Mission Anaconda by A.D. Starrling REVIEW
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I don’t think I know how to start this to be honest since I haven’t rated a book three stars in a while but here it goes.
I think this story has a lot of potential and the characters are very likeable.
The writing style was good and easy to read. The synopsis had me at the words; mission, action and romance. So, yes I was very eager to read it.
The setting was great and I hope the author deeply explores more when writing about exotic places in the future.
Unfortunately, it took a long while for me to get to connect with the main characters but that could be just me.
So, we follow a group of people that work on Division Eight and go off on a very dangerous mission, everything with this story is going smooth for me and the romance wasn’t too much but also it wasn’t nearly enough. Somewhere along their mission the leads lost their appeal to me and I got lost and lost interest on what was going on. My guess is because this is a short story and it felt rushed. I like Miles and Gaby and I so wish the author had given us more on them.
Another thing that disappointed me was, when I really started getting into the characters a finding that I liked them… well, the book ended and that made me really disappointed since I expected more.
I understand that this is a short story but it left me curious and with a lot of questions and I guess that’s good in a way… you know, when the author leaves you wanting for more.
In this case however, I am not sure if the author will go back into this and write more deeply about Gaby and Miles and possibly explore future missions and so I am a little disappointed yes but I think that if this was a full book with more time for the development of characters and unfolding of the story I am sure I’d be rating it five stars.
I hope the readers of this review know that this is only my opinion on this short story and what might not do it for me could actually work for other readers.
Again, I think the only reason that I’m rating this three stars really is because it’s a short story with not enough time for it to develop and grab the reader.
The Prince by Jennifer L. Armentrout – Review
The Prince is yet another amazing creation by our dear Jennifer.
I feel biased to review her books nowadays since I always have extremely positive things to say about her writing and always rate her books with five stars.
This novella is no different.
We follow our main character, Brighton through an epic beginning to a possible future trilogy… I hope.
Our character is a little older than our previous female lead, Ivy in the Wicked trilogy and that was a very creative move on Jennifer’s part. It was different and brought a fresh start to the world of New Orleans.
Brighton is a fresh, almost brand-new character even though we had seen her in the Wicked books. She changed a lot since we last saw her in the last book and turned out to be a rich, determined and strong character.
We follow her as she hunts her attackers, the same fae that killed the most important person in her life. Throughout the book as Brighton seeks revenge she gets to know the Prince of the summer court, Fabian’s brother from the Wicked trilogy and the more we see these two get to know each other, the more we can feel the development of something new that not Brighton nor the Prince have felt in a long time. As the romance and sexual tension develops between Brighton and the Prince, the story grows to become its own new story. Almost separate from the Wicked trilogy.
I loved how the Jennifer wrote such an amazing novella within the Wicked world and I am truly hoping that she plans on writing about Brighton and the Prince again… and no… not a little 200 page sequel. I am hoping it’s a new trilogy with at least 600 pages in each book. Yes, this Novella has the great potential of becoming it’s on thing and hope for no less than three books.
It brought tears to my eyes to see Tink again and to be able to reconnect with a story I read a few months ago.
I am trying to keep this spoiler free but if your have read The Prince please feel free to comment below and please add a spoiler warning if your comment contains spoilers.

Excerpt for The Prince
My entire body jerked at that comment, striking too close to home for comfort. “Let go of me.”
He held my gaze as he slowly lifted one finger after another, releasing my wrist. That bitter knot was back in my throat. The Prince had let go and his heavy lashes lowered, shielding his powerful gaze, but I swore I could still feel it. “My apologies,” he murmured. “That was uncalled for.”
A feather could’ve knocked me over right then. He was apologizing? The Prince? “Yeah, it was.” I swallowed hard, taking a step back from him.
“Even if it is true,” he added.
“Wow. Way to ruin an apology,” I muttered. “Not that you probably even know why you just apologized.”
“I do. It hurt you. Those words.”
“What? You can smell that, too?”
Those heavy lashes lifted, and the intensity of his gaze pierced me. Suddenly I thought back to the day I woke up in the hospital, to those eyes. “I can sense many things.”
Oh.
Oooh.
