Coup De Foudre
Frightened by thunderstorms, you’re afraid they destroy something when the rain breaks out on blinds and wet concrete you can not help but cry the sound of lightning looks too much like your heart cracking and you know how painful it is when things break of course you know what is it to be broken you’ve loved someday since that time you’ve known how thunder feels like that it’s just as terrific as love at first sight the lightning crosses the night like a cutter blade the cuts are deep and the gloom streaks with scars in the rain that floods your thoughts you see that girl's face you’ve loved her for a long time just like you’ve loved many things that made you addicted you’ve loved too much and too fast nothing could handle such passion she destroyed you just like a thunderstorm would your heart hit by lightning oh that’s been heartbreaking when she left c’était le coup de foudre and still whatever the pain and whatever it will ever take days after days and years after years you’ve never been able to prevent yourself from loving because that’s how you’re made you love what’s powerful, what’s beautiful, disasters and it’s made you weird, crazy days after days and years after years you’ve become more afraid of people than thunderstorms because you know people are the most painful and since that day she left you’ve been looking for someone else someone that could handle the vibe you’re looking for someone that could break you just like thunderstorms, but that will decide not to do it. One night, teardrops knock your window, You heave yourself from lying in your bed, You let go your right hand from hanging onto that bottle of wine, Dazedly you wear those tiny flip-flops as you clutch the doorknob, You feel the cold wind as the door makes your way, And blissful wind turns your hair dancing, You step the grass and raise your head, Letting little raindrops feel the touch of your face, You put your arms wide open and unfurl your left hand, Something falls from it looks like the ever forbidden drug, You just close your eyes feeling the bliss as each drop makes you feel alive, Suddenly the rain stops, your world stops, You open your eyes and pause for a moment, Big raindrops now ascend, You close your eyes again letting each big drop hit your fragile face, The rain goes heavier and heavier, Your eyes get tired letting the tears roll down your cheeks. A Thunder! Another thunder! You stand still as your legs shake, You cannot move, A lightning flashes right before your eyes leaving you in shock, Knowing what comes next, you put your palms covering each side of your ears, And quickly, a powerful thunder rumbles like the sound of her voice saying "I have to let go", You remember her again, Those powerful lines of hers, They hit you like the lighting strikes you, It is so powerful that the sound of the thunder slowly becomes the sound of her voice, The voice that reminds you of pain and sadness, You are so scared now, The sound of the thunder, just exactly how remembering her voice scares and crushes your heart. You loved her at first sight, But got struck by lightning in the end, When words of letting go, made the thunders go wild, It was never easy to say, Because it was exactly "coup de foudre", When you love someone at first sight, But in return gets hit by the lightning of fright. Summer rainstorms, powerful thunderstorms, a girl dancing in the rain drugs, strong alcohols, people you’re dancing in the rain as well trying to ease up your demons surviving life and everything that has made you addicted and days after days and years after years you still can’t help yourself from loving even though people are more breakening than thunderstorms you’ve learnt to contemplate the beauty of broken things. Our longest poem so far. In special collaboration with: Thomas Pol. 09/12/19 Thanks for reading.
