For clarification for my Americans that try to tell me that the confederate flag is a symbol of the south, it’s not. The confederate flag was created as symbol of the confederate states. The creation of the confederates was essentially them banding together because they were fighting against the abolition of slavery. That’s it. That’s literally all the fucking meaning behind it. @ everyone in the notes talking about physical performance: if that were the case, then sports would be divided by physical performance. that’s a thing you can measure. that’s a thing that varies by individual. a weak man and a strong man would be an unfair fight in boxing/wrestling/MMA, which is why they divide those sports up into weight groups based on physical performance. but they also further segregate them based on gender. chess is segregated by gender for no reason but sexism. if it’s actually about skill and physical ability, then measure those and separate people by those metrics. don’t do some bullshit gender segregation and pretend like men and women are inherently on different levels no matter their individual abilities.

The pay gaps, not to mention lack of sponsorships for women athletes who don’t look like models is insane. If you weigh over 250 pounds, no one will sponsor you. It’s why most female Olympic-class weightlifters live in poverty/out of their cars.

Why are those disqualified overwhelmingly black and brown? Because testing is case by case when an athletes performance “raises suspicions”. They overwhelmingly test athletes of colour, for being too fast and not meeting white expectations of femininity.

I think I’ve said it before on this post but I’ll say it again. In more normal times I run a co-ed soccer work league. People in the league have skill levels that range from beginner to excellent regardless of gender. Skill level is not correlated to gender at all. Some of the best players in my league are women (and the guys fight over when it comes to dividing up female players at the beginning of the season). 

Last year before I got sick I was sometimes running three games in 24 hours (double header one night then a game the next), while some of the grown men around me who went through college on soccer scholarships were done after one game. Now I’m terrible at the game but overweight, short me was running better than some of the guys who look like carved Greek statues come to life. Now that’s a function of endurance, but in addition to that I was running on a field with guys a foot taller than me and with women who were my height and in roughly the same shape. I never felt unsafe on the field running with the guys, and the women around me didn’t either. That’s even including the actual injuries we received during play. I’ve gotten a concussion and other women have been knocked around during play - but so have the men. One doesn’t step on the field expecting to never get injured, one does so expecting and consenting to a reasonable and acceptable level of injury. Sportsmanship is separate from endurance or skill level. Any guy who tells you he can’t play with a woman because he’s worried he’ll hurt you is either utterly insecure in his masculinity, unaware that women can survive a friendly level of play, or unskilled enough to be able to control his own play on the field. Some of the guys in my league are good, some aren’t, the same with the women. Skill is both innate talent, dedicated (and opportunity) to develop it, and attitude. It isn’t gender, no matter what anyone tries to tell you.

Now one exception I can think of is American Football. I have no business being on the field playing that - but on the other hand there’s a robust conversation going whether anyone is truly ‘safe’ playing that sport. Any other sport though, any that involve skill and training and technique, women can play with and on the same skill level as men.

Literally the conversation me and my friend were having about sports a while back. The only time we see it as crucial to split men and women are in sports that are full contact such as rugby which we play. Like for instance I'm already on the smaller size and no way in hell would it be feasible to play against men in rugby, but why tf is chess and surfing segregated ?

You see the first push that Roman gives the player and it doesn’t really register at first. Pushing each other was common for the sport and Roman played with a level of aggression that you were used to seeing by now. 

It’s the second and third push followed by Roman’s gloved hand coming up to grab the guy’s jersey as he pushes him back into the boards that really catches your eye. 

You stand up, leaning forward to try and see what the issue is, and it seems the rest of the Kohl Center takes notice then, too. The refs are quick to step in and pull Roman back, but you know he’s already got himself a penalty for the way he’d shoved the other player around. 

As Roman is being escorted to the box you see the other player skate by, tossing one more remark at him. It makes Roman turn, trying to pull away from the ref, but there’s too good of a hold on the #13 jersey he wears.