I had the distinct impression that he was talking about earlier, when I was thinking about the dream I had. And boy, didn’t that make me want to crawl up in a hole somewhere. At that moment, I made a mental note to legit not feel anything when I was around him or any other fae.
One eyebrow, several shades darker than his golden hair, lifted.
“Wait. Can you guys read minds?” I asked, voice hushed and thinking I didn’t know nearly as much about the fae as I thought I did.
“We don’t need to.”
Relief hit me, but it quickly faded when his words cycled back through my head. We don’t need to. Meaning picking up on our emotions probably gave them enough insight on what our thoughts were.
Nice.
“Well…” I held the folder closer to my chest. “That’s freaky.”
His lips twitched.
“And I need to go.” I started to turn once more, ordering myself not to run out of the lobby like it was on fire. But I stopped, facing him again. “I do care about these younglings. I will find them or I will find out what happened to them.”
The Prince inclined his head. A moment passed and then he nodded. Thinking this super awkward face to face was now, thankfully, over, I started to turn away again.
“Brighton?”
Desperately ignoring how the way he said my name made me think of stormy summer nights, I faced him, even though common sense screamed that I shouldn’t. I just couldn’t help myself. It wasn’t a compulsion. It was apparently really bad self-control. My wry gaze flickered over his face, and I bit back a sigh. He was the strongest, the deadliest of his kind, and that knowledge did nothing to dampen my appreciation of his masculine beauty.
“The red hair was a nice touch, but I prefer it this way.”
And then with those parting words, he turned and stalked off, leaving me standing there knowing one thing only.
The Prince knew it was me Saturday night.

Undone by Wendy Higgins - BOOK REVIEW
Five stars. Surprising? I think not.
This concluding chapter of my favourite dystopian trilogy was very impressive. I often envy how authors can create these clear imagines filled with action, fast paced scenes and emotion simply by putting words together on a computer or a piece of paper and I must say that this is an occasion such as.
In this book Wendy explored her characters to the extreme, mainly Remy, and I think the story flowed well from beginning to end.
I loved the pacing, but I was sad it was so short as we could have explored a lot more. Maybe that’s just me finding it hard to let go but I truly think that this world Wendy created has amazing potential for future books or perhaps novellas where we get to know our beloved characters a little more *coughs* Texas Harry *coughs again* Linette.
So, if you have read the previous books you know where we, the readers, were left to die at the end of Unrest.
If you remember, Amber had managed to escape with the others in one of the air planes they had. Ry had also escaped, as a pilot on another plane, pulling a stunt that had me almost dying of a heart attack. Unfortunately, Remy, Jacob and Linette were left behind because… These things happen during an alien invasion.
The story takes off from there and the number of gasps and tears and swoon moments were overwhelming for me throughout the book. The strategizing part of these people with military backgrounds coming together to save the world was awesome and it makes you look at humanity in real life with hopeful eyes.
I must admit that I missed the sarcasm of Texas Harry in this one. I know this book was darker, but I wanted to see more of him.
At the very beginning I was happy to learn I was reading dual point of view because I remember being excited at the end of Unrest with the multiple POV chapters. I think Wendy did it brilliantly and I couldn’t have asked for more. She wrote the characters uniquely in each chapter at the end of Unrest and she managed to do it again, this time with Amber and Remy as our eyes and ears.
*SPOILERS*
So, when Amber thought that her brother and Remy and Linette could be dead, she got sad and she felt like her world had fallen apart and that’s understandable. However, she then starts getting all loved up by Rylen and the possibility that her best friend and last blood relative might be dead is slowly brushed aside. I know that in the situation everyone was in, when she had no way of knowing for sure at the time, she just had to cope with the good she had left. Maybe I’m wrong, but it didn’t feel genuine for Amber to ignore such a huge change in her life.
This could also be her way of surviving and being strong, like a safety mechanism.
I loved Remy’s point of view and this character is so human and relatable.
She is wild and so innocent as well as naive and, she is one of my favourites. The creepiness of Senator Navis was cringe worthy but then Wendy wrote him in a way that even I started feeling something towards him. The interaction between Remy and Navis was filled with tension and Remy being conflicted and unsure of what was happening to her and her doubts on her feelings towards him and Tater felt organic.
