“You think so?! I was impressed people still care about archery to be honest, most people would rather to train someone to shot a gun instead. It’s not hard at all; it’s just pulling a string and aiming.” he paused for a moment thinking “Okay, maybe is a little more than that, but nothing that any average person couldn’t do with some training. I can show you if you’re interested.”
“I’ve never really cared much for guns myself, truth be told,” he admitted. It was something about them, though it was hard to place. Sure, they could be used for good purposes, they could also be used for the bad. Even if David had nothing to fear from the weapon, he still didn’t much like the sight of one. “Of course, that’d be great. I’ve never actually seen a bow in action before, surprisingly.”
“That is wise of you,” Shiva replied, lifting her eyes to his face, as if just noticing him for the first time, “I am not often wrong.”
“I guess it’d be best for me to simply take your word for it, then.” It was quite obvious that David wouldn’t want to argue with this girl in the future, no matter the circumstances. Though he supposed becoming acquainted with her wouldn’t hurt. “May I ask for your name?”
“Ohmigod, twinsies! That’s what I always say!”
“Anyways, here’s what’s up: you’re gonna get in the laundry basket and I’m gonna push it down the staircase. Your job is to not fall out or die or whatever. Cool? Cool.”
“I can promise you I won’t do much dying, but for the falling out part we’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t want to make a promise I can’t keep,” he said with a chuckle as he made his way into the basket. He wasn’t quite sure why he was doing this, but then again, why not? Once he had situated himself within the basket, he took a deep breath, and braced himself one final time. “Alright, I’m ready.”
Patsy looked over his outstretched arm and it was probably her imagination but his skin looked stronger. She felt her hope rise over his story. He had given himself powers and obviously it had not gone as intended, but he had done it. Technology was the way to go for her! “I know it doesn’t seem like it is a good thing now, but it probably will be. Besides, the fact that you could save lives (including your own) is amazing.”
David hated to admit it, but she had a point. Though he liked to look at his new found power as if it were a huge downside, he knew that it had the potential to do some real good in this world. Even so, he still wished he had never received them in the first place. “That may be so,” he agreed. “Though had the virus been completed, it may have saved countless more lives.” Like Kelly. Though he knew that it was best not to argue with someone trying to help out, so he quickly agreed with her once more. “But I know you’re right. Maybe now I can make even more of a difference than I would have in the first place,” he lied. Or at least, he felt it was a lie, though he knew that there was a possibility that he was telling the truth. For now however, it was impossible to know.
Hiro was pleased when he heard what programs the other boy was in. “Really? Cool.” The smaller boy laughed at David’s statement. “Nah, I guess you don’t really have to ask. Science is definitely one of the programs I’m in. But I’m also in psychology. Not because I’m too interested in it or anything, but if they didn’t give me enough work, I’d probably get bored and just stop going to class,” Hiro confessed. “It’s not as cool as power training, though.” He shrugged as he continued climbing stairs. Boy, did he hate this. He should have turned back on the jet pack. Once they drew nearer to room 501, Hiro started to get a little sad. He figured it was getting close to the end of this particular encounter. Still, he’d make his time last. He didn’t want to ask about the boys powers anymore, because he didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. He tried to think of something that would be a safe thing to ask. “What kind of science are you mainly into?”
“Nanotechnology, for the most part. Or at least, I was, before the accident. I suppose I still am, though I have not yet delved too deep into my research ever since. I guess I’ll start again soon, though it will most likely be a few days,” he explained as they continued their venture to room 501.
Guten Tag
“Nanotechnology” Kurt repeated slowly. “V’at sounds intense.” he said. Then after a short pause Kurt chuckled. “Yes I suppose I do look like I’d have powers. My ability is that I can teleport v’ut I also can fence and in the circus I v’was a star acrobat and contortionist.” Kurt confessed.
“Impressive,” David admitted. The description of the boy’s powers fascinated him. “But when you say teleport, how exactly does that work?” He then proceeded to point towards the nearby building that housed the many students of the academy. “Could you teleport over there? Or is the teleportation circumstantial?”
“Nope, not too hard to find at all. I know exactly where that is, follow me,” Hiro said as they entered the building. The smaller boy began trotting up the staircase, holding onto the railing to the side. He looked up at David as they went along, trying to think of something that he could say. He knew he wanted to talk to the older boy, but he didn’t know about what. So, he’d do what came naturally. He’d ask him questions. “What program are you in?”
Once the two of them had entered the building, the conversation began to grow quiet. This didn’t last long however, as the younger boy asked yet another question. David didn’t mind the questions, in fact, he welcomed them. “I’m in Science and Power Training. But if I’m being completely honest, I’m mainly here for the science portion,” he admitted with a slight laugh. “Do I even have to ask which one you’re in?” he joked. David was almost certain that Hiro would also be in the Science program, given what he had seen from the boy thus far.
