“Okay, it’s right up ahead, the really big house with a huge outside bathtub.” Tae explained, scanning each house as they drove through the neighborhood.
“She’s the last one I saw, so after this we can find somewhere to lay low for a while until we can figure out what to do next.”
“Do you mean a pool?” Aerin asked from back seat as she looked for correct house given the information she was given by Tae.
Audrey wasn’t sure how she ended up driving two strangers halfway across the country but it honestly wasn’t the most insane thing she had done either. Her parents weren’t going to like it when they found out but hey, what they didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them, right? As far as they had to know, she was still in dorm preparing for next week’s midterms.
Tae was proving to be quite the odd one but she was mostly chalking that up to a lingering language barrier, ignoring how subtle his accent actually was. Ignorance was bliss, honestly, and she would much rather give him the benefit of the doubt.
Aerin was okay too. She was a lot less odd than Tae but everything right now was bound to be awkward either way.
“I think he does,” Audrey said, a smile creeping onto her lips. She pushes her glasses further up her nose as she looks for the place that matches his description. “Is it that one? It looks like they might have a pool back there.”
Quinn shivered as the light breeze rustled the hair on the back of her neck, head bent over the book propped up against her bent knees.
She’d been finding herself outside more and more now that she had a break from school. At least, that’s the reason that she gave to people when they expressed surprise at her sudden interest in something outside of her room or a lab. That’s the reason she keeps telling herself, even though the truth is burning in the back of her mind - it never stops burning.
It’s not unusual for her to distance herself from people, especially during the school year, but it is unusual for her to avoid even her family on her days off. But to Quinn, the less time she spends with them, the less chance of there being a sudden change in the weather.
Just the thought of that day back in the lab was enough to make her fingers tremble even now as she turned to the next page. Distantly, the sound of tires on asphalt reached her ears, but it wasn’t until the sound grew louder that it drew her eyes away. Squinting her eyes against the sunlight, she watched as a car began the trek down their driveway.
She only watched for a moment, though, before turning back to her book. It was probably just more of her parents’ friends. They were always having some gathering or another once the weather got warm enough.

Tae looked over to the mansion Audrey pointed out, his face brightening slightly in relief when he recognized it. “That’s the one.” He stated with a smile. “Nice, now we just need to let her know that if she doesn’t come with us, she’ll die, and we’ll have everyone.” He said, somehow both innocently and with a dark tone.
@secretswriitteninink @xxunknown-storiesxx
"Tae we shouldn't lead with the whole dying thing. It seems like a bad idea when trying to get someone to trust you." Aerin said looking up at the mansion.

Zaria says nothing in return. Instead, the simply blinks up at the man, processing her first bit of spoken language. She does not understand the common language the way she will instinctively know the language of the dragons one day. The words lack all meaning to her, but the surprised gaze that stares back at her does bring a little smile to her face.

Kàri switched the position he was holding Zaria "Okay I guess you have to come with me on patrol cause I can't just leave you here and I need to finish my patrol" he said to her in a soft voice

DRAGONS' CHILD; @animawolf2000
Tiny wings flutter between small, sharp shoulder blades, barely visible to him now that the fluid had drained and the light no longer traveled through the stone quite as well. When another chunk of the rock gals apart, a tiny hand is revealed - fingers tipped with long, albeit flimsy claws. A second foot follows and the rock shatters, chunks of it falling to reveal the little form in their midst.
The infant instantly falls over backwards, teal eyes staring up at the hovering figure before her. They seemed surprisingly human against the parts of her that obviously were not - the claws, a full set of teeny tiny razor sharp teeth, the orange scales that cap her shoulders and cradle her cheeks, spiraling down to her upper thighs. A pair of wings is pinned behind her back at odd angles from the fall and despite the stillness of her body, a thin scaled tail swishes softly through the sand beneath her.
When her eyes lock with his, she smiles but does not move, watching him with an expression too love struck for a random first meeting.
Kàri looked shocked at the infant in his arms. "Uhhhmm Hi...?" he said skeptically taking in the infants features and extra appendages.

The moment Kari's palm presses against the polished surface of the stone, the warmth emanating from it seems to steadily grow in intensity. The creature inside begins to move again, thrashing a tail around in what had to be some sort of viscous liquid, though that was only visible through the resistance slightly impeding her movements.
With each move, there's a tap that vibrates through the stone's surface, followed by a crack. They start as thin tendrils in the bottommost layer, visible only if the light hits it right, and then they turn into deep crevices. The liquid seeps from the cracks until finally, a chunk falls away, allowing it to saturate the stone below. Briefly, a tiny human foot falls through the crack before withdrawing, and the motions cease for a moment.
Kàri stood in shock at the rock he thought was a rock on to see a crack and a tiny humanoid foot before it went back inside the egg. "What the heck?" He muttered before looking around to make sure no-one was near by.

