Reflections on Turning 29
I don't recognize the girl I was ten years ago, and I think if I met the girl I was five years ago I would sit down and have a long talk with her about how the guy she was hung up on at the time wasn't worth the trouble he caused. I'd tell her to buy all the wacky shirts she wanted and pour her heart out a little more often. But I've started taking more risks since I've realized we're all just winging it.

The one where I think about how much I miss you
I wear my grief like a second skin, or it wears me, dragging my body over the ground and I feel every bump and dip and sharp corner. I slink up against the walls of my house, begging it to peel away from me, trying to melt it with hot tears and rage and a grab bag of the turbulent mess that I am. And then I try to be gentle with myself, watch a story about a girl who gets whisked away by a magic castle, but all I can see are the memories of you swirling around in the darkness in my room, when the light hits my face just right no one can see the tears but I can feel them angry and warm on my cheeks. The days tack on, they come and go, and I am left to wonder if I will ever shed this grief that clings to me so dearly. It is not dear to me. When will it unravel and let me go?