This ain’t a Scene
Kori nodded, but she thought it might help if he had a friend so she hopped on next to him an threw an around his shoulder and whispered, “What song did you want to sing I could help if you are nervous” she offered.
Holding the microphone away far from himself, David responded to the girl in a hushed tone. “You see, that’s kind of my problem at the moment,” he admitted. “I have no idea what to sing.”
Guten Tag
“V’what kind of research?” Kurt asked.
“Nanotechnology, for the most part. Well, there’s that and of course actually learning more of my powers,” he explained. “Anyways, what do you do? I mean, you certainly look like you’d have powers.”
“Oh, damn, there goes plan A.” he joked pretending to be disappointed. “What’s next then? Is jumping out of a plane no parachutes on your list? Jokes apart, for real your power is really cool, pretty useful.”
David laughed at the other boy’s joke. He had to admit, the idea of jumping out of a plane with no parachute was quite thrilling, even if painful. Though he’d try to avoid the situation, if he were to someday fall out of a plane, he’d at least enjoy it while it lasted. “I imagine yours is as well,” he stated in regards to the other’s archery talents. “I’ve never met an actual archer before, truth be told. Is it difficult ? Shooting the bow, I mean.”
Guten Tag
“V’well that is quite a long story” Kurt said rubbing his neck again with his free hand. “My adopted Mother v’was part of the circus” he began. “So for a long time I had a home there but to give an abbreviated version things changed and I needed a new home where I might fit in and continue to learn about the world outside of the big top” he finished. He knew there was more to the story but it had been a long journey from Bavaria.
“V’what about you? V’what brings you to Novus?” he asked his guide.
“That is quite a long story,” he repeated with a chuckle. “Though I suppose I can shorten it down a bit, for now.” In a way, David felt that his entire purpose for leaving New Jersey was to get away from everything. To leave the past behind him and move on, like none of it had ever happened. But he also knew that he wasn’t giving up. He wanted to make something of himself, to actually live a life worth saving. Kelly would want that for him. This however, he kept to himself. “I’m mainly here for research,” he lied. Well, it was more of a ‘not telling the full truth’ kind of thing. True, he was here for research, but there was more to it than that.
“Really?” She had so many questions, but the way David looked down she thought she maybe shouldn’t ask. “Well I’m sure that is the kind of thing you don’t need to worry about for years. Until then think about all the awesome science you can do. So what type, uh, focus do you have?” She asked even though she really knew only as much about science as she had picked up half-listening in class.
She was right, he truly didn’t have to worry about it for years. Even so, it was always there in the back of his mind. He tried his best to push his worries aside and continued talking. “I mainly work with nanotechnology,” he explained. “That’s actually how I received my powers in the first place. I had created a nanotechnological virus capable of extensive tissue repair. I hadn’t intended for it to be used on me, but there was an... Accident.” He then held one arm out in front of him as he walked, rotating it as he examined it. “You may not be able see the nanomachines, but they’re in there, all throughout my body, keeping me alive."
Guten Tag
Kurt listened and his gaze followed where the boy pointed. He felt relieved that it was not far. He nodded and gave a grateful smile flashing a hint of a fang. “Danke” replied Kurt as he shifted the weight of the bag on his shoulder. “and nein that is alright I can carry it just fine” he added with a polite smile.
“Alright, but the offer still stands. Just let me if know carrying them becomes too much of a burden.” Though the walk would be a short one, David saw no harm in conversation. After all, he wanted the newcomer to feel welcome. “So, what brings you here to Novus?” Though David had a pretty good idea of why the boy with blue skin and yellow eyes was here, he figured that asking was the polite way of going about it.
“Immortality? Cool stuff. Can you take a bullet and not die and this kind of shit?”
“That’s right. It’d still hurt a lot, though. So don’t go shooting me just to test out your theory, alright? Becoming a pincushion isn’t exactly on my to-do list.”
“Powers huh? Mind if I ask what you do? If you do mind ignore I asked. I can’t do anything. I wish,” she wished so bad her chest ached if she thought about it too much. “I’m just here for the agent training so it’s all physical combat for me.” Which she found she enjoyed. It felt good to know how to properly punch and to feel the bag move when she got a kick right. It was still a work in progress, but she felt good finding more use for her body than just shaking pom-poms.
"Well, considering you gave me an answer, I think it’d only be right if I gave you one back,” he stated, though his smile from before had faded. “I’d hardly call it a power, in all honesty. I simply cannot die.” He stared at the ground in front of him as they walked, lost in thought. He had yet to decide whether this immortality thing was a gift or a curse.
