Something in the Wind || Bramstein
She plucked on the strings of her guitar. Beds of her fingers ached with the pattern of a new song. Sally felt a special connection to it in her mind and body, so she found herself compulsively reaching for her instrument.
It was late. So late she should have stopped hours ago, but that was the thing about sleeping less and less... she could chase her whims all night long. A pause in playing let the wind howl through the crack in her window. A howl she was familiar with, the one that swished through the willow tree and wove through ancient stone. A harmony of moans usually followed. Her house and the morgue underneath lifted up and breathed in time with the weather. Sally felt so alone in her stillness until she heard wailing not belonging to the wind, willow, or herself.
Creeping up to the window of her bedroom, Fang shifted and she commanded he rest. Something worse than the screaming filled the night; silence.
Sally took a practiced leap and recovered by scraping the earth off her knees. It didn't take long to find the source, Bram, lying curled and unconscious.
"Bram?!" She stumbled to his side and shook him with cold hands. "Bram, what happened? Fuck..." She tilted his head back and tried to rouse him before looking through the cemetery. Had someone attacked him, had his powers torn his mind to shreds? Was it the angry undead acting against him? Sally couldn't know anything for sure until he woke up.
She pulled him to a sitting up position, "Wake up, Bram!"
The pair of them sat lonely in a chilling graveyard.
@headless-bram
There was nothing but static.
Brams mind swarmed with the black and white mixture of whatever substance makes your fingers and toes feel like they were falling asleep. The nerves were asleep though and his mind could od nothing but sit in it.
Sit in that same static that swarmed his brain.
Bram had grown use to it over the years. An excuse for his ailment if nothing else.
It felt like his body was being sat up but his chest still convulsed against the hands that held him. Each thrust of his body was matched with a gasp for air. It was a battle between his body and his mind. A battle between the static and calm.
Hearing his name against the static though felt like a shock to the heart. Yet as he tried to grab for it the static took over again.
Bram needed someone to ground him.

"Oh! Well like one other time." Bram nodded as they walked out of town hall to head across town.
The one time had been a pretty big deal - or so he thought at least. Clearing a mans name so he could finally rest was something from a movie and the mystery of it all was lit and bad ass af. Right? Bram figured most people would think that shit was cool.
"I have been hearing the spirits or whatever since I was little af but I never really did anything with it." He offered up. "My family wasn't fond of my abilities so I didn't get to do it much."
That was easier than going through the real story.
Waiting for traffic to stop so they could cross the small intersection Bram pulled out his phone and scrolled through his camera roll. Scrolling and scrolling until he found the news article from the Boston Harold - Spring of 2024. Clicking on the photo he showed it to Kovu.
"I kept getting visits from this spirit who ended up being charged with a murder he didn't commit." Bram pointed to the headline. "With his help I ended up getting with our local police and cleared his name." The article was more in depth than what Bram had shared. In reality he helped clear this names name and prove that it was his sweethearts ex lover who committed a murder suicide - which was blamed on him. "I uh helped him cross over."
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
Kovu could understand why his family hadn't exactly been thrilled about the power. Even hearing about it now gave him the shivers. Talking to the dead...Kovu wondered what his dead uncle would have to say. And then, immediately, decided he very much did not want to know.
What about his stepdad? Again, not a conversation he was interested in having. Because he was a coward.
That left the first man he'd killed (who he hadn't really killed...).
Yeah, it was best to let ghosts lie.
Besides, as a lawyer, he wasn't sure a ghost's testimony would really hold much weight, would it? A ghost had never been used as a witness, he was pretty sure...but maybe he should do some research.
It was nice, at least, that the ghost had gotten some justice.
"Damn, I mean...that's good. That's what, uh, mediums do, right?" He'd only vaguely heard that they were there to help spirits that were lost or angry pass on before they became ghouls or whatnot.
@headless-bram
Bram never really thought of it that way. Was that really what the point of a medium was? To help ghosts?
They didn’t just speak to the undead or whatever it was? Do some chats with someone’s dead sister?
Crossing over just seemed to be what he was drawn to.
“I suppose you’re right…” Brams face was twisting into a scowl. It wasn’t at Kovu but just at his lack of knowledge about anything and his gut feeling to not want to learn. “Never thought of it what way..”
The black old metal gate of the Swynlake Cemetery had grown use to Bram. No tricks or getting stuck - gripping the cold iron he pushed it up and headed down the worn sidewalk between the resting.
“It’s that big marble thing in the center right?” Brams face looked back to Kovu as they single filed. “Or is that some other important family in town…”

