` the problem with love stories
he reached out a hand to touch her forearm, gently coaxing her to turn around.
"i just need to know one thing," he started, waiting for her to turn around and face him.
the simplicity of his words managed to strike a nerve within her. she wasn't sure what or how or even why, but it was obvious by the slightest fact that he managed to send her over the edge with a plain sentence meant that there was something between them.
she was just too stubborn to admit to it.
despite them not only having dealt with a sparse amount of feelings, the idea that he had already anticipated her words caused an inference of how close they actually were to run through her mind. the two had achieved in breaking down each other's walls, leaving them bare and vulnerable to the other -- and that was something jessica had never intended to do from the beginning.
but over time, she was starting to rebuild those barriers: stronger, higher, and less capable of being penetrated. she had been hurt -- by him, as a matter of fact -- and dealing with subtle heartbreak never turned out well for anyone. being in the presence of him now threatened her reflecting process as she was slowly inching her way to completely drowning herself in everything that was him.
the brunette clenched her jaw, slightly flinching as his hand gently curled around her elbow. tingles traveled up her spine; an unknown sense of electricity coursing through her. she swallowed hard before hesitantly turning herself around, her eyes locking on his within a second.
her breath hitched as she analyzed of how minimal the distance was between the two. her lips parted to speak, but nothing happened to escape her.
with a nod of her head, she waited for him to speak -- mentally and emotionally preparing herself for the inevitable.
