, overwhelming. Thatâs one way to put it.â He replied with a scoff as he clamped his hands together, trying to get them to stop shaking. âDoesnât it feel like we just.. donât fit in anymore? Iâm not quite sure what to do with myself, and thatâs when I--â Thatâs when he spiraled.

Stephenâs expression didnât falter. While he had some guilt about not telling Tony how theyâd win heâd do it again in a heart beat. âIâll choose to take that as a compliment. And as for your next death, letâs aim for something a bit more, mundane, shall we?â He said attempting a joke, though the amount of time he spent in the sanctum only communicating with magical beings for days on end have curbed his sense of normal conversation.
Tony let out a huff of laughter. âYeah, yeah. I can get behind that.â Finally he took his coffee in hand and took a sip. âSounds like the last year has been pretty mundane.â His sarcasm was apparent. âHow have you been handling it all without us?â

âThings have gotten far stranger with me. Pun not intended but welcomed. He said as he levitated his mug back down to the table. He was waiting for this part. The questioning of realities or why he didnât tell him of his death. âTime was a factor. I was searching for an outcome with lower net-cost than the one we had to no time to search for the what would happen more than a year down the line in each potential timelineâŠâ He said trailing off. âAs cold as it sounds, I couldnât have you be made nervous or hesitate. Any alteration to that timeline and the outcome becomes uncertain.â
Tonyâs gaze fixated on the coffee in his mug-- something about the steam rising from it made it easier to focus. The corner of his lip twisted, an almost smile that he didnât quite have the energy for. âI get it.â That was the truth. âWe all played our part. I had reasons to stick around but that would have been real shitty for everyone else.â Tony looked up, managing the sad smile he couldnât muster a few moment ago. âIt was a bold move, Iâll give you that. And it worked. Besides, dying a dramatic death had always been on my list-- I like the attention.â