Beneath the Willow Tree || Bram (Lyons Saga)
Date: Dusk - 10 July 2026 Summary: With stolen pages from the Town Hall archives Bram comes face to face with the spirit who has been haunting him. TW: epilepsy, death
Town Hall really had this rancid smell of dust and mildew. Maybe it was just the archive department of the fact that all of Bram's senses were warped. Sweet tasted bitter. Fresh smelled musty. It was just something about these old books that just wreaked to him. Truthfully Bram had grown use to it - shit he probably started to smell like them too with how much time he was spending amongst the pages. A nice mix of cigarettes and mildew. Sick. Ledgers covered every table. Baptisms to death records. There was some property deeds thrown in there too. No clue why he pulled though. None of this shit meant nothing to him even if it was a Lyons. There had been so many he really only could focus on one. Her. Layla Lyons.

Oh, great.
Kovu was not thrilled to hear that Bram's hauntings often were "exciting." He very much did not want to get possessed by his ancient ancestral spirit or whatever. Though, he was sure his mum would just love that. She'd probably use it for proof that he was the chosen one.
And maybe it would mean that...
He knew that should be what he wanted and it was...but he just wasn't sure he was ready for the confirmation...right now. Maybe in another year or so. When he felt more prepared...
But no. He was here now, because his mother believed him prepared enough and he didn't want to disappoint her.
"And how many times have you done this before?" Kovu asked, hiding his nerves behind a smooth veneer, as they started in the direction of the cemetery.

working summer
Seamus squints into the sun, shaking his head to get the hair out of his face. He was helping an elderly woman in the Woods with her fence – someone who he'd....somehow befriended in his trips into town – and was currently knee deep into it.
That said, he couldn't hold this fence post up, get nails and a clamp, AND hammer it all into pkace by himself.
Seamus sighs, then glances to the side when he sees a shadow pass him by. A sharp whistle calls the person's attention, and Seamhs grins crookedly at them.
"Couldja gimme a hand 'ere? Real quick like, promise."
Bram was out with Bones on their daily run. The gym had been far too crowded and well...he didn't feel like running into anyone. Which was why and out door run was his best option. Why? Well because he could pick his route and run away from any fuck ass people he didn't want to see.
So today his path took him through The Woods.
Just as he hit his third mile he felt the hair on the back of his neck stick up as a high pitched whistle pierced his ears. Wtf.
Bram looked over his shoulder and saw some rather elderly man in a bit of a snafoo. Sucks to be you dude.
Of course instead of just continuing on with his run Bram decided to be a problem.
"Yeah see it looks like you got yourself into this mess. Don't you feel like you can get yourself out of it?" Bram said sarcastically face twisting into a smirk. "Plus if I helped you what would you learn about your mistakes so far..."

"Oh here we go." Bram rolled his eyes and let his head hand back.
There had been a moment where he gave a fuck what the people were saying about him and the end of Mim. A mere second and then he didn't give a shit about what the people around here really thought - as a whole.
"What has everyone been sayin? Cause not a single person has asked me about the damn thing." Bram was happy of that because he would put a boot in whoevers ass wasn't minding their own business.
"Not that I blame them." His eyes looked over to June and he shook his head. "I am not much of the relationship type turns out." His brows rose and fell. "Mim doesn't know if she wants a lap dog or a life plan." Both of those things were true in his mind.
"We can only fuck so much before it becomes just that. Plus shes chasing after the boy band these days. Leaves me free to do as I please."
Brams eyes squinted in a bizarrely sarcastic fashion as he looked back to June again with a twisted smile. "That good enough of an answer for ya or do I need to bare my trauma over drinks." The last thing Bram wanted was to talk about Mim to June... @june-von-drake
Everyone was saying that Bram wasn't good enough for Mim.
Everyone was saying that she got bored with him.
Nothing that Bram said suggested any of that was wrong. Though he acted like he didn't care either-- and hey, maybe he didn't. Maybe he'd just be with Mim, knowing it was going to be temporary, and he'd squeeze out what he could before moving on. That sounded like most dudes, who got with a girl mostly to fuck them, and then moved on when they got the itch to fuck a different girl instead. Even when they claimed to love you, June was skeptical that they were being honest with themselves. Dudes were like dogs: designed for the chase.
Honestly? June was designed for the chase too.
Which was why-- she was also losing interest, Bram's answer revealing no new info, no juicy tidbit that June could chew on. So cool, sometimes a break-up was a break-up and could only sustain a few blog posts on their podcast's website.
"Well, as sexy as your trauma might be," she teased him, "no, I don't want to spend the whole night talking about Mim. I want to dance," she said. "Are you gonna dance, Van Blair or are you gonna sit at the bar and be boring?"
@headless-bram
“Never heard someone call trauma sexy but do you.” Bram rolled his eyes.
Someone like June would probably hear the horrors he had lived through and call him a pussy. Just get over it or something. Not out of rudeness but Bram just knew that June didn’t put up with shit like that probably. Then there was the years of his own toxic upbringing where he too was just told to suck it up. Fit the mold and stop being demon fed.
Whatever. Bram wasn’t going to unpack even if June begged him.
“There’s about a hundred things I’d rather talk about than Mim.” His falsely flashed a smile. Not that he wanted to talk about her but smiles were foreign. “Who’s Mim?” He joked.
Dancing though - not his thing but the idea of Junes body against his. Fuck he couldn’t that opportunity up.
“I’ll dance - we just need a few drinks first.”
He reached to pull the door open for her and held out his card.
“Go start a tab on me.”