Another character that left me impressed was Linette. That woman is a bad ass and even though I hated her in the previous book, I have to say that she won me over.
The danger Remy and Linette experienced during their stay at the base and how Tater became powerless was another overwhelming time in this book. They risked everything and could have died trying.
As for the ending…
I loved it but like I said above, there is so much room for more.
The action sequence of the last battle was so fast and energetic and suffocation in the best way. I know this is sci-fi, but it felt a little too easy to get rid of all the aliens and giant space ships. They had the technology and numbers on their side. The humans had technology, not as advanced, and hope. I am happy we won for sure, and this felt like a concrete conclusion to the story. Perhaps this could have been 2 books.
I had mentioned in my previous review that I thought Amber would be able to get pregnant and I was very happy to find that to be true.
These books are my favourites of this year.
I can’t wait to see what Wendy holds in store for our future readings but I sure hope its something as fresh and exciting as this was.
Excerpt from UNREST #2 by Wendy Higgins
Excerpt - Amber and Rylen
It took half a minute for Rylen to open the door. He was in boxers. That’s it. And it did nothing to slow my heart or breathing. I tore my eyes up from his waistline, over the pepper tattoo on his pec, and to his face. “Hey, Pep.” He shifted to the side. “You okay? Let me just…uh…” He glanced behind him and the absolute worst thought struck me. “Are you alone?” I whispered. “Yeah.” He cocked his head at the fear in my voice. “I’m just gonna grab some pants. Come on in.” Oh, thank God. I put my hand on the door but gave him a second to go inside. When I went in, he was stepping into track pants. I leaned against the wall, more nervous than I’d ever been, as he sat on the edge of the bed, legs wide, and gazed up at me. “What’s up?” he asked. He sounded tired. Say it. Say something. “I know it’s not my place to say this, but…I think you should be careful of Linette.” He grasped the back of his neck and stared at the floor. “Nothing is going on with us—” I know.” I rubbed my face. Every word I’d planned to say sprinted out of my mind and left me standing there completely empty headed. Awkward, expectant silence stretched between us. “I don’t think she understands or respects where you’re at, and what you need.” He looked at me then, with such suffering in his gaze, and asked, “Where am I, Pepper? What do I need?” The anguish there made me nearly slide to the floor. I closed my eyes against the wave of emotions and forced myself to speak. “I think you’re hurting and you need time.” His eyes dropped to the floor again, silent. Was I wrong? Was Linette right, that he needed her affections to help him heal? No, damn it! I could not stand the thought of her ever touching him again like she’d done tonight. I was going to comfort him my own damn self. I took shaky steps forward until I stood between his knees. I saw his shoulders hitch with an intake of air, but he didn’t raise his head. I moved forward until his forehead was pressing against my stomach. Then I slid my hands around the back of his head and held him there. Before I could be self-conscious or wonder if I was forcing affection on him, his arms went around my back and pulled me closer, his face pressing against my abdomen. I felt his warm breaths through the cotton of my shirt as we held one another in the most tender moment I’d ever experienced with him. I knew in the way he pressed into me, pulling me tighter, his fingers rubbing into my skin through the shirt, that this was exactly what he needed. I held him, and held him longer, and felt him, and though it might not have been sexual to him, it was the most sensual moment of my life. My entire body went taut and heated at the feel of his hands on my back. His face pressed to me. My hands in his hair.
Footsteps and voices coming up the hall shattered the delicate moment. I moved away from him at the sound of the door unlocking with a click. New York Josh was talking loudly about the Yankee’s baseball record; apparently Tater had tried to bust his balls. They both stopped and shut up when they saw us—Rylen still sitting on the edge of the bed, and me now standing a couple feet away. Josh hitched a thumb over his shoulder. “You need us to find another room?” “What?” Rylen said. “Man, shut the fuck up.”
“All right.” Josh winked at me. “My bad.” Tater looked between the two of us. “I was just leaving,” I said. “Good night.” I gave them an awkward wave and shot a glance at Rylen as I turned to leave. His elbows rested on his knees, watching me go, the heat of his gaze steaming me from the inside out.
