He had been a sickly child. In the infirmary often. It took quite a while for his cultivation to develop because of this–which caused him to face quite a bit of scorn from his peers. However, it was in the infirmary that he found his passion in the art of healing. Something about how the Jin healers were able to harness their cultivation into such an important area that was outside of bloodshed, killing, vanity, or wealth drew him to it like a moth to a flame, and he soon found himself spending time with the healers asking questions, and begging to read the books, thristing, hungry to learn.
This hunger stayed with him—even as he was looked down on, even as he continued to become sick, even as his cultivation levels took longer to develop than his peers. But none of that matter—because his purpose was to the art of healing, and Zian was determined to gain respect through this, through an honourable discipline that allowed him to treat people’s ailments—just like the healers treated him.

It was dark inside the room. Cold. The angry glares of his ancestors fell heavily upon Siyuan from where they hung, embedded in the tapestry on the wall. The nursemaid was outside, guarding the door with a dagger in hand, lest the enemy dare toe their last line of defense.
In the dark, barren throne room of the Qinghe Nie clan, only its two youngest successors remained.
Siyuan held his twin sister firmly in his arms. She trembled, her wails and sobs haunting in his ears, her tears wetting his robes. He kept her turned away from the door, an instinctual decision he was too young to consciously comprehend.
He didn’t know which of them came into the world first, and truthfully it didn’t matter. She was his sister. And in this moment, she was his only family left.
Father and mother were both gone. When word of an invasion came, big brother and his friend left, too.
Siyuan recalled the last glimpses he’d gotten of his family; clung to them desperately, as if they’d be his last. Almost obsessively, Siyuan kept his eyes glued to the door. Unmoving, unblinking, even as his eyes stung with pain.
Eventually, yuyu stopped crying.
Her breaths were slow and warm on his shoulder, a stark contrast to the ice of their surroundings. It served a reminder to Siyuan that he was still here—even as his muscles ached and his mind tired, he needed to stay vigilant. Adrenaline ran high and he’d lost track of how long they’d waited. Hours, perhaps, minutes.
Finally, the doors slammed open. Instead of the nameless monsters Siyuan had feared—momentarily crushing yuyu to his chest— a familiar figure emerged, covered in red. For a moment, Siyuan couldn’t recognize the older boy. Then, underneath the dirt and grime, Siyuan saw his brother.
Jiuli approached them wordlessly and Siyuan felt a hand on his cheek. Siyuan recognized the warmth of his brother’s palm, the nouveau scent of copper on his skin.
Siyuan’s arms went lax, his eyes fluttering shut. Finally, he crumpled into Jiuli’s arms and succumbed to a deep sleep.
[ HE ] who wields SHUOYUE. skilled in TALISMAN MASTER and PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY. his ultimate desire? TO AVENGE HIS MOTHER’S DEATH.
sometimes, it is in the shape of bones. it’s in thrill of the hunt, the essence of the terror from a casualty he indulges in that he can’t deny evokes a sense of satisfaction. a carcass that is chosen for picking; a death of an unwilling. but ultimately, the deserved demise of his father that lulls his eagerness.
others, it’s in the form of chaos and disarray; a mumble that thunders and stains, and brings about the unveiling of the truth and the injustice her slow decay brought him to feel. it’s the shadow that darkens the half of his moon; uneasiness burying claws on a certain reality that becomes bloodied, crippled to the repulsive and at last, buried by the consequences of his choices.
the more he thinks about it, it brings a smile to his face.
As we’re approaching our three-month anniversary (whoo hoo!), we’ll be holding our first activity check on April 1, 2020.