If one were to approach the stone, one would discover the strange qualities of the material. Despite the rough, craggy nature of the surrounding mountains, this stone is perfectly round and completely smooth. The seawater that sprays it during the high tide makes it especially slippery. But the strangest of all is the way the roots from the surrounding forests curl around it like a nest, holding it fast in its spot and if one were to look closely enough in just the right part of the day - sunset, when the sky was as orange as the egg, - one might even catch a shadow of movement, the subtle shape of a hand or foot, or even quick whip of a scaly tail.
Kàri noticed the strangely shaped wrong out of the corner of his and felt compelled to go to it.
As Kari approaches the stone, it seems to take on a faint glow that grows steadily brighter as he moves closer. The air suddenly grows warmer, the smell of the sea stronger, and the roots burst into blossom. There seems to be some sort of energy calling him forward, beckoning him to lay his hands on its surface. Inside, the shadow is more visible, wiggling and turning, shifting from dragon to human and back again.
Kàri's eyes widened as he saw the silhouette from inside the glowing rock as he moved to exam it apprehensively.
As he drew closer, the figure stilled, head turned either to him or away. The shadows did not make that clear, but there's a certain feeling of being watched by something more knowing than it should be.
Inside, an infant watches a blur of movement from outside the orange of its home. It doesn't know how long its been sleeping or how long it has been an infant for this is the first time it has opened its eyes, searching for the comforting presence of a parent. Only that can wake a baby dragon, only that can hatch one.
Kàri touched the egg as he examined the egg. It felt warm. It shocked him to see an egg out in the open.

DRAGONS' CHILD; @animawolf2000
Cyrisius was once known as the land of the dragons. Long before humanity had the means to slaughter them, the realm was ruled not by the kings of man but by the six Great Dragons, one for each element the creates were known to influence. They were benevolent rulers and the land flourished when cultivated with the power they held, but their fury was horrifying and unstoppable and growing ever greater. Mankind learned all too quickly to fear it and thought it took centuries yet to develop weapons powerful enough to shatter a dragon's scales, it was this that ultimately led to their downfall.
They have all been dead nearly two hundred years now, every last dragon wiped off the face of the earth. Except one. There are rumors in some parts of the kingdom that when the Great Dragons sensed their impending doom, they combined their power to create one last dragon egg. If the rumors are true and the prophecies hold any weight at all, she will either save us...or destroy us.
Of course, there are those who seek it out - either to harness its power or to destroy it before it destroys us - and there are those who choose not to believe it, preferring to remain sheltered in their ignorance. After all, the shell of a dragon's egg is impenetrable even against the weapons that killed its sire and it is said one will only hatch when it feels safe. By the time mankind meets the dragons' child, it may well be too late.
But these are just rumors. Little does mankind know about the truth of these stories, the prophecies, or the orange stone embedded in the earth where earth, sea, and mountain meet at the base of the northernmost peak where the snow falls year round.

Kàri was wandering the edge of the pack's territory. He was trying to focus on the patrol he was sent on, but a scent in the air kept distracting him from his task.
OUR DARKEST HOUR; @animawolf2000
You can't run forever.
Enya could have laughed. Did he know who he was talking to? A perfect weapon they had once called her, a prefect spy. She could run forever. She could run and she could hide better than anyone else in the world. And she could fight too, if it came to it.
She took a second, just a moment, as she stood on the roof and he stood below.
"I wouldn't be so sure of that," she teased. Fire burst to life in her palm, it's glow subtle in the bright afternoon light. "I am what they made me, after all."
With a flick of her wrist, the fire falls, erupting the discarded bags of trash all around him. Fire and smoke. She knew it weakened him. The heat sapped him of energy, licking at his skin with an increased fervor. The smoke filled his nose, covering her scent in the smell of melting plastic and food so old it produced fumes all its own.
She flashed a smile, and disappeared behind the rising plumes of smoke.
Kàri coughed As the smoke and horrendous smell surrounded him. He covered his face backing away and trying to clear the smoke with his other arm. Once Kàri was away from the dumpster he used his ice to stop the fire from progressing. Then jumped up the fire escape after her.
OUR DARKEST HOUR; @animawolf2000
Shit!
He had found her.
Their guard dog, they had called him, as they whispered their threats into her ears. Enya had never actually seen him in person. No matter how much she tried to resist, she had never been stupid enough to go so far as to earn him as her punishment, but she had heard the stories.
They said he was a killer like her, but where Enya had learned to kill humans, he had learned to kill her. Where she had learned to control fire, he had learned to create ice. Where she had learned to blend in with a crowd, he had learned to shift his form, becoming a wolf to hunt her down wherever she may run. He was her perfectly tailored opposite, the hunter bred to make their little killer mere prey.
Despite her usual confidence, she wasn't sure she could outrun him. Given what she had heard, fighting him off seemed near impossible as well.
Enya ducks into the nearest alley, and with a running leap jumps from the dumpster to the fire escape. Perhaps getting higher might shake him off her tail....
@animawolf2000
Kari turned the corner to see his target clambering up the fire escape to get away from him. He throws ice further up the fire escape to block her escape from him. “You can’t run forever” he snarled as he jumped onto the dumpster...
