@xrebel-princess
no one calls you honey when you’re sitting on a throne.
indie canon divergent princess barynia of tes legends. feat. handmaiden ocs. multiverse, multiship, semi-selective. sister muse of (and follows back from) @xsilver-wings ——— as penned by alix

“The Order of the Spotted Clover. Elder Prote wishes to speak with you about a possible… collaborative effort concerning your attempts to retake the throne of Wayrest.”
Mac usually did medical jobs, but when the situation called for it, diplomatic jobs were a great way to pay the bills.
“You’ve attracted the attention of powerful, yet secretive individuals. I’ll meet you at the Spotted Clover Inn, one of our safe houses.”
❝SOUNDS awfully convenient that your superiors are... secretive individuals,❞ Barynia mused, crossing her arms. This could very well be a trap — it sounded like a typical lure. Still, could she risk not going? Could she risk ruining a potential ally? She was desperate to get her kingdom back.
❝DO you expect me to come by myself or am I allowed to bring one of my ladies in waiting?❞ She asked rather innocently. Barynia would not go anywhere alone, even if she could handle herself. Bringing Mara with her would make her feel safer — having someone to watch her back. Together, the two of them could do more damage than a handful of guards if things turned south.
“Excuse me, Madame? My name is Mackenzie, I’ve been asked to bring you to my superiors.”
❝AND who would your superiors be?❞ Barynia questioned, her chin tilting upwards in an air of defiant royalty. Who was this person to think that they could just come in here and tell her that? She would not go without a better explanation — and even then, she might still not go. It could be dangerous.
My name isn’t Clara Just Me. It’s Stahlbaum. Clara Stahlbaum.

Barynia had given the girls the day off. Zépheryine didn’t really understand why, seeing as she had no one to celebrate it with, but she didn’t argue about it. Instead of staying in the city, however, she had traveled just outside of it and found herself sitting in the middle of a patch of wildflowers. She figured that while she might not have anyone to romantically spend her time with, she could do something for her princess and her sister. So, she was making some flower crowns.
With one flower crown done — full of pink and yellow flowers — and resting atop of her own head, she started on a second one. This one she used blue flowers mainly, throwing in some white ones as well. This one would be for Mara. It would suit her, she thought.
Zella had made it halfway through the crown when she heard a twig snap not too far from her. Her head jerked up and she searched the area but saw nothing. She hoped that it was just an animal, but just in case, she called out, ❝Who’s there? Show yourself!❞
Barynia wandered the city streets, reveling in all of the decorations and the fun that everyone seemed to be having. One of her guards followed at a safe distance, as she had given her girls the day off. It was Heart’s Day, after all. Mara had tried to tell her that she didn’t need the day off, but Bary insisted. One of the perks of being a princess was that when you insisted, people generally listened. So Mara just sighed and decided to accept it, as there was no changing Barynia’s mind.
She found herself stopping at one of the stalls, staring at all of the jewelry that was displayed. The man behind the counter tried to sell her a beautiful amethyst necklace, but seeing as she didn’t have the money for it, she decided to pass on it. When he tried to be persistent, going so far as to tell her that a pretty girl like her needed a pretty pendant like that, she simply said no thank you and walked off. She didn’t appreciate his tactic, but she understood that he was just trying to make a living.
The streets were crowded, so when she turned to walk off, it was no wonder that she bumped into someone. ❝Oh! I am so sorry,❞ she apologized quickly, realizing that she had been the one in the wrong.

“Right. Even.”
She was smiling, kindly enough, so there was nothing to worry about – right? Bah, people were so confusing. She could never understand any of them from a cursory glance. Even studying them deeper did little to betray any of their thoughts. The only thing she was getting was that the stranger was pretty.
Unfortunately, her hesitance did little to deter her companion, who came barreling into the picture the moment she’d hoped her conversation was over. Gold eyes, ruffled fur, tail wagging back and forth exuberantly – Bjorn immediately nuzzled his way at the stranger as though they were the best of friends.
“Tst!” Her hiss stopped him from placing his paws on the stranger, but not much more.
Mara’s eyes widened and the woman jumped back as she was suddenly approached by something. It happened so fast, she wasn’t exactly what was going on until she caught a moment to let her brain catch up. Looking down, she noticed the creature who had approached her, nuzzling her and trying to get her attention.
After examining it for a moment, she bent down so that she might scratch behind the creature’s ear. ❝Well hello there; what is your name?❞ She questioned out loud, figuring the stranger would introduce her pet.
Although she didn’t look like it, Mara was fond of most animals — well, so long as they weren’t attacking. When she had been younger, still living in Wayrest, she had had a pup as a companion. It had become lost during the invasion, and Mara wasn’t sure if he had lived or died. She hoped, of course, that he was living comfortably, but it seemed very unlikely in the state that the Kingdom was in.

Town – cobblestone – close quarters – snow, wind… they were all things with which Neoma’d had hardly any experience before coming to Skyrim. She’d once had lava humming as rivers by her feet – once been warmed by a coarse sun – once laid in a field of ash with no nearby visitors but the guar. But those days were long gone, and… this was the world she was in.
Still – it was a world that was rather hard to acclimate to, after a lifetime of the opposite.
She hadn’t been quite watching where she was going, and now she’d barreled over some poor stranger. Her hands went out to steady the other, automatically, on stranger’s shoulders in a way that almost looked as though she’d been trying to pickpocket.
“No, it was my faul–” It took about that long for her to realize the placement of her hands, and to pull them away. “Uh. Ancestors, uh– sorry.”
Hands on her shoulders — that was one of the first things that Mara noticed․ She was steadied but was there more to it than that? Her body instantly tensed, her blood running cold as if ice were running through her veins — and who’s to say it wasn’t?
The woman pulled away almost instantly, but not quick enough for Mara to not be suspicious of her․ Having been on the run for so long, Mara had become wary of nearly all strangers․ And yet, she did her best to keep a smile on her face․ She was as diplomatic as ever․
❝It is of no worries,❞ she told the woman․ The smile on her face suggested that she was friendly while the look in her eyes suggested she was to be approached with caution․ Mara scanned the woman as discretely as she could manage․ She was taking in the other woman’s appearance as well as checking that she hadn’t tried to steal anything from her․ ❝Perhaps we are both at fault․ Shall we call it even?❞

❅ Mara had been given the day off. It had, honestly, been so long since she had had a day off that she truly did not know what to do with herself. Zella was watching the princess, who was content on staying in today as she had been feeling quite ill.
Windhelm, which was where they had been staying for the last month or so, was not a picturesque town. It was cold and damp, but then, Mara had grown accustomed to such things. Northern High Rock was not much different from this. Still, it didn’t give her a lot of options of things to do.
After a while, she had decided on some shopping. She stopped at Sadri’s Used Wares and gotten some potions and whatnot that she thought might aid in her princess’ health. Upon leaving, however, she seemed to bump into someone.
“My apologies,” Mara said as she made sure that all of her wares were fine, “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
“Sometimes you’ve got to do what you think is right, and damn the consequenses”
