I love thinking about all of the stupid little things skk know about each other.

Usually I’m talking about the big things; they know each other’s souls, their fears, their weaknesses.

But they know also the small things-

Chuuya knows that Dazai rolls around to self-regulate when he gets stressed

He’s seen this behaviour before, even though the reader hasn’t. Dazai has never let himself be vulnerable enough in the presence of any of the other characters to do this in front of them.

This one is less obvious and more of a headcanon, but we know Dazai’s a whiskey guy, and not a particularly picky one at that. So, why does he know about Pétrus and it’s price?

Dazai knows a lot of useless things, but he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy to hang on to information about things he doesn’t care about. This led me down two lines of thought:

A- Chuuya has mentioned it and Dazai remembered.

B- Once Chuuya started showing an interest in wine, Dazai went away and learnt all that he could so he could know about something Chuuya cared about not look stupid show Chuuya up.

Dazai also knows Chuuya’s breathing patterns…

That’s such an intimate thing. Yes, he’s talking about when Chuuya’s fighting here, but it’s extended past that. He probably knows how Chuuya sighs when he’s tired vs frustrated, or the nuances of each time he laughs.

It’s the small things that I’ve been pondering today, the facts learnt between battles of the body and mind, the boring things that you come across when you learn someone inside and out.