A dreamer, he was not.
His mother had instilled within him an unrivaled sense of confidence, which was far grander than his stature and loomed over him. To him, wishing or yearning was futile. Restrictions were created to discourage the majority from achieving greatness, and he wasn’t going to allow limitations to control him. He didn’t crave a position of power or aspired to be revered by people. He would embrace those honors were they to fall on his lap, but self-imposing them was doing a disservice to who he could be.
His father misunderstood him and only voiced his name alongside his brother’s name when directly criticizing him. He didn’t want to be his older brother, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t ambitious. He was going to live his life the way he wanted, and he didn’t expect for him to approve.
The sun rose and set every single day, and he was going to be whoever he wanted to be.

She guesses that she’s learned the best and the worst from her Yulao for the longest time. The soft pad of her footsteps fill the corridor in the small villa within the peach blossom forest as a faint sigh whispers from her lips, her eyes glancing at the clouds above for a moment, the wind lifting the soft tendrils of her hair as she turns, the scent of medicinal herbs permeating the air around her as she lifted the cover of her pot, a soft smile upon her face as a couple of pills rolled out from the pot.
“precious wei’er—are you researching on new medicine again?” the long but obnoxiously loud call from her adoptive grandfather resounds through the aisle, alerting her to his presence just as a soft smile crept up across her face, the soft tinkle of bells resounding from the wind chime outside the door as she affectionately turned to address Yaolao, laughing softly as the bearded old man came in with a black eye and a huffy look upon his face.
“did you get smacked by another auntie again?” her voice was soft and lilting, almost amused as she shook her head.
“all because I refused to cure her son!” Ruyao could have sworn that she saw his moustache puff up and down with each exhaustive breath that he took, unable to stop the laugh that bubbled from her mouth as her master plopped himself down upon the chair like an overgrown child that didn’t get his way.
“say, grandfather.” The soft tinkle of glasses filled the air as Ruyao gently shook out the medicinal herbs into the boiling pot, the strong scent of new medicine wafting into the air as she turned to give a glance at Yaolao, the lightest frown upon her face. “aren’t we supposed to be rescuing everyone as doctors? Why is it that you always refuse to attend to some of them that need help?”
“do I reject them outright or give them a free consultation first?” she doesn’t expects Yaolao to fire back a fiery question back at her, and Ruyao shook her head lightly, her earrings lightly tinkling against her earlobes. “See?” Yaolao huffed again, crossing his arms once more. “The reason why I don’t heal all people is because I’m not all knowing.” He sighed for a moment. “Like the lady that I rejected for instance. Her son was already completely taken over by his illness. Rather than giving her hope, I’d rather tell her that I’d rather not heal her son.”
“And if she blames you?” Ruyao murmured softly, still unable to reconcile with YaoLao’s idea of things. “Aren’t we as doctors supposed to comfort those who need it? Isn’t it our duty to make sure that—”
“Hush that thinking!” Yaolao jumps up almost immediately, wheezing for breath as his face reddened. “There’s nothing about duty being a doctor. If you hold onto such ideas, you’ll just be giving yourself away for more harm. Your parents died this way—being too kind as doctors.” He snorted, huffing grandly once more. “They were empathetic to too many people, and they when they couldn’t heal another, they died for it because of another’s influence.” Ruyao’s eyes fell slightly towards the ground at Yaolao’s words. “If it wasn’t for me making it in time, you would have died alongside them as well.” He sighed. “You’ve inherited their compassion, and while that is good, too much of it isn’t either. Luckily your parents and I had some acquaintances with the sects from having saved a couple of them before. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to secure your future. What would happen to you once I die?”
