Sat alone by the bar, Katie-Lou sipped on her rum and coke- half wondering if Max was actually going to turn up. She couldn’t help but be a little bit brutal when he did show up and apologise for being late; “Yeah, well it wouldn’t be the first time would it”.
“So what brings you back? And not to go all 20-questions on you, but why’d you wanna meet up with me of all people… especially after last time”
Max sighed and nodded when Katie-Lou said that it wasn’t the first time that he had showed up late to a meet up with her. It was true, but it still hurt to hear her point it out. Max wasn’t the best at time management, his life was a bit of a mess, and stuff would ofter get in the way of him being somewhere on time. “I had to settle an argument between Sam and Kyle. I’m sorry.” His younger brothers had broken out into a huge fight right as he was about to leave the tiny apartment.
“I came back to visit my family. Ryan is in the hospital, and Zach has his first fish this weekend. All of my siblings have something going on, and I guess I missed them. I had the time, and enough money to buy the plane tickets, so I came home.” Max went to law school on the other side of the country. “I wanted to see you, because… Well I missed you too.”
Katie-Lou put her all into trying to keep her cool, but she had always had a soft spot for Max. “You were the one to break things off” She reminded him as he confessed that he had missed her. As much as it made her heart melt, it hurt. “You’re not allowed to say things like that anymore”
