Trapped in the Crosswave

I could probably work on this and redraw it,,, 4 more times,,, to get my exact vision. But I really like this! An entry for Scent of Steams contest! Mostly drawn to Recalibration. I love the heartbeat like thud that echo's through the song. I was binging Trapped, The Tower, The message, and Crossed Signals while drawing this. Characters are Ray(She/They) and Valt(He/It) from a book im writing.

Honestly this is mostly just centered around a mutual frustration I have with both the gay and furry communities-

You guys know our first communities formed in kink and fetish groups right? You know that right?

Like yes of course queer ppl been around longer than that but the first real places we had to go where we could reliably meet up and hook up and all that were in kink spaces.

The first fursuiter was a man named Robert Hill, also known as Hilda the Bambioid. Hilda was a sexy Dominatrix Deer character! It was a sex thing from the start. Some of the oldest furry artists (meaning furry as a subculture! Not just anthropomorphic character. Theres a different and I recommend you learn it. Mickey Mouse is not a furry.) were making fetish content from the word go.

Sexuality has always been a big part of both the queer community and the furry community

So WHY am I seeing so many people downplay it and insist that "Only Freaks Care About That " and "REAL members of the community care more about the wholesome side-"

WHY am I seeing y'all shame queer people (especially trans women) for existing as sexual beings? WHY am I seeing y'all pin furry NSFW as something evil? WHY am I seeing this huge push back against kink and sex-positivity? WHY am I seeing purity culture being pushed in some of the most (as we've been described by outsiders)"impure" communities?

A trans woman will simply elude to the fact that she experiences sexual attraction and you guys jump at her throat for it. Y'all would NOT have survived the leather bars of the 70's and 80s. Weak ass generation. Y'all claim to know our history but your knowledge of our history seems to start and end with stonewall. You don't know shit about our history, you don't know our iconography, you don't know about the Lavender Menace, you don't know about the Hanky Code, you don't know about our first communities.

While you're harassing people on the internet over the most useless of queer discourse- the cishets are trying to take away our rights. They don't CARE about us. They don't care how squeaky clean and digestible we are to them. They want us eradicated because we are an easy target and you're LETTING IT HAPPEN.

A good portion of today's queer discourse was started by Trolls and TERFS for the specific purpose of causing upset in the community and you guys choose to perpetuate it without considering who you're hurting by doing so. Masc lesbians are a part of your history. Transexuals are a part of your history. Drag is a part of your history. Kink is a part of your history. You have to respect it, even if you don't like or understand it.

Just. Stop trying to sanitize queerness. Stop trying to sanitize the furry community. Stop trying to appeal to the cishets and normies. Stop hurting your queer siblings in the name of a fight that was started by a terf who would just as easily call you a slur.

All you're doing is erasing our history.

I feel like a lot of tall zim truthers ignore a really important fact of Zims character, especially in ZaDr circles. Hes short. Exceptionally so. This is a primary conflict for him when it comes to interacting with the Empire. And no, Zim isnt discriminated against just because hes defective. His shortness plays a huge role in that. How do I know? Because Skoodge is nearly the same height as him and is treated the same way. If anything Zims defectiveness keeps him from treated worse than Skoodge because the Tallest are afraid to be near him.

Zim is SHORT and that’s important because it effects how hes treated within the empire.

And Zim growing with age doesn’t make sense either because the Tallest are canonically THE SAME AGE AS HIM.

And if you make the argument that mature Irkens are just exceptionally large,, well 1. thats just provably false because we’ve seen mature irkens and we’ve seen an adult Zim. And 2. Why? Why do you feel the need to scale them to be even taller? Whats wrong with Zim staying small?

I see the argument around a lot that it makes Zim look like a child if hes still small as an adult in comparison to Dib who obviously would have grown but like..? Hes an alien. Irkens are GENERALLY quite short. Shorter than the average human in the show. They literally exist on a physically smaller scale than humans. That doesnt mean theyre children. There are adults who are under 5ft tall. Theyre not children. Is a 20 year old who stands at 5 ft 0 in a child? No. What about if that 20 year old 3ft tall?

No, they’re obviously still an adult. Infantilizing literal BODY TYPES of REAL people for shipping reasons is gross as hell and it is STILL body shaming. Short people can have romantic relationships without their partner being a predator.

Zim being short does not make Dib a predator. Shipcourse has rotted your brains so much that you fail to realize that 1. This is an ALIEN. He will look different from a human at maturity because he is NOT human. And 2. Short people can have romantic relationships! Shortness does not make you a child. Being below 5ft with a tall or even average height partner does NOT make your partner a predator.

You would not call the partner of a short person a pedophile irl. You guys are just projecting a fake problem onto art that just gives you the ick simply because you don’t like it.

AND It’s totally okay to have a preference for taller zims- but its just that. A preference. Its not canon.

Its directly opposing canon if anything. Please stop trying to force a personal preference that directly contradicts canon onto artists. Theres literally no reason for it. You’re just being mean.