“I want to heal the whole world though.” Ruyao murmured softly, her hands moving delicately. “And I don’t need no man to protect me.” Her almond shaped eyes glittered with unsaid emotion as she tucked her hair gently back behind her ear. “I’ve already rescued a lot of people. I don’t see why I can’t do more of it. This world has too many good people in it, and too little kind hearted individuals willing to help save those that need it. I don’t need them to be grateful to me—I just want to do a little good in the world before the I actually do die and leave. That’s all there is to it.”
[ SHE ] who wields JIAOYANG and her trusted ROPE DART. skilled in HIGH ALCOHOL TOLERANCE and GOOD COOK. her ultimate desire? TO PRESERVE JUSTICE AND PROTECT THE WEAK.
“why did you steal?”
“do i look like i have another choice?” the child had bitter, dark eyes. first she saw anger, then she saw fear. underneath it all there was desperation and hopelessness.
“there is always a choice,” she replied, once fiercely blazing eyes softening into an inviting candlelight. “for example, you can ask me for the bun.” with that, she released the child’s wrist.
the child stared at wei rao, not understanding. his gaze shifted unsteadily from her face to the bun in his hand. once pristine and plump, the steamed bun now held his finger prints of dirt.
choice was a fine thing…but did he dare to hope?
“if i ask, will you give it to me?” he demanded, afraid and wanting reassurance.
wei rao only smiled in response. “you don’t know until you ask.” sometimes, one must take a leap of faith and make a difficult decision in life. this was one such moment and she should not be the one to help the boy determine his heart - it must be his doing alone.
the child said nothing for the longest time, eyes unblinking and fingers trembling around the bun as if it weighed heavier than gold. wei rao was glad, for this meant the boy understood the importance of his choice. she waited, patient to the point of unnatural considering her usual fiery disposition.
“can i…have it?” eventually, the question was asked.
“yes!” she nodded, smile widening with genuine gladness. “and you will ask me again the next time you are hungry. remember, you always have a choice - i will make sure of it!”
[ SHE ] who wields her trusted DAGGER, LIANMIN. skilled in SILVER TONGUE and NATURAL BEAUTY. her ultimate desire? TO BECOME WEALTHY AND POWERFUL ONCE MORE.
she sits atop, on her golden little pile and throne, with jewels and golden chains wrapped around her neck, shiny and heavy jewels sprawled across her lap and entire room. this is how it was always meant to be. her dress too was made of the finest crimson silk, paid by a sum that most could only dream of accumulating. this, this is what she’s always wished for with an ardent passion.
now she can finally be loved and adored, even respected once more and no one shall ever mention her father’s foolish ways of loosing his old wealth ; she too can carve her name in the stars. thanks to him, she was denied of the simplest pleasures, forced out of her home and to fend for herself. well, here she is now father, bathed in gold that you lost.
look at it all, the glitter and gleam, it’s hers now, all thanks to her silver tongue. they’ll all come to her, she knows that they will and anyone who had been foolish enough to laugh or call her a fool shall see her golden heart and how heavy it can be, and how easy it is to drown a man when he has gold in his pockets.

