( reigne & theodore )
halfdivines:
his apology was all she needed to confirm her suspicion, the rest of his words fading into the background as she tried to understand the situation. all of a sudden, reigne felt extremely vulnerable in a way she’s never before. as if someone were inside her thoughts at all times, leaving her completely open and unsafe. snapping out of her thoughts for a moment, she took a step away from him and outside the little space they had occupied for a while. looking around the shop, she made sure it was empty before locking the front door, grateful that it had been closing time. she had built an image of herself upon coming onto the island and tears were something never to be associated with her. so as she turned around to face him once more, right hand curled into a fist as tears began to well up in her eyes, she took a breath before letting all her inquiries spill out, “why would you do that? why me?” the shaking of her head became more furious as more tears rolled down her cheeks, biting the inside of her cheeks as she grew the confidence to demand, “tell me what you saw.”
Seeing her reaction broke his heart. It was difficult to face her change of personality, going from bubbly, happy and unknowing to suddenly being engulfed in hurt. Theodore knew that this was the only logical reaction to what he had done. But, perhaps, the most disturbing part of this experience was the fact that he couldn’t reach out and comfort her - after all, he didn’t know her at all. He knew her dreams, her nightmares, her deepest fears and troubles, but he didn’t know anything else. To try to console her in this very moment would have been even more strange than having sneaked into her dreams. Thus, Theodore stood there, rather awkwardly, giving her the time to settle into her own feelings.
“I’m sorry.” He mumbled, looking down at his feet as he shifted his weight from one leg to another. Now, she was asking questions, and the male didn’t quite know how to form a coherent sentence. Should he tell the truth? Well, why stop now? “I’ve seen your nightmares. I...I have never seen so much pain. I’m so sorry that you had to go through all that. Every time I visited, I just wished that there would be something happy, something joyful. I never stayed long. I promise.”