The Dead Won’t Stay Filed | Brovu
Bram figured Kovu was locked in on the mystery of it all. They were a fourth of the way into figuring out the story. Or well...thats how he would judge the amount of work that was done. A woman and her resting place. That would have been like two clues to Nicholas Cage in National Treasure.
"Oh well I mean figured you'd want to see if this led to something else." Bram shrugged. There was no way in hell he was going to beg - that shit was weird af.
"Another mind is always some help." It was another shrug that followed first.
Truthfully Bram felt a little disappointed that Kovu wasn't ready to move onto the next step. They were really hitting it off and in a world where he didn't have many friends this guy wasn't too bad.
"Plus if you come along man you can make sure to let someone know if this spirit fucks me up." That was a bit of a joke - but Bram was unsure what Layla might do.
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
The first point Bram made: no.
Kovu did not wanna know what happened next, even if he now felt inextricably tied to this mystery. At least until they could rule out that it wasn't a Lyons trying to communicate something to Kovu.
The second two points, however, were more swaying.
Another mind would be helpful, he was sure. And they could solve this a lot faster with the two of them.
And, yes, Bram probably shouldn't be going out to a graveyard looking for a vengeful ghost alone. What was Kovu gonna do against a ghost? Not much, but he could, at the very least, run and get help. Bram still was, until the end of the school year, somewhat Kovu's responsibility.
It would look good to town if Kovu came out of this looking like a hero.
"Okay, yeah. Just as some back up for you," Kovu said.
@headless-bram
“Right on man.” Bram flashed a small hopeful smile.
It felt like a real friend moment. Which was rare in the world of Bram. Not that Kovu was gearing up to be a best friend ready to grab some beers. It still felt nice to have someone to buddy up with.
“Let’s get on then yeah?” Bram tucked his notes into his back pocket. “While we’ve still got some daylight.”
A half laugh followed next. What he had to say was serious but he didn’t want to sound like it was too much of an issue.
“Less of a chance we get heckled with the sun still up.”
Stacking a few of the books back up he headed towards the counter. Handing over the rest of their archives and documents- the last thing Bram wanted was some white haired librarian chasing after him with a late fee.
Meeting back with Kovu by the front doors of Town Hall he met him with a better looking smile now. Less nervous. “Every other time I’ve done something like this…” which was once before “it turned out to be hella exciting.”

"Well, that's a symptom of living in Swynlake. Everyone turns into a drag unless you get your vaccines," said June, flashing a mischievous smile at him.
June feared that one day she'd lose her immunity too-- her sharp edges ground down by the twee, fake cheeriness of Swynlake's magical tourism schtick. She didn't mind that she was born here. She thought it could add to her legend-- hotel heiress raised in her own fairytale castle away from the rest of the world, until she climbed out of the tower and carved her way through Europe. Definitely more iconic than growing up in London or Madrid or whatever.
And you needed a good story to be a champion. It was as important as your talent.
But-- she'd never be that champion if she stayed stuck here. She found it interesting that Bram felt stuck too. He seemed like the type to never want to leave his hometown, or like, the type who tried but was already dragged back. Which, for him, meant... Boston? Philly? She didn't remember, just thought his accent was cute (not that she'd tell him that).
"Though I guess that's also what happens when you get dumped," she said. A beat. "Is that what happened? That's what everyone's saying. Mim dumped you."
Maybe she shouldn't neg him, but she was nosy, sue a girl. And she wanted to understand his headspace. Was he looking for revenge?