That being said, we have a few changes to announce:
1. Plot Purchasing: when we made this roleplay, we really liked the idea of making major plots purchasable. However, after writing up a few of our events, we realized the actual implementation of the plot purchase system is very complicated. Therefore, we’ve decided it would be for the best to remove that aspect of the Merit Exchange. We are very sorry if this is a disappointment to anyone!
2. Traits: since we are removing the plot purchasing aspect of Merit Exchange, we are increasing the trait stacking from +3 maximum to +10. In addition, we are now requesting all new trait purchases and upgrades to be submitted to the main using the following format:
This update means currently, merit points are only useful for getting and leveling up traits. Later in the roleplay, we will implement another merit points related feature but for the sake of keeping the surprise, we won’t discuss it much now.
Since we are removing the plot purchasing system, a few of you may be wondering how your character will get involved in the overarching plot. After discussion, we’ve put together an OPEN EVENT asking for some information about your character, including their strengths, weaknesses, fears and ideal character arcs. This open event has no deadline and you can respond to it at any time. Once we know more about your character and how you want them developed, we will approach you with ideas on how he/she can fit into the story line.

yixue married for love. her husband a modest, loving, dependable man with his heart and head in the right place. she lives by a beautiful lake where lotus flowers grow and the water’s clear enough to watch the fish swim in their schools. before she gave birth to their first child she spent her days travelling with him, cultivating together and helping those in need. but now, as she sits by the window, her son cradled in her arms she smiles out over the clan disciples practising their sword skills, pleasantly content with her life. it’s a simple, but incredibly happy one, led by her love for her family and dedication to helping those less fortunate than herself.
when her son’s old enough she’ll head back out to cultivate once more with her husband. she feels free, despite not being able to leave her son for long - she’d have it no other way. each day she carries him through the long grass, the sun bathing them in warmth, and she sings to him. she shows him the flowers, and the animals that surround their home, and she tells him of the exciting life he’s going to lead.

an audible scoff cuts through the silence at the end of his father’s long-winded tirade. the sound had elicited from his mouth after an hour of kneeling, fingers curling into tight fists with anticipation. a split moment passes, and no one comes to his rescue. no one dares to diffuse the situation, and he doesn’t blame them. his father’s anger is his to brunt.
he hears his father’s heavy footsteps, full of uncontrollable rage. his socked feet appear in front of him, but he remains unmoving, teeth clenching with his eyes downcast. his father raises a hand, and there is no hesitation. it hadn’t been a threat, but a purposeful punishment. his father had grown tired of his disobedience.
what he failed to realize was that he was no longer a child. there was no pleasing his father, and he refused to bend over backwards for the old man until he took his final breath. he wasn’t willing to offer unquestionable loyalty to someone that treated others like they were expendable.
palm meets cheek, knuckles meet cheekbone. he doesn’t flinch. he doesn’t bother to lift his hands up to protect his face. he doesn’t cry out or fight back.
instead, he laughs past the stinging pain, finally lifting his head to look at his father. his expression was covered partly in a shadow, and he wonders when the sun had set. his father slows down drastically, but the pain feels unquestionably real. he discerns that he must be dreaming, feeling his heart pounding in his chest with adrenaline.
he moves, at last, taking advantage of his father’s exhaustion to scrabble to his feet. he doesn’t attack back or waits for another strike, but he instead he runs without looking back.
he runs and runs until he reaches a waterfall, lungs protesting and demanding an actual breath. he steps closer to the edge of the cliff, taking several quick gasps until he caught his breath. he reaches up to touch his mouth, fingers smearing with blood. he grimaced at the sight, wiping his hand against the fabric of his robe.
the sound of the roaring waters had silenced his mind, and his chest no longer ached. he took a deep breath before utilizing the adrenaline he felt earlier and stepping off the cliff, allowing gravity to take over. he wonders how cold the water would be, knowing the cold temperature would be a shock to his system. the sun wasn’t out to warm him up when he resurfaced, but he closed his eyes and —
he jerks awake with a soft gasp, feeling completely disoriented. he turns to press his face against the pillow, not caring for the blurriness of his vision. he embraces himself around his waist to shield himself from the unrelenting coldness of reality.

The cultivation world is packed with many great and legendary names, idolized figures. Often, the wayward young man would look into his future with great expectations of what he could become. To lay in the flowers, at peace with a world which broke out into chaos every once in a while.
As he lay there, they called out his name with the title of ‘chief cultivator’ attached. He would smile, gracious to be needed, to be respected for his diligence across his lifetime. Even if he wasn’t blessed with a name or lineage from one of the great sects. Big things had small beginnings.
Ouyang Bin would see to it that the world would be at peace. True evil would not come into power while he sat on the throne. And he would not be corrupted.

Having been born into the Lan Sect with a natural proclivity towards adventure and curiosity, Jianren had difficulty growing as a child governed by five-thousand regulations, feeling sometimes like a bird in a cage, or an unfortunate cosmic joke.
With age, he learned to navigate himself, to suppress his inclinations, and went from being an uncharacteristically unruly Lan child, to being an especially upright example of the Sect’s quietly rigid discipline.
Just beneath the surface, however, boils a lifetime of restlessness, and Jianren only hopes that one day he can find balance between it and who he must be—or choose which side to fall on once and for all.
