“I can’t take a chance that I’ll be disowned right now. I wouldn’t be able to support myself, and I won’t leave my younger sister to fend for herself yet. I also don’t want to risk my family lashing out at him and his family. I don’t know if I could live with myself if something happened to him because of me.” She could feel tears forming in her eyes and quickly blinked them away. Tonight was supposed to be a happy time to forget about her troubles. It seemed she could put them at arm’s length at most. Andromeda took his hand for support and offered up a small thank you. “You’re willingness to help is what counts. I appreciate it. It’s Ted Tonks. I’d give you something sweet to tell him, but then he wouldn’t believe it’s me.”
Ted bit on his bottom lip, not sure that he should respond to that. What could he say? Though he was feeling rather positive he knew who he was talking to at that moment. Did she know it was him? He wondered...he didn’t think he had done or said anything that would give him away, really, but if she was who he thought she was...she was the smartest person he’d ever know. If anyone could figure out someone’s identity at this crazy, carnival-esque party, it’d be her. He smiled lightly. “Sounds like a lot to deal with for one person,” he said, very gentle. Sudeenly, though, his eyes widened. Either she was being cute and teasing him a little, or it was just great luck that she’d found him. “Why wouldn’t I believe it was you?”