Downstairs? Now?
"Jesus christ, not giving a girl any heads-up," June spoke out loud-- Marcy wasn't here right now, so it didn't matter. She huffed, rolled her eyes, but then rolled out of her bed.
Thankfully, she was very hot, so it didn't take much for her to doll up. And Bram didn't deserve more than low effort anyway, considering he was springing this on her and, potentially, hoping to use her for some kind of cheap rebound.
We'll see about that, she thought to herself. She hadn't decided what she wanted to do yet.
But free booze? She always wanted free booze.
She let her hair out of its messy bun, ran her brush through it and then stripped out of her sweats, tossing on an old mini-dress. As for make-up: she swiped a shiny light pink lipgloss over her lips and dabbed a little glitter over her eyelids. That was it. Five-minute glow-up. Not everyone could pull it off, but June von Drake was not everyone. She had practice with spontaneous nights out. All the von Drakes did.
She heard a knock on the door.
"HOLD ON," she called-- even though she was more or less ready.
But she wanted to make him wait.
She took her time picking out some shoes-- settling on some white sneakers that instantly dressed down the look, but again, she didn't want Bram to think she was trying to impress him. Then she grabbed a purse and made sure she had her ID in there.
She opened the door and cocked her eyebrows at him. "You're lucky I was planning to go out tonight anyway," she said.

Bram looked up and shook his head.
"You woulda looked good in baggy sweats give me a break."
It was true June could make a paper bag look good as shit.
"Lets get the fuck outta here." His head nodded - Bram was itching to get the hell on so he could finally feel that ice cold beer hit his lips and ease whatever the fuck he had going on.
Shoving a hand in his pocket as they walked his eyes shifted towards June a few times as his mind wandered to his Tinder pictures. The words he wanted to ask were never going to come out. Not like June would tell him anyways. Their friendship was something of convenience mixed with tension...and his need for her in his life.
June had that thing about her that he couldn't shake.
So his mouth finally broke its silence.
"Beats drinkin in my room by myself." He coughed nervously. "Everyones been such a drag lately." It was half true - more so Mim was a fucking drag and everyone else was lame as hell anyways.

Blindswiped || Blair Drake Project
Was Bram trying to grab a drink or was he trying to hook up with her?
June tilted her head as she studied the text-- and the ones that preceded it. She knew he was lying, but everyone lied after a break-up. If she asked Mim, she wondered if her lies might match with Bram's. We weren't that serious. I'm not the relationship type. Or maybe she'd be more brutal and want to clearly lay the blame at someone's feet-- not her own, obviously. Mim was more like June than Bram, that was obvious to like, anyone.
She wondered if Bram realized that. Being unconsciously drawn to baddies was not a mark against his character, she supposed.
She pursed her lips, breathed then and then sighed. If she asked May, she'd tell her no way, Bram was so far below her league. April might tell her to have fun. It was just one night anyway.
June picked up her phone again and shot off a text.
June: At Pierrot? June: Only if you're buying :P @headless-bram
Bram wanted to get the fuck out of town. Hanging around locally meant people could see what the fuck he was doing and more voices to end up on June and her sisters little gossip thing. Pierrots was closer and less hassle.
Plus he had this gut feeling that if he pushed to go somewhere else June would say no and he would be stuck with no plans.
So he gave in.
Bram: aight. Bram: of course I'm buyin.
Bram had a job and he knew how the ladies worked. They looked hot while the guys bought the drinks. If he didn't provide the bank roll to keep the juice flowing...she would no doubt find someone else who would.
Bram: meet you downstairs.
Assuming she was in the dorms just like him he pulled a large black tshirt over his wife beater and grabbed a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Throwing Bones a busy bone he nodded to guardian letting him know he was staying here. No objections.
Taking two stairs at a time he headed down to the ground floor. Ready to see June. Something about her made his skin crawl in a good way and he would be lying if he didn't go look at her pictures every so often.
Fuck.

