PERHAPS IT WAS katrina’s love for the ocean . or maybe , it was simply the love for the creatures which inhabited it , that had the siren approaching a large wish tank . limbs moving on their own accord , the girl had just got out of a class within the science department . & she couldn’t help but stop on her way back to her dorm room to pay the little fish a visit . there’s something of warmness in her expression , an odd mirth which lights up her features . painted lips twisting into a gentle smile , she had been so lost within her own little world , she almost didn’t notice the stranger who stood off to the side . admiring the sea creatures much like herself . “ do you have a favorite ?? “ she asks out of the blue , gesturing towards the tank before them . “ i do , that one , “ she points to a lyretail anthias , it’s pinkish orange hue almost impossible to miss . “ that’s my favorite . he’s a little feisty , but maybe that’s why i like him . & look, he’s just a social butterfly . “ she laughs as she looks back over to 《 @xjiara 》.

Ara spent the majority of her life observing animals and creatures. They made more sense than people and were normally more kind. So, she wasn’t out of place staring at the tank, most people used to the small girl coming by every few days to just stand there for what seemed like hours. Aquatic life especially was something of a curiosity of hers as she’d only been able to shift into a small handful of sea creatures. It took the other girl speaking for Ara to even realise she was there. Auburn eyes blinking at her for a few moments before relaxing. “I like the guppies.” She said softly turning back to the tank. Her eyes flitted around for a moment until she spotted her favourite, her pink nail clinking against the glass for a moment as she pointed it out. “That one especially. Sometimes he comes over and kisses the glass. He’s sweet.”

inha backed up a little more, not wanting to crowd the lizard if it didn’t appreciate being close to humans. they certainly didn’t want to upset the creature in any way. rather, they wanted to offer it their respect.

“does it like… water?” inha asked curiously.

Ara blinked at the other for a moment before shrugging. “I’m not sure. I know he likes cold things so maybe he’d like ice. Honestly, I think he’s just temperamental about everything.”

What was the best thing that happened to you today ?

“I shifted without anyone noticing and trying to sneak a look. Which is always a blessing. I don’t need people watching my body change from one being to another, it’s not fun.”

“Owls. They can fly and turn their necks all the way around. I shifted into one once and it was the most fun I’ve ever had.”

when it came to reptiles in particular, inha had a bit of a blind spot. their familiar took on a serpentine form — so after a while, they stopped thinking of reptiles as something to be cautious around and thought of them as comforting instead. but when ara appeared out of nowhere with a warning, inha withdrew their hand.

“an acid solution?” they asked with a frown. “but that’s so… violent? i just want to be his friend!”

Ara merely shrugged as she dropped her books on the table and looked back at the lizard. “He’s a violent little thing.” It was quite easy to understand the temptation to reach out and pet him. He was cute. Cuter than a majority of ‘animals’ in the room but Ara knew better. And it would just be bad manners to let Inha get covered in acid. “I don’t think he likes human touch. Didn’t mind me touching him as long as I was also a lizard.”

YAYA ALMOST STUMBLES back when the small girl appears out of nowhere . her finger still pointed in the direction of the animal she was just about to poke , while her eyes are wide as if she had just been caught for doing something bad . but , her face falls & instantly , her brow raises in a challenge . “ what ?? “ she laughs , arms crossing over her chest . “ this little dude ?? “ she starts motioning to the lizard . “ but he’s so cute !! it’s not like i wanna hurt the man . we were just gonna get acquainted . ya , know ?? like be friends … “ the ghost tries to explain before going silent. squinting while she observed the other . “ wait , how do you know that ?? “

Ara moved around to the table without looking up at the other. Merely just listening to her speak as he laid down everything she had been rummaging for. If nothing else she looked bored but she sort of always looked bored when she was around others, getting her to be animated was one of the largest challenges in the entire academy. “I’ve been studying him.” She answered with a simple shrug. Opening the lizards' cage so he can scuttle back inside before he got testy. “Plus I shifted into him a few days ago and accidentally ruined a whole pile of books. So I know it’s not nice acid.”

“I wouldn’t touch him if I was you.” Ara popped up from behind a far too large cabinet as she spoke blinking at the person in front of her. Apparently, it was a few decades ago that the academy had reinvented one of the old herbology classrooms into a sanctuary for a whole host of animals and Ara spent most of her time there. The creatures were more entertaining to talk to than other people anyway. She blinked at the other one more time before pointing at the brightly coloured lizard on the table. “He’ll spit an acid solution into your eyes.”
