❝ stop and stare ▪▪ yixing & kai ❞
*/ he’s so immersed in his work that he seriously doesn’t notice the presence of anyone else in his laboratory, even when kai speaks yixing doesn’t quite hear him. it’s like something taps on his shoulder, something otherworldly and forthcoming, telling him yixing pause for a while, yixing there’s someone beside you / kai— */ he blurts out before he even looks at who it is. and sure enough kai is standing there and his question resurfaces from yixing’s memory / oh. … sure. */ he puts his work on pause and hangs his labcoat up before tugging down on the hem of his shirt and patting his pocket to make sure his keys are there. yixing leads them out and closes the door. then they’re walking down familiar hallways, underneath plain ceilings / … hey, what time is it?
[ --it takes a while for Yixing to react to him calling the other male, but Kai doesn't mind. Yixing, in his eyes, is slightly peculiar, but more of in a positive way than not. Yixing's mutation is one of those whose mutations Kai cannot seem to comprehend, but he supposes that something which pertains to the mental can affect the way people think and react in social situations. it doesn't take long until Yixing reacts anyway, and he blinks at Yixing, before curving his lips into a smile to greet Yixing. he watches as Yixing takes care of his lab utensils, and tails Yixing when the latter leads their way out of the laboratory, down the hallways. ] It's just a little past twelve. Are you hungry?
【Missed My Stop】
Oh, crap.
He pressed his face to the window, staring with wide eyes out at the endless blue expanse of water that he was passing over. Suddenly, he wasn’t sleepy anymore.
In the midst of his onset of panic, the announcement system beeped, which was then followed by a pleasant female voice saying "The train will be arriving at Baekseol station shortly."
Baekseol? Myungsoo knew he’d fallen asleep and missed his stop, but he didn’t think he would have missed by a few good hours! And Baekseol was cold! He was so angry at himself, but he couldn’t do anything about it, so he slumped in his seat and sulked until they reached Baekseol.
Obviously, the first thing that hit Myungsoo when he got out of the station was a gust of cold air that practically froze him wear he stood, since he was nowhere near dressed for winter, and other people looked at him as though he was a lunatic. He checked when the next train heading to the Institution would be and it was… Three days later.
Now he was truly hopeless. Myungsoo shoved his hands into his pockets to try and keep warm, and he when he looked up he caught the eye of another man across the street. He guessed his gaze must have conveyed some kind of desperation because the stranger was making his way over.
Myungsoo nodded at him, unwilling to take his hands out to wave. “Hi.”
It felt a little like a scene that he would read in books—normally in romance books directed towards female audience between age twenty to forty if not older; the kind of cheesy and cliché stories written with feminine eloquence and purplish descriptions to dazzle those women instead of a teenage boy like him, but owning a bookstore meant that Kai had more time than enough to actually read those books, and he did sometimes. And this event, with him seemingly standing there at the train station while perusing as the train boarded to Sanya, was nowhere near flattering although it was something often depicted in those books. Watching as his loved one went away, and knowing that the waiting clock started again soon after.
Waiting is excruciating, he’d been told. He couldn’t agree more.
But there was no use for him to burrow himself too deep in the reluctance and reminders of the other male’s company, lamenting the absence. It wouldn’t change a thing, he tried convincing himself, and so he decided to leave soon after. His steps to the exit was ceased by the presence of someone who seemed lost, perplexed by his whereabouts. He caught the stranger’s gaze and was frozen on his spot, unsure as to what to do, but he found himself making his ways towards the unknown male. “Ah, hello,” he replied, smiling amiably. “Is there anything that I can help you with?” He asked, before noticing that maybe the man didn’t know Baekseol at all, for he was certainly too underdressed and seemed truly discombobulated by the place.

[ --there were missions to be executed and a few days when staying at the base was necessary, so he hasn't returning to the bookstore for a while. unlike other stores which open on a regular basis, he loves leaving his bookstore unattended for a while since he would be summoned for an important business trip every now and then. besides, there aren't plenty of people who would miss the place anyway; books aren't extremely on demand these days, especially books which come from a decrepit store tucked in a city constantly covered in snow. but it's home for Kai, so as much as he loves staying at the base and getting to meet someone who's really dear to him, he misses returning to it eventually. and so he does. when he does, though, there isn't much of food supply left in his kitchen, and he craves for something sweet. the renowned chocolate shops pops into his mind and he doesn't delay heading towards it, entering the store which always smells like cocoa and is filled with the sillages of the customers. ]
❝ stop and stare ▪▪ yixing & kai ❞
[ --there's one malicious defect of his regenerative healing factor which Kai resents, and it would be the absence of ability to heal him from fatigue. not that it's a wound or a disease, but it would've been nice if it could, for the day so far has been spent with somnolence, and he doesn't even know as to why he still squanders his time at the base while he doesn't have any mission to fulfill. something at the back of his mind tries reasoning with him, telling him that maybe there can be an emergency, or maybe a briefing for the next mission. but it reaches mid afternoon and there is no task relayed to him, leaving him unemployed and bored out of his wits. he decides grabbing some lunch early, then, but having lunch by himself seems too lonely, so he wanders towards the laboratory and hopes that his friend is there. his expectation is fulfilled--Yixing is inside, and so he approaches the other male. ] Yixing, would you like to grab some lunch?

you wake up each morning with shaking hands, searching. you forget the sound of your father’s voice. you think it was around the same time you gave up your bones to silence, as though you ever had a choice. you breathe, you sleep, you pray. you find bruises on your knees you don’t have a name for. you catch a boy’s eye, set your heart on fire. you burn the quiet edges of your rice-paper skin, shame licking your wrists like gasoline. you wonder what your mother would say if she saw you, barefoot and lonely, hands held up to the moonlight. it’s a test. it’s all a test. you stay up till four in the morning on your hands and knees, scrubbing ashes from your sheets until your nails bleach white, wondering if this is it. you turn your pillows inside out with frantic hands and think of your father’s promises, not knowing what it is that you’ve lost, only that it’s gone. sirens wail outside your window and you almost scream, In here. in here. in here. there are no miracles. it should have been more beautiful than this.