Heh. Right.
He supposed it tracked that someone like Bram sulked around graveyards. It seemed almost cliche for a medium, but he supposed there was always a truth in the cliche.
The thing was: Kovu was not the kind to go sulking around a graveyard. No thank you. Besides, there was no one there that he wanted to see. The only grave he might want to see was his stepdad's but-- well, that was a shallow, unmarked one somewhere, he was sure.
Besides, his stepdad had no love lost for the son that had been passed off as his own.
"Uh--I mean...I dunno how much help I'll be," Kovu said, trying to wiggle out of this. Though, if Bram pushed, Kovu knew his manners would force him to go anyway. If only so Bram didn't get murked by some angry ghost of Kovu's ancestry.

Why was June always difficult.
Bram huffed as he gripped his phone and stared at the words that popped up.
Bram: I asked if you were trying to go do something.
After hitting send here the old iPhone hit his chest and stared at the ceiling. Was he speaking a different language or was this just how June was.
Yet before he could even get a response he snatched up the phone again and started typing.
Bram: plus shocked to see ya on tinder. What happened? Dropped the bum?
@june-von-drake
June cocked a brow at Bram's first text. That wasn't what he said, at least, not what she read, but...whatever. She didn't speak public-school-educated American, she supposed.
Looks like someone's a little lonely now that he doesn't have a girlfriend, she thought to herself, pursing her lips.
Both her brows raised at the next text, sent on the heels of the other. She wondered if Bram had seen those pics. Maybe, just maybe, she'd taken it down before he did. June sat up, tossing her hair before texting.
June: Something like that, yeah. June: He was boringggggg June: What about you and Mim? What happened there, lover boy? @headless-bram
Good.
That was his initial thought. Just good. June didn’t need to be with some fuckwad who golfed? Was that what he did. Didn’t matter.
The question about Mim didn’t even cause a reaction. Every inch of him was numb to that topic. Bram didn’t give a fuck about that or the time he wasted. There would be more girls.
…like June.
Bram: good shit.
Bram: not really the relationship type
Bram: we were never that serious anyways
Some of that wasn’t true. They were serious but even that was clouded by whatever facade Mim put up. Too much drama for him.
Bram: I’m trying to grab a drink you down?
The phone plopped back on his chest waiting for that yes.
@june-von-drake
The Dead Won’t Stay Filed | Brovu
Bram had a gut feeling. Which was something one should follow isn’t it? Your own intuition? It really had become a conflicted topic almost his entire life. Feeling a feeling so deep in his gut but having to turn his back on it really twisted up his mind. Yet he knew he needed to follow it.
“Yes.” He nodded. “I do. Sophia is interesting but something about her story just doesn’t make sense.”
Why would someone let alone a widow who passed along side her husband refuse to leave this world. A scandal perhaps but even that didn’t feel right.
“We can still keep her tabbed out but I feel like Layla is where we should start.” Bram squinted as he looked down at his notes. “I didn’t know the Lyons were basically town royalty. Now I’m curious where her grave site is.”
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
Kovu had a good idea.
After all, the Lyons mausoleum was a large, marble structure in the middle of the graveyard that most other graves radiated out from. The whole graveyard had once been owned by the Lyons, until they turned it over in the early 1700s for public use after the Cathedral was completed nearby in late 1600s.
It was a large, square structure. Kovu had seen pictures of it. Read up on many of the Lyons that were buried there. Not all of them, of course, but plenty. Including Mufasa Lyons. He wondered if his own father would be allowed a spot.
If Kovu had anything to say about it (which was the plan), he absolutely would.
Did Kovu want to tell Bram all of this? Not particularly. It would be too suspicious if he could just rattle off all that information from the top of his head.
"I dunno. Probably the Swynlake Cathedral graveyard? I'm sure that they have a map or something...if she is a prominent enough person, I'd bet her grave would be marked out."
@headless-bram
The Swynlake graveyard was like a damn second home. Shit the mausoleum has been the centerpiece of the whole site but he never once gave it a second glance. The Lyons were probably who owned that palace for the gone. The weaving paths through rows and rows of forgotten grave stones always seemed far more interesting.
Lost souls with no families visiting. A feeling he felt would follow him for the rest of his life. A cast out soul never accepted and never thought of.
“Oh I don’t need a map.” Bram said breaking his grain of thought. “I spend enough time there I have an idea where a family like this might lay.”
The eyeroll that followed wasn’t meant for the Lyons - only the thought of a family like that. This Layla was no doubt someone important who was only harassing him because even in the afterlife she needed someone to give her attention. The resentment was fueled by nothing but his own bitterness.
“You trying to go then?” Bram looked over to Kovu. “It won’t be dark for a bit so she shouldn’t bother us if we go now.”
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
