callie glanced at the papers spread out, which she just realized and was slightly surprised by them. that and surprised because of how she only noticed it when they were pointed out. “do you really think it’s odd? because i don’t. you should be happy if you’re happy. who cares whether or not people think you’re weird for that?” upon hearing her name being called, she went right up to it quickly before coming back to her to continue their conversation. “how old are these kids? i get it though, you want the kids to be a bit more independent and not have to continue asking the parents to do all the work. right?”
She shrugged her shoulders slightly. “I am happy. Just because someone isn’t always smiling, it doesn’t mean they’re not happy. Some choose to keep their happiness internalized.” She hesitated. “Everyone has their own view of what’s appropriate and what isn’t, dependent upon how they were raised and who they were raised by.” She eyed the homework and smiled a bit. “They’re kindergarten students, and they don’t have the guile to lie... Yet. I don’t mind when parents collaborate on the homework with their children to help them better understand it but times have changed a lot since we were their age. It’s not about playing and taking naps anymore. By the year’s end, they’re expected to know how to read and write.’ She wouldn’t get into how Common Core was to thank for that particular bit. It’d made school harder for young students who, in Serenity’s mind, simply didn’t have the mental acuity to understand. What little they were able to showcase mostly consisted of parroting. She tried to make it fun and easy for them but when the parents were doing the work for their children, it made her job harder.
